Better team won on the day. Knockbride really struggled with a well-organised blanket, and couldn't get shots off easily and then were picked off on the break. That said, I would say Knockbride had more efforts in the first half but not the lads you would want to be taking scores on. One point from a free in the first half (and one missed) given that they dominated possession said it all.

Put up a good fight in the second half but it was about 13 minutes in before they scored from play. Missed a lot of chances and the crucial one was the one on one that would have brought the game back to two points, and within minutes Craigbane got a goal. From then on, it was game over even if Knockbride battled on.

Ref wasn't great at all but that wasn't the winning or losing of it.

Knockbride had a great chance to show their credentials in Ulster and to put an end to all doubts about their ability.

Same questions hang over this team even despite winning junior this year.

Junior next year will more level of a system. Most of the teams are Division 3 bar Belturbet and Redhills. Redhills will struggle in Division 2.

I see 19 million in funding towards Breffni has been announced. Great news and hopefully that will now allow the incoming CB that is appointed to spend some money improving what’s on the pitch.

19 million for the Centre of Excellence is excessive compared to other Counties but other Sports included too. How much will the new Stand cost?

It's not the centre of excellence, more so the whole new sports campus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,349 ✭✭✭rrs

Yeah i said other Sports part of it. Its a joint agreement with the Co Council. Soccer pitches, cricket grounds

The new stand will be seperate . Kildare have a new stand done at 17 million with a 3k capacity. The new stand at breffni to hold 6k

Credit where credit is due, that is a huge achievement and I know there's been massive work going on to get that funding over the line. County boards are usually critiqued for everything they do or don't do, but at the same time that funding (second highest amount after Dalymount Park rennovation fund) is massive and will have a long term impact on the sports in Cavan.

I know it is not solely Cavan GAA leading this process but there was years of work put into this and the county board should rightly get praise for that vision to have Breffni at the centre of Sports Campus in county Cavan. Well done.

I know it is not an either / or (focus on capital investment or focus on player development at all stages) but clubs need to step up and create demand for a coaching strategy and put in targets for games development or we are going to have all the facilities and no players.

hopefully, was there a job going a while back funded by kingspan of someone over the development squads? Was this filled ?

There's a crowd in Dublin do bicycle stands and security sheds. If they use them it'll take the full 19 million and more along with it.

Yeah it was initially the Polo Grounds centre of excellence. Then with the Royal School and Council combining they had a good chance of funding as it was covering a lot of areas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,363 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Last I heard the position was no longer being filled. Individuals went to interview I do know but, and this part is hearsay, there was allegedly an argument between two power holders over who should get the job and in the end it was scrapped.

Colin Kelly the ex Louth and Wicklow manager, appointed manager of Kingscourt .Any other news on managerial changes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭baconsarnie

Ballyhaise are looking for a new manager. I wonder / assume Killygarry have gone after Keaney.

Murphy is back for Donegal. they're already planning for the new rules, he could make hay for them. Sure we could see some role for GMac as a forward, staying up and claiming marks, and also trying any 2 pointers? Get him back in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,349 ✭✭✭rrs

Paul Conroy is older then McKiernan and is footballer of the year. If he is willing to commit they should him bring him back. The new rules would suit him.

Any thing happening for Gowna yet, has Fintan Reilly left along with McCabe.

The new rules won’t be ratified until November 30th. It’s a bit early to be planning based on them. The 2 pointer is one rule that may fail to pass as it looks like a goal will be staying at 3 points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,349 ✭✭✭rrs

The 4 pts for a goal has already been ruled out, it wont be one of the rule changes going forward at Congress. A few will likely get the go ahead, like the 3 inside.

Donegal were bringing Murphy everywhere when he was playing, these rules will suit him. He was one of the people on the committee.

Anyone hearing that a prominent Virginia business have pulled all funding from the county board after the County Final went ahead?

    • 1. Lisnaskea (Fermanagh) vs Magheracloone (Monaghan) (Saturday, November 9, Brewster Park, 2pm)

    2. Drumgrath (Down) vs Arva (Cavan) (Saturday, November 9, Páirc Esler, 4pm)

    3. Ballinderry (Derry) vs Carrickcruppen (Armagh) (Sunday, November 10, Celtic Park, 1.15pm)

    4. Ballymena (Antrim) vs Derrylaughan (Tyrone) (Saturday, November 9, Cargin, 2pm)

I'd fancy Arva to beat Drumgrath. They would play the winners of Lisnaskea or Maghercloone in the Semis. Ballinderry strong in the lower half with Gareth McKinless and a few ex Derry players like Ryan Bell.

    Semi-finals

    Weekend of November 23/24: 1 vs 2 & 3 vs 4

    Final

    Weekend of December 7/8

Hopefully both teams do well in their Ulster endeavours this year.

I must also say what a run the Lurgan Ladies have been on. Hopefully they can get the Ulster Title.

Some effort by Crosserlough today, absolute disgrace of a performance by Barry Cassidy though, rode Crosserlough as bad as he did Cavan in 2020. Sickening way for them to go out. Didn't see the Arva game but they roll on, great to see some Cavan representation in next round.

How he is allowed near Cavan football is a mystery. He was also referee when Castlerahan played Corduff and failed to award an obvious penalty at end to Castlerahan and penalise Corduff winning point for a charging offence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,363 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Unfortunate but true. You can’t afford to play the game for 50% of it down a man against a team like Kilcoo. Those who should have been leaders of the team needed more composure at the end.

Fantastic atmosphere down in Newry on what was a horrible evening. Great to see so many people from other clubs in Cavan down to support.

The Lough cement their position as the number 1 club in Cavan making numerous finals across football, Ladies football & camogie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,736 ✭✭✭celt262

He hasn't a clue James Smith wasn't booked before his yellow at the end so shouldn't have got a red.

As king said lack off composure at the end cost them. I would have liked to see James Smith further out the field he was wasted at full forward.

Lough goalkeeper was man of the match very composed on the ball and kicked a great point.

He is a poor enough . But it's easy to just blame the ref. Castlerahan only scored 1-5 against a limited Corduff team. They were well beaten in the Ulster final.

Crosserlough had chances to get something from the game but lacked composure when it mattered .
