Bars weren't busy,at least compared to previous ireland new zealand games. tbh I was expecting it to be far busier (I was working in stadium running a bar for fontext)

Crowley was fine, nailed his kicks, made his tackles, had a single knock on but we were actually ahead when he went off. You know who was not fine? Frawley! Lost the game almost on his own. 0 out of 10 (Are negative scores allowed? They should be when a player is so bad he actually ends up helping the other team win).

Janky game by all involved, but capable of much better. Without the handling errors, we win this game with a few tries on the board.

Dunno how much the Friday night kick-off had to do with that. Definitely not the norm.

It was carnage outside stadium, we went into the stadiun to get away from it

Bars in stadium quiet but then they had the little cans at 7 euro and people just bought them a lot of time instead of queueing

I also thought some of the players were very poor but Farrell and his management team must take the majority of the blame for last night.
The 23 players selected and the tactics were just not right.

the lineout has been a problem for a while now and last night that problem was magnified- it was brutal last night where we i think we took just one of our own at the tail and did not contest the nz lineouts.
this has to be fixed and to do this oconnell likely has to go.

Why did we not kick more last night, when it was obvious we were struggling to play with the ball why not kick more and try and play more in the NZ half.

Where was Casey and Baird , the Connacht Pendergast, Calvin Nash, why was Osborne not starting, Why not start O’Toole and put porter at tight head.
these are the games to experiment.

last night was a terrible performance and come 6 nations unless Farrell tells easterby to go with youth we will find come 2026 and 2027 Irish rugby really struggling to change.

Is the pipeline of project players drying up? Quite a few foreign born players in the line and a lot plus 30 - does Ireland have the development pool to replace them?

I actually thought we tried to kick more than usual last night, thru both Crowley and JGP (and Frawley when he came on).

And I thought Crowley kicked reasonably well from hand. He had one early that went a good bit too long, but the others were all good and contestable; depending on position some landed plum just outside the 22.

Contrast it what the atmosphere at a Leinster game. Was in at the Lions match a few weeks back and with only 20k fans it was a much more enjoyable experience.

id say the new rules around project players is going to affect Ireland . We started last night with 5 project players in the starting lineup Bealham(33), JPG(32), Lowe(32), Aki(34), Hansen(26).

They have all been fantastic additions for their provinces and ireland, but realistically is that the end of it with the 5 yr (?) residency in place ?

The celebrating of certain moments in rugby is becoming a real annoyance in the game...it needs to be stamped out...Rugby is about respecting the referee, the opposition etc..... treat it like backchat to a ref....a quick penalty and it will disappear overnight....

This shìt of the over the top fist pumping, and howlering after a knock on has gone too far....i think it started with Saracens and their Wolfpack bollèx...now it has seeped in everywhere...the James Lowe celebrating his kick was a particular Lowe point....

Celebrate a try or winning the game...

....a pat on the back is enough for everything else...

Bealham and hansen were never project players and qualified for ireland from birth due to parents/grand parents. there will likely be less projects but it's not an issue

Very poor and flat performance. Think it was evident too many of our players had too little game time this season because we looked incredibly rusty and lacking sharpness.

Very cagey game overall with a lot of poor quality contestable kicks from both sides.

Ireland’s attack looked as dull as I’ve seen it in a long time, which is concerning given it’s the first game of the post Mike Catt era.

As poor as we were, we could have won it. Pivotal moment for me was when we were attacking in their 22 (or just outside possibly) around the 45 min mark, just after we’d scored the try to go in front. James Lowe gave away a sloppy penalty for a head/neck contact in a clear out, and we let them off the hook. Our tails were up at that time and they were still missing Jordie, and think even if we came away from that sequence with just 3 we’d have possibly hung on.

All Blacks were good value for their win though. Young forwards like Tamaiti Williams, Wallace Sititi and Tupou Va’i all were superb IMO, DMack was controlled and composed and I thought the introduction of Roigard and his excellent kicking game helped them see it out.

Only really Josh & JGP emerged with any real credit on the Irish side IMO. Crowley was poor and Frawley was a lot worse. As i mentioned during the week, we got the bench selection badly wrong and got negative impact there.

For some added context - last night’s loss was the first time we’ve lost a November international in the Aviva in 8 years.

The All Blacks notorious game 2 weeks after Chicago was our last loss in a November game in Dublin.

My goodness. Tetchy aren't you. 'Your player'? Odd phrase. Surely there all Ireland players?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,398 ✭✭✭FtD v2

    This is antiquated nonsense.

There was nothing particularly excessive about his celebration, and it was a great piece of skill. He’s not gloating or trying to wind up the opposition, he’s just fired up and giving energy to his teammates.

We have almost no players who bring energy to the game - the likes of Ringrose, VDF etc are great players but almost perfectly fit the posh rugby robots archetype. James Lowe is one of a handful of players who bring a bit of buzz, especially at a time when we were still in the game and the amount of bleating about it on here is laughable.

Playing to the crowd when you're 10 points down is mad wouldn't mind if they were winning

Does anyone know what stations England game is on today?

Lots of the usual anti-irish bile over on the BBC sport website, they seem to have big issues with us being ranked no 1 and also seem to believe we're arrogant (pot- kettle)!!!

Any idea how long O'Connell has left on his contract?

For the immediate period yes but building for a future when your kicker is over 35 no IMO

I've nothing to be tetchy about, I haven't named a player and said the team should be built around him and followed that up that even if that player has a stinker that we persist with him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 134 ✭✭jim Dempsey

Sky NZ said it was his 3rd start. What was it's then his 4th?

I said since 2016 furlong has been getting flogged. Used Italy as an example because bealham has only started 3/4 games.

Impressive covering up for the coaching team trying to twist my words into something I didn't say.

Nearly 7000 posts that's an impressive life you live

Bealham has started 10 games for Ireland out of his 45 caps.

Ireland seemed to stick to rigid pre planned everything last night. The restarts were all the same, we got traction from one, all the rest were comfortable clearances finding touch around half way for the all Blacks. With the way our line out was functioning that was a net gain for the All Blacks. We played a good few moves for Aki to attack their out half channel, again, one worked, the rest didn't. A few times we tried to move the ball in the first half it was extremely flat to the line and broke down immediately. Crowley also kicked contestables to either wing from open play, none of which worked. Actually as a measure if a team is on it's game or not, getting up to and actually contesting up and unders is a good measure, one which we failed on last night.

When POM is not on the field the line out seems incapable of sorting itself out, thinking on their feet, you wonder is it the similar in general play without Sexton? Had he the personality and the freedom from management to shake it up when it wasn't working.

Last night we were poor in every facet of play, the lineout was probably the most unforgivable, as in the most predictable area that teams would spend their time working on.
