Election canvassing

So election canvassing has began in earnest. 3 callers already. But late yesterday afternoon was eating in a restaurant with the family and a candidate and a couple of his canvassers came in and started going around the tables. When the came to our table I politely said sorry we are having dinner as a family. They then went to give me their literature and I declined saying not now. They looked at me like I had two heads. I was quite annoyed that they felt they could interrupt a family meal to canvass. Other half was livid. They would have lost two votes only for it was actually the neighbouring constituency.

What are peoples opinions on election canvassers interrupting people when engaged in another activity? In my view it’s bad form. On the street or at an entrance ok as long as you have the option to walk by if your choose. But attempting to do it while you are in essence trapped is not on.
