The only constant from the last Trump term is that he's likely to contradict his stance on any topic very quickly when he hears negative feedback or he has forgotten what the topic is about.

There's no point wasting energy on arguing about his utterances as he's as likely to attack his own stance without self awareness.

They were right to reject that so-called border bill. It would've done nothing to solve the huge crisis, that they created, by the way, with their love of open borders, at the border.

I'm not worried about Trump so much, it's the legion of ghouls that will be unleashed into government that are the real danger. Trump left to his own devices will **** around golfing and embezzling money from the government.

Whatever about their respective policies and failures, or who you would/would not like to win, this is a really odd take.

"Dems are mad wheeling out rich celebrities to try to appeal to the common man, everyone knows that to appeal to the common man they should have…….*checks notes*………nominated one of those rich celebrities instead". It's like the Simpsons episode where they say Mayor Quimby is unsuitable for the job because he freed convicted killer Sideshow Bob, so you should vote for Sideshow Bob instead. It doesn't stand up to the most basic of scrutiny.

Trump won because he's a man. Same as he did in 2016.

That's all it boils down to, really. They're not ready in USA to have a female leader, no matter how liberal or left leaning the Democratic party may seem to be (or the Reps scream they are), the country as a whole is a lot more right-wing than they'll ever let on. Including the Dems. They'd be considered a right wing party pretty much everywhere else. There are, literally, 10s to 100s of millions of people on both sides of the aisle who will not vote for a woman, any woman, because she's a woman. Especially not one who was shoved down their throats at the last minute because the real nominee was well past it.

The entire country is ruled by money and capitalism is king. Even Obama was a bit of a warmonger, despite him being lionised in certain left-wing circles and winning peach prizes.

You're right, though, they got exactly what they deserved. Just a pity the rest of us will have to deal with the hangover.

That's the thing though. The man is notoriously acquisitive and lazy. The real problem is the people behind him, particularly the Heritage Foundation, their network and their Project 2025. They knew that the Trump presidency was a farce so they've made blueprints and prepared vetted staff for a second one. Now, we're here. Trump himself just has to sign what they put under his nose and take credit on X.

Only in a racial sense are legal American citizen Hispanic voters, many of whom are American-born, and illegal immigrant Hispanics the same people.

Whites don't votes as a unified racial bloc - so why should other groups?

Besides which Hispanics have different nationalities of origin. Does a wealthy Venezuelan businessman in New York want dirt poor Mexicans coming en masse through the border in Arizona without residency, legal status, means of support, language skills etc.?

Democrats once again, singularly failed to take advantage of the open goal presented to them. I thought when Biden walked a picket line, it might have been a sign that they've finally realised where their base should be centred, but obviously that wasn't the case. It's been said before, but the Democrats love to lose. They rake in record profits everytime, and this will probably be the case once again.

It's always money, money, money. The idea of patriotism and love of one's country is anathema to them. You see it as well in how they talk about Brexit. It's always about money. They cannot fathom how people did not wabt to be in an empire, i.e. the EU in this case, and wished instead to be an independent and sovereign nation.

Similarly, they can't understand how Trump could appeal to people who are desperately worried about the state of their country. Trump was very wise to focus on the border. A country with wide open borders might as well not be a country.

Exactly. It would annoy me to see millions of people entering the country illegally if I had entered the country legally, especially given how extremely difficult it is to get into the US.

That's the US's choice. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice….etc.

I guess having previously lived and worked in the US I don't labour any false aspirations for the place.

Ironically I was there when Trump was making a name for himself in NY in the late 80s, he claimed it was he that cleaned up Atlantic City and solved the mob issue there. They were long by then and I think his casinos there went bust since.

On his first victory I wondered if social media had blindsided politics, but nah, he's actually pretty representative of the average US attention span.

In fairness, I think a lot of people expected Harris to win, albeit marginally. I definitely wasn't expecting Trump to take the popular vote but here we are. Biden was supposed to be a placeholder president and in Harris, we got someone who was competent and that's about it.

Trying getting fruit picking, nannys, nursing home staff etc.. without illegal immigrants in the US.

It's been like that since I was laboured in the US in the 80s.

Plenty of illegals from 3rd world countries will eat animals. Stop falling for MSM lies.

Trump rightly tried to secure the border first Time around but democrats were so salty he won they tried to put the breaks on everything he wanted to do especially this.

When Biden got in they open the flood gates just to spite him and by the time they tried to close the dam the republicans now voted against so the mess they made got even worse.

This is one of the core issues including the economy that swayed voters back to trump. Not only do they want prosperity but they want stability too.

Going forward it would be wise of the democrats to chase a hard border sealed tight and enforce deportations for illegals.

If anything we could benefit after the UK labour party burned bridges with trump recently. If trump throws the toys out of the pram and drives a hard bargain with the UK we could pick up a few American companies who could bring their workforce with them.

Trump might publicly endorse Farage and reform and state they'd do a good trade deal if they ever returned to government. He'll want his pals regaining power.

The guy had a Republican trifecta in government for 2 years ffs. His own party shut down the government while he was president. Then his own party blocked the bipartisan border bill on his say.

This is entirely nonsense. Nonsense that millions of people seem to have fallen for, but provably nonsense all the same.

Another thing people need to understand is that hardly anyone bothers with social media, particularly Twitter, and so it isn't representative of public opinion. The media are obsessed with it, but hardly anyone bothers with them either, so they too should be ignored. But people sometimes talk about how people on Twitter are going crazy about such and such a thing or about how "Twitter erupts". They're a loud and noisy minority that should be ignored. A bit like the crowd on reddit. If you spent five minutes on that website reading about the US you would think that the entire population of the country was made up of so-called progressives only.

I think you're listening to too much MSM. "America isn't ready for a woman" is such copium. He beat two of the worst women they could have put against him. If his daughter Ivanka went into politics she'd probably still beat Kamala. Utterly useless.

People are also sick of hearing things like "wouldn't it be great to have the first female president". They want a meritocracy not diversity hires. The age of DEI hires is thankfully coming to an end. It's been a dark era of inequality (ironically) thanks to that.

It's a waste of time point out Trump's own policy contradictions with his admirers. It's all narcissism.

    MAGA just means "me first".

The wall failed in large part because US law makes it very difficult to seize land from private landowners, which the federal government needed in order to build. That delayed them long enough and when they no longer controlled the trifecta the democrats put the breaks on it before Biden reversed it all together.

So I get that if you're a legit immigrant from a Hispanic background, that you are likely to not be supportive of illegal immigrants.

Do they think that Trumps plan, enacted by like some unpleasant individuals, to deport all illegals won't sweep up a pile of people who may be legal but the wrong colour?

I'd be pretty willing to bank on their being more families split and repeats of the holding camps previously used.

Plus, I believe that illegals contribute something close to 100bn a year into the social welfare/medicare pot, and do all of those jobs that no Americans want to do.

I'd imagine the building trade, restaurants, farms, etc... will be decimated.

The same way that a lot of similar industries in the UK took an absolute hammering post brexit when the Europeans, etc...weren't arriving for fruit picking season, etc...

If you spend 4 years (really the last 8 years I guess) vilifying a group within the economy, it does eventually take hold, especially with the way people consume their info these days.

Also, I think that Biden will actually ultimately be looked back on as a successful president in terms of accomplishments. People look at the outward facing doddery old man that's been president and say...he's incompetent and ineffective. There's a good, and balanced Swamp Notes piece on it in the FT (can't share it with non subscribers). It's titled "Is Biden's legacy dependent on a Trump defeat?" for those that want to do some digging.

I think as well when it came to mobilising the ground troops and getting out and voting, the Republicans did it with more intensity and effort.

Democrats didn't want to put the work in.

Just after coming across an article in that awful Guardian. The author talks about how the Guardian are going to "stand up" to Trump over the next four years (I'm sure he's quaking in his boots). It's really amazing how unaware such people are that they live in a bubble. For years polls and surveys have shown that a tiny number of American people trust the media. I don't know why they don't do something else. They're all identical anyway (Guardian, Salon, NYT, Washington Post, MSNBC, NBC, CNN, etc) so you could just have one of them that most people could ignore instead of having to ignore a whole load of them.

And the author predictably enough talks about how Trump is a threat to democracy. Her candidate skipped the entire democratic process and didn't get a single vote. She's not concerned about that threat to democracy, however. That's when I stopped reading, thank God. About two sentences into the article.

I won't link to the article because I'm still a bit unsure about what's considered link dumping and what isn't.

Gentle Mod Note: I eat animals too as do most Americans. You've made your anti-immigrant point earlier. Stop repeating it ad nauseum

    Pee Wee German himself.

On that, I would be more worried about who he appoints over anything. Trump says things, and usually does nothing to go along with that. This time around, it seems he has a few pretty sinister characters in his trail.

You should be more concerned about what damage our morons here will do to the economy, than Trump. You can laugh at him all you like , unlike every single politician who will run here in a few weeks, he has nerves, determination of steel, he doesn't try to be all things to all people. The reckless giveaway budget we just observed here, be more concerned about that , than goings on, that you have no control over...

I never mind a reckless giveaway budget before an election its continuing with stuff like that afterwards

If SF were doing as well as they had been, yes that massive bribe or horrendous economic mismanagement, would have been more understandable, there was no need for it, we are and we're getting another term of lots said nothing done ffg governance...

    Determination of steel 🙄

The second anyone isn't happy with what he's doing he just tells them what they want to hear and that it has nothing to do with him. I've never seen anyone refuse to take responsibility for anything in his own campaign/administration to remotely the same degree. The only benefit for the world is his follow through is awful, but its a terrible reflection on the man.
