Underfloor heating slow to reach temp

It sounds normal to me. Underfloor heating is intended to be always on.

Yep, there's no quick boost on underfloor as the whole slab needs to heat up.

Is the system left running constantly or is it on a timer or manually turned off for portions of the day?

Thanks lads, the system is running all the time, controlled by room stats (temp only),I turn the whole system off from April to September each year.

Just to clarify then - so when you say "However it takes hours for the temp to rise in some of the rooms." - from what point does it take hours to rise from? Surely that implies that the stat is controlling each room and the heat is present, or did you turn down a room and then turn it back up again?

I def believe the stats are fine,I have some electrical background. All stats downstairs are set to 20degrees. Last Sunday for example, the living room stat dropped to 19,therefore it called for heat, everything came on as it should, however 5 hours later the stat still read 19degrees, everything on but no increase in temp, surely that can't be right???

Flow might be a little skimpy. You could try turning up the pump / using a constant pressure curve.

But you should be prepared for much slower response than radiators for example.

Pump is at setting 3,the highest setting. I'm at a loss,is it air in the system???is it a big job to vent it????how long should it take a room temp to climb one degree, surely 5 hrs is too long???at this rate I'll burn through a tank of oil in no length!!!

Pump could be on its way out. Is it the original pump from 2004?

Is the sitting room the largest circuit?

    No,it's a fairly new pump,installed 18mths ago.sitting room prob largest circuit I'd say alright

when all other zones are off and only the sitting room is calling, you noticing the same where it is 5 hours to move by a degree?

Unlikely to be air. You won’t be burning through oil, because the heat isn’t going anywhere.

It’s likely a flow problem, the system may need to be rebalanced, or at least the flow control valve opened a little on this particular circuit.

Are you sure that the stat is calling for heat after dropping 1⁰?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 218 ✭✭daludo

Yes,only the sitting room calling at that time

Lads, got sorted. Popped off d actuators heads and sprayed the pins with Wd40. Then gave them a few tugs with pipe grips to free them up a bit more. I reckon they were just sticking and not opening fully..
