It only compounded the belief that was already there that she had nothing new to bring to the table other than the “Biden” package

    This.

The die was cast after he endorsed her. Everything is word salads after that. Misogyny, race. You name it.

So the federal government should have ignored blatant criminal activity because he’s Trump? They can’t do that. He started a riot to overthrow the results of an election that he lost and people died. He left them no choice but to go after him.

I agree with much of this. Biden is probably going to go down as one of the most consequential one term Presidents in US history. His administration's success in COVID recovery, inflation management, economic success and the Chips act were all excellent. It's also noteworthy IMO that there was a bi-partisan border deal agreed that but for Trump, would have passed.

Trump nixing that? Is probably the pivotal moment of the GOP pushing on.

He seems to have felt he was owed his 2nd term rather than assessing his health objectively, he believed he could power on and that mistake left the Dems with a very quick decision to make and TBF? It's precisely what a VP pick is for.

The US has chosen, and it has done so fairly emphatically with not even the popular vote argument left to those who'd oppose the GOP agenda for at least the next 2 years.

It is a damning indictment that the coalition Biden built in 2020 to deliver 81 million votes? Has collapsed by 15 million votes, even Trump's vote lost 3 million versus 2020.

I won't complain that Trump lost votes, he won the election. People knew exactly what they were voting for and the chips will fall where they may.

The Dems squandered trust, lost votes and somehow in a race against a man with Trump's flaws? Lost the argument.

Yes, but was Biden.... suggested to say "Go Harris"?

Whatever system they might have chosen (hire private polling agencies to survey voters?), the rapidity and unanimity of the selection seemed to preclude even the appearance of any form of consideration of other options before going with the person who bombed out of the primaries last time around.

They were in a bad position to begin with because of the timeline, but they seem to have gone with one of the worse possible options to get out of it. Concerns that Harris was selected without due consideration of alternatives did not start this week, it started months ago.

The answer on the view to what she would have done differently to Biden was a self inflicted wound. Could have put some sunlight between herself and her boss. There's fulfilling a role and there's super-gluing yourself to an unpopular incumbent.

Time for her to move on.

The Pelosi, Obama, Clinton run of the Democratic party is over. Time for new leadership.

As usual from the Jihadi Lefty Looney Media, you are deflecting from the subject. The man who Democrats called a Fascist and his supporters, garbage Nazis absolutely destroyed Kamala. The is real democracy

My favourite Harris moment was when the crowd was chanting her name, and then she stupidly said ‘Now chant your own names’, and the crowd all just went silent like WTF 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I appreciate she needed to “bring others” with her considering her late start- but she was rabbit in the headlights when asked what else or what she’d do differently to the stall that was pre-laid out for her - that particular interview resonated with me and I think it did with a lot of people- that and her inability to just speak simply and clearly- but that was a key criticism of her before she became nominee - while it was “managed” to a degree in terms of what interviews she did, her rally’s proved her inability to “keep it simple” - it’s a skill she never mastered

It’s all fine for us over here - we don’t have to live with either person as our leader - Americans have the right to ask whatever questions they wish and have a right to criticise both candidates .

People forget that it’s not as simple for Americans as “choose right or wrong”- “right and wrong” are loaded terms- it’s a fallacy to say “the choice was simple” - it wasn’t for Americans - these two people are on opposing sides and there’s miles of sea between them in terms of policy and outlook and what’s held as important.

Just because Trump had a long list of documented personal failings didn’t mean 70 million + people were going to automatically cross the divide and vote for Harris -completely naive of people to even suggest that - Harris still had to prove to 70 million + people that she had what it took to be president - she didn’t achieve that- Donald did-it’s as simple as that .

Has anyone seen the videos of people having absolute meltdowns and filming themselves crying and screaming? Filming their young kids similar reactions to being told Trump won? Its not normal. They literally think they will be rounded up and killed. Its a sorry situation where so many people actually belive this crap to the point that they are having mental breakdowns. Talk about 'fake news'. social media and certain celebrities like Rachel Maddow and others have a hell of a lot to answer for peddling this nonsense.

Bernie Sanders would have mopped up this election but certain interests don't want that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,245 ✭✭✭Yvonne007

They're just looking for attention and to be the next viral virtue signaller.

    It's really pathetic.

I did read a comment earlier on that the power that be in the DNC would find a Trump presidency preferable to a Sanders one because it’s a less radical change for them, which, if true, is damning.

He’s too old now which is a shame, I would imagine he would have wiped the floor with Trump. Sanders is all about putting money back into the hands of average Americans, and unlike Trump, he would try and do something about it.

Another one is warning women to delete their period tracking apps because the government is going to literally track the cycles of every woman in America and bust down your door if you might be pregnant to take you to the forced birthing camps. Absolutely nuts stuff and the new version of the fema camps/qanon shite. Who thinks that the US government is that efficient anyway?

It would be pathetic if it wasn't actually dangerous and going to lead to vulnerable people killing themselves rather than be 'rounded up'

It was actually Ted Cruz more recently that has pushed the idea into the mainstream, although it has been around a long time.

It sounds great until you actually look at the detail.

Not many people do declare their tips and if they do it's because they get something back like a child credit or some other tax credit they can apply against something else.

Part time workers wouldn't reach the threshold tax anyway.

Also again like most ill thought out populous ideas there will always be unintended consequences.

You'll have a lot more business introducing tipping.

You hire me as carpenter to build you a stairs, the cost is 5K which I pay tax on, or 3k with 1700 dollar tip. IRS just got shafted.

Also base wages could reduce as well as the amount in tipping as people now believe you are better off.

It's also quite unfair to other low income workers who are not tipped based.

If they did actually want to make a difference to these peoples lives then just increase the tax thresholds, much fairer to all.

Or if they wanted to be more targeted, reduce the cost of education and subsidise child care more, etc.

All that information on the pros and cons of introducing all sorts of measures is freely available, the problem is the target audience will react more to a 4 word slogan.

That's the world we live in now and some ways always have.

What happened to the White Dudes for Kamala 'movement' ?

Seems like all the white men and coloured men and women voted for Trump 🤣🤣

He did so well with everything against him, even the supposedly left wing media barely gave him or mention of him an hour of air time over the course of like 6 months.

Essentially campaigning, i.e not actually campaigning because it undermines the current president but getting out there in front of the media all the time and getting people to know her.She seemed to want to hide away for most of her time as VP.

Sanders supporters say this all the time yet he performed poorly in 2020 primary.

If you think Sanders would have won you must think AOC is a good candidate for 2028? Its funny she is closest to Trump that the Dems have. A populist who is an exceptional social media influencer and like Trump an expert at framing herself as the victim.

Maybe like 1992 the Dems need to stop looking for the perfect centrist candidate who will 'bring everyone together' and fight fire with fire and beat Republicans at their own game.

The primary role of a VP is to be primary advisor to the President.

The idea that she could have pulled off some covert role with an eye on running for a job that wasn't available in full view of the media is remedial at best.

Sorry social media influences don't win elections.

If the Democrats can identify a charismatic person in their ranks who can communicate good ideas effectively, they have a good shot in 2028. They’ll be at an advantage then because Trump will be the incumbent. I really hope this is the case anyway. And I have no issue with them running a man, if running a woman dissuades even 5% of voters in swing states. Who cares what sex the politician is, as long as they are a winner!

They need to be laser-focused from this moment onwards about how to win in 2028. They clearly weren’t this time, as changing candidates with 3 months to go makes them look like the incompetent goons that they are. Being so tied to elite old school Dems and corporate donors is killing them though. Nancy Pelosi is worth $240m and they wonder why they can’t get through to the person in Wisconsin living week to week?

I am angry and frustrated that this metric does not also apply to Donald Trump the billionaire. But it just doesn’t. I think the Democratic Party is seen as a crowd of hypocrites regarding money, and when they look at the Republicans, people think “well, at least they’re upfront about who they are.”

This election will be dissected for decades though. I still think people need to have personal responsibility for their vote. I understand not voting for Harris, but Trump? Electing a man who doesn’t have any regard for the democracy they claim to love is still very disturbing to me.

Unfortunately it is America and things are not that simple.

The outstanding candidate that fits your criteria is Buttigieg.

Probably more chance Bernie would win a general election in 2028.

I urge anyone who hasn't heard Buttigieg speak to give him a search on Youtube, he really is a breath of fresh air.

when all the votes are counted it’s going to be 51-49 with electoral college numbers within a handful of 2020. How is that a landslide?

The landslide perception is because the result was known very early and not because of the actual gap. And the fact that it seems different is down to the way postal votes were handled last time

The in-fighting I predicted would happen if Trump won has already begun.

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/politics/2024/11/07/donald-trump-kamala-harris-us-election-live-updates/

Members of Donald Trump’s team started turning on each other at the election victory party and became embroiled in x-rated arguments, it can be revealed.

One of Mr Trump’s campaign managers reportedly told a senior adviser he was going to “f---ing destroy” him at a victory party on Tuesday night.

Chris LaCivita repeatedly swore at Corey Lewandowki following a damaging leak to the media about him apparently profiting from the campaign, according to Politico.

When Mr Lewandowski approached Mr LaCivita on Tuesday night, extending a hand and offering his congratulations, he is said to have responded: “F--- you, f--- you and f--- you.”

Mr LaCivita continued: “You have f-----d with the wrong person. I’m going to f---ing destroy you.”

Not the hardest prediction to make though given how fractured Republicans have been over the past few years, multiple speakerships, etc. but interesting nonetheless. Elect clowns, expect a circus.
