Porsh and cordero are probably leaving at the end of the season freeing up 2 non Irish spots. Carty looks likely as wel freeing up a lot of money. What kind of non Irish is best to sign ? Someone like shl who can become Irish qualified or a actual proven international? What positions would be best to invest in ?

You’d probably be looking at 10 and the front row, but props are banned. Could potentially look at back three depth but think there’s enough Irish talent to get by there.

Actually my dream signing would be Shaun Stevenson.

Robbo, can you please, please put up a new title for this thread. The TOH or HOT is no longer. So let's move on. If we could have Graham Rowntree as a coach we would be so lucky. To me this season is a defining moment. Probably our best ever players with our worst ever coach.

So 'Connacht: The Pete Wilkins era' as a title sounds appropriate to me. Because the sooner it is over the better for all of us. And hopefully we won't need to use that title for long

What is up with Porch anyway? I know he was injured for a while but he I presume he's just completely out of favour at this stage as he hasn't been involved in ages. At least not regularly.

This year id prioritize retention. All 7 props, and joyce and Ben Murphy top of my list.

    Shopping, a lock, a hooker and a 15.

Maloney, lee Baron and no idea who for 15 but a senior pro not a young lad. Must be good under the high ball.

We have the option to extend Buckley and Dooley's contracts, Illo is the only other prop out of contract. Joyce could well be up for renewal, unless he signed for 3 years initially. I doubt Ben Murphy signed any less than a 2 year deal but could be wrong.

Not sure I thought he was gone before I was corrected. He would be better then cordero but I suppose management are looking to develop smith, jenning,Bolton. O'Connor is the best 15

Connacht will learn from the Irish game yesterday.Forde must stay 12, don't try and turn him into a 10. it doesn't work playing between 10 and 12. NZ and SA don't do it and it has hurt Crowleys game too. The Connacht 10 who was behind prendergast at u20 has been playing 15 because he isn't a great goal kicker but playing 15 won't hurt his playmaking. He can switch back to 10 easily. Look at carty, smith,Hanson, dmac styles of play compared to frawley, Crowley and Owen Farrell.

Now Jim, ye have your own issues to deal with. That said I do agree with you. Ioane is perfectly fine. Issues are in the pack. They slip off tackles, they look unsware. It's gobsmacking to watch the ineptitude while many say this is our best pack ever.

For example you have Prendergast who falls off tackles while you have Joe Joyce who goes full blast into tackles. Where is the darn intensity in this team. Your captain is supposed to lead and instead you just brush past him.

On other matters Denis really has to be retired. It's beyond a joke with him.

I know it's been discussed before on here, but during the Ireland game at the weekend I found myself wondering if we should give Mack at couple of chances at 10 for us - he essentially plays 10 for Ireland at times, and always looks dangerous.

I think Connacht have the front 5 from the U20s Irish 2021 team. That was the biggest front 5 Ireland had for a while. Probably 2 more years until them boys come into their prime. Murray, illo, lassi are all big men

Looks like Bryan Walsh may not be in the system any more then, considering there is no reserve lock and there are PTS squad members selected.

Can't for the life of me understand that, but obviously the academy coaches know a lot more than me and we have to trust the process.

I watched Corintians HP, and found the name of Bryan Walsh (5) in the match squads against MU Barnhall 9th november. Is he another Walsh? And there is no name ( for tommorow's match) of Max Flyn, Finn Treacy and Harry West. Are they all injury or premature?

Connacht v Munster could be on in Mayo

I think, I'd travel up to it for the novelty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 752 ✭✭✭CuriousCucumber

Absolute slap in the face to season ticket holders. Just like the Ulster game in the Aviva

We'll take your money for a season ticket, and then take away one of the biggest home games of the season

Yeah, and I bought my tickets for the Sportsground

I don't think you can reasonably compare this to the Ulster game in Lansdowne Road at all. That was literally the first post-lockdown fixture (of any code) without restrictions so the attraction of a larger stadium was quite obvious there for the public health concerns which still remained.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,393 ✭✭✭HBC08

I'm pretty sure you bought it for Connacht?

All the provinces have played games away from their principal home ground,Leinster and Munster do every season.

It's great to have the option of spreading the appeal of Connacht rugby and the use of big stadiums especially while the Sportsground is being redeveloped.

As many people as want to go to the game can now from both Connacht and Munster.Itll be a great novelty factor and could see 15k-20k at a home Connacht game.

Also there's a huge Mayo/roscommon/Sligo and Leitrim support for Connacht.Surely you can't begrudge some of them (in this case people in Castlebar and surrounds) not having to travel for once?

Seems a very bitter and shortsighted viewpoint to have.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 752 ✭✭✭CuriousCucumber

Refund me for the game not held in Galway, and that's fine

Highlight this before selling the season ticket, and it's fine

Connacht vs Munster is generally the busiest game of the year. Its a selling point for some season ticket holders, and that is been moved 74km away.

It's a money making exercise, absolutely nothing more

Munster sell different types of season tickets. One for Thomand only, one for Cork only, and one that includes both

Leinster generally share games between the RDS and the Aviva. 1km or a 14min walk away. Even this year, Croke Park is only 4km from the Aviva

I think all this is valid, I like the idea that the game might be held in McHale Park but I can understand any frustration a Connacht fan might have in it being moved after season ticket sales has taken place.

I can also see a huge attraction to it from a Connacht Rugby POV, grow the game in the province and probably increase their income from the game with increased ticket sales.

Of course it's a money making exercise. The Sportsgrounds capacity is way under due to the renovations, why wouldn't you be happy to see them fill the coffers? Why are you so mad?
