Air-to-water heat pumps for existing home

Has anyone any experience with installing an air-to-water heat pump in an existing home? I am thinking of removing my current gas boiler which heats my home and supplies hot water to my taps.

I've done some research but a lot of it goes over my head as I've no experience of plumbing or electrical work. My gas boiler is currently in a dedicated timber structure and I am thinking of removing it entirely and putting the heat pump in its place. I'm aware that air flow is required so I was going to fully louvre the front door where the fan will be facing.

The space is a bit tight in there so I was thinking that the Panasonic All-in-one unit would be a good fit. I would be worried about sound levels as it is very close to my living room window. Unfortunately there's nowhere else I can put it as I can't mount it externally for various reasons (trust me!).

I will do a lot more research of course, but I just wanted to check that I'm barking up the right tree and that I'm not wasting my time pursuing this option. Thanks.

Dont have links handy but will grab them later.

But checkout on YouTube channels, heat geek, urban plumbers, Glyn hydson (self installs, from open energy monitor)

Is your gas a combi boiler?

As for cost. That's another story. Really depends on your house, heat loss, reaching the requirements for grants etc

Thanks for the channels. I must check them out when I'm back home.

I have a standard boiler, not combi. What impact would that have?

My home is relatively small (<80m2). It's part of an apartment development and some rooms don't need to be heated at all during the winter which is a great plus. It was also built within the window of time when the grants are eligible (I think), but I haven't delved into that too much yet. Wanted to make sure it was feasible first!

Standard boiler is more straightforward as you still have a traditional hot water tank.

Worth a look to them channels, there is quite a lot of information out there.

As mentioned above, check out the Heat Geek channel on YouTube but specifically their consumer series.

I've watched a few of their videos, but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for unfortunately. Thought there might be something specifically on installing in apartments and replacing a gas boiler system. Might be there somewhere but hard to search on YouTube I find!
