It's one the zanier theories. That the young Trump arrange the podcast circuit to boost papa's youth appeal.

No mention of Biden in the Harris speech, must be a big rift,no doubt old joe will be one of the scapegoats blamed for the loss.

Sure some will of his old guard will contend that if Joe from Scranton had stayed in the race, it would have been closer.

Sure we will get a fascinating book or three twelve months down the line.

There was a brief "thank you" at the start of her speech but that was it.

Would you mind explaining your thought process behind this question/insinuation? I don't understand it.

Because the poster was clearly making the point that Trump, as a losing presidential candidate, clearly wasn't 'forgotten'

I can't find a transcript of her speech, so I've transcribed this section myself.

Harris: "Where the women of America have the freedom to make decisions about their own body, and not have their government telling them what to do."

    Not even 30 seconds later.

"And America we will never give up the fight for our democracy, for the rule of law, and equal justice. And for the sacred idea that every one of us, no matter who we are, or where we start out, has certain fundamental rights and freedoms that must be respected and upheld." 🤔 👶 🤔 👶 🤔 👶

Except that's not true, is it? I doubt Harris wrote this speech, certainly not alone, she probably had a team of writers. I wonder did the person who put this in, know exactly what they were doing.

I wonder how much of Biden still thinks he could have won it.

You are in dangerous territory, fixated on Bob Dole and Barron Trump.

What riles me (as someone who very much wanted to see Trump lose) is how so many people put 'the economy' on Biden and the Democrats didn't manage to inform them that the post-Covid inflation was very much market lead and happened world wide. If anything Biden's Covid recovery act served to help the US out of that better than other places, but still people weren't made to see it that way.

Democrats, after they got over their initial 'travel bans are racist' early on in Covid, got fully behind and demanded rolling punitive lockdowns and wanted ever more helicopter money thrown at a sleeping economy. This massive and artificial supply of cash in the economy is a perfect storm for inflation to creep in - but hold on to your hat, if you think that was the worst of the Democrats actions, worse is to follow - keep reading.

Democrats supported and implemented sanctions on Russian oil imports while simultaneously closing down American gas, oil, nuclear and coal energy production - the result of which has been ever surging energy prices. In America, just like Ireland - everything moves on the back of a truck. This drives up production and distribution prices rapidly which results in super inflated shelf prices, even for basics.

Democrats pushed through 'green new deal' initiatives which mostly are based upon immature technologies and these are failing to put any necessary dent in the costs to businesses and households alike. Democrats also encouraged more migration into the US which drives up property prices, puts pressure on services and increases demand for basics further.

In fact there are alot of similarities and parallels to all of the above here in the EU. There now is evidence of a massive pushback to all this from ordinary US citizens who are sick and tired of the low-purchasing power of their hard earned cash. Hence, Trump with a borderline landslide victory.

TLDR Trump winning is a measure of the completely disastrous Biden-Harris policies from 2021-2024.

I mean, the idea that the President could step in and influence what was happening in the market as it did, should be alien to Conservative ideals where they supposedly want less and less government intervention. But still, Biden got the blame and Harris probably suffered as a consequence.

The idea that Biden-Harris could have stopped pouring petrol on the fire they started might have helped. So, in summary - government policies intervened in the market from different angles and got turfed out last night as a result. They have nobody to blame but themselves.

Shep the dog with a MAGA hat would have won last night.

"Jonathan Pie"'s rant this time isn't as good as the one eight years ago, but it's not wrong.

Holy overreaction Batman! There will be no secessions, no civil war. That's a pearl clutching nonsense. Something like 100 million Americans didn't even bother to vote and you really think a civil war is in the offing?

But of course no doubt I'm "right-wing" for saying that(among other heresies), even though I consider Trump a cheap and nasty petty little grifter who grifted the ultimate grift. I've long considered(to paraphrase a quote about the English) America to be a nation of salesmen. It has served them bloody well too, for the most part. But it means because they love a salesman it leaves them wide open to mountebanks and grifters, so here we are.

But, the US "left" are complicit in this result. An election is as much, if not more a judgement call on the incumbent. If Biden was ten years younger Trump would have been screwed. Hell, Bernie Sanders who's a 1000 years old would wipe the floor with him(I'm so pissed off he was never president, or got the chance), but he isn't and that's been sadly obvious for too long. Then fielding so late in the game a lacklustre candidate so bland she could pass muster as landlord grade© magnolia paint, who was in large part picked because they thought she'd tick boxes in focus groups and sat in the background doing sweet fanny adams for four years…. Well that wasn't great. Demonising the Trump supporters didn't help either. And yes they were held to different standards and Trumpism was given a free rein for muppetry, but you don't fight on that level if you've any brains. "Hey, you're clearly a moron if you don't vote for me". Even actual morons will baulk at that.

You should actually find some solace in the fact that it wasn't a total landslide with such an cardboard candidate and weak campaign.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Marian is ok , nothing exceptional but she's not nasty or in anyway spiteful, Cal Thomas is a hack of the highest order who never has anything remotely interesting to say

If he thinks it at all he’s crazy.

Harris ran as good a campaign as you could expect in 100 days but was still heavily criticised for the state of the economy and high prices as well as the Middle East. Biden would have had all that baggage as well as the concerns about his age and would have lost as heavily imo.

It’s easy to say now, but him deciding to run again is probably the biggest factor in the loss to Trump. If he stuck to his guns we might have gotten a different candidate that could more easily distance themselves from the current administration and they would have had a longer run-in to get themselves known to voters. How much of a difference it would have made though, we’ll never know - but I think there’ll be a lot of democrats who hold it against him.

You could say the same about abortion, couldn't you? There were many Democrat commentators around who were convinced that every US woman of child-bearing age were going out voting Harris just so they could get their abortion on demand back. That this was 'the female issue of our times'.

She thanked him and his wife at the start of her speech.

That said there's likely not much love lost between them

The joke there would be that he does think he won it…

But he was apparently surrounded by yes-men and enablers throughout his presidency if the bad polling data was any kind of revelation to him. I don't think I saw many swing state polls that ever had him ahead of Trump at any point in 2024. Maybe a few ones from Michigan or Wisconsin consisting of a one or two point lead, but the overall trend most definitely had him underwater, as they say.

It was this circle around him which was the only thing that ever gave him a thought of winning. There was no evidence to back up the idea that this was possible. It's mad to think he wanted to stay on after his debate performance. Getting completely lost mid-sentence and finishing with '…we beat Medicaid' while looking like he genuinely didn't know where he was - anyone would know there is no recovering from that. It just can't happen.

I remember in the aftermath to the 2016 election thinking maybe this is the end of the obsession with identity politics. All the coverage in the run up to and immediately after the result was identity politics talk.

Here we are 8 years later and it’s still the same. The dems scratching their heads because white women and Latinos aren’t voting for them. It’s so fcking insulting and patronising that people are reduced to a gender / race and questions are asked when they don’t vote a certain way based solely on those factors.

Unfortunately, I think identity politics isn’t going anywhere and is only going to get worse as time goes on.

Jack Smith has been told by the DOJ to wind down his investigations into Trump as sitting presidents cannot be prosecuted.

I wouldnt like to be in Alvin Bragg and Fani Willis' shoes now especially Bragg who pursued a personal vendetta against Trump with a farcical case.

Will be interesting to see will Trump go after the people who politically persecuted him.

I think he need only bare his teeth and they will be quaking in their boots and run away, the boot is on the other foot now.

    There can be only one.

boards.ie got me elected both times. You'll notice that Hillary joined too late (August 2016) and was promptly banned (proper order)

    https://www.boards.ie/profile/discussions/Hillary%20Clinton

The Sleepy lad also got banned but had registered in enough time to get the ball rolling for support

    https://www.boards.ie/profile/discussions/Joe%20Biden

Kamala never even bothered registering. Amateur. Was never going to win anything after such an amateur mistake
