It doesn’t matter a jot if me or anyone else consider him horrible. Plenty of horrible people have been voted in before and that is a valid democratic choice.

But why should anyone respect people who give their vote, their most powerful tool, away to a man who only considers an election valid if he wins? Why should anyone respect that choice?

I would love to know what would have happened if the Democrats had done the right thing and nominated Bernie Sanders in 2016. But we’ll never know now.

I spent a whole day reading the writings of Elizabeth Jean Carroll, you should do the same it was a real eye opener.

Ugh… A wealthy, private school educated, BA in 'Business', that married into the Democrat machine and instantly set up a consulting/lobbying firm off the back of her husband's connections, and so good at her job that she managed to steer her candidate into an historic loss against a half-wit goon. LOL
You think you despise these chai-oat milk latte sipping, utterly useless 'laptop-class’ grifters, but I assure you that you really don't despise them enough. They are as you point out, the superfluous and parasitic class that is indeed the real problem with America.

Lol, don't fall of that pedestal now. Plenty of decent people on "this side" also.

You conveniently ignore the fact that it was republicans under Regan who set that train rolling and every policy Trump has will exacerbate the chasm. He's used a bunch of idiots who react to slogans and entertainment from a presidential candidate as if it were an episode of a tv show.

Not intelligent enough to separate the real intentions of a man like Trump from what he says on a stage. He did nothing for anyone he promised to help last time, bar ensuring a couple of 100k more of them died of Covid than needed to. Every policy introduced caused contraction in the economy which only really became evident when his term was up and now he'll ride the wave of increased economic output brought about by policies enacted by Biden.

It's a century long story in American politics, Republicans overspending and tanking. Democrats generally doing much better in power before getting turfed for the Republican shìtshow again. But this time the clown show has really come off the rails.

    Quoting myself here:

I think if there is to be any surprise it will be that Harris looses by even more than expected.

How is it that little ole me called this and yet the news media were talking about a neck and neck race?

Because I know left wing media is extremely biased so you just go with the opposite to what they are saying.

Donald Trump won the popular vote and you''re telling me that noone who works in the press had an inkling that this was the way it was headed? Too close to call my arse. That's what was said on RTE news last night and elsewhere. Lies, basically.

I think the left in the US are are so incredibly stupid and hypocritical, and that is essentially why they lost, as well of course for putting forward an incoherent candidate to be the first ever woman president. How on earth did they not twig that the 'anyone but Trump' angle was never going to work. If anything it helped him.

The state of our news media is a huge problem, but thank god for the internet and X in particular. No wonder there are dark forces trying to have it under their control.

Trump won because most Americans value real problems like the economy and immigration over imaginary problems like climate change and reproductive rights

trump is 78. Older than the average life expectancy of an American male. I'd say the same to him.

I'd argue that it's actually that intransigence that wins the day for Trump.

A moderate Democrat campaign where a genuine effort is made to listen to the voter and address their concerns defeats him easily. There's nothing remarkable about the man. People just have a natural inclination to push back against obvious, over the top attempts to sway them. The Democrat campaign was full of that shite and they exposed themselves as having less virtue than Trump. That's actually difficult to do!

Where you getting €120k figure from you talking about international students or out of state students?

University of Washington is 12k per year if you live in the State, Western Washington is 7.5k per year if you live in the State.

You talking about attending Harvey or Cornell?

Becasue you have been led to believe that it exists in everything you dont like so you see it everywhere.

And it has also become a little bit of a self fulfilling with a element on the left who tend too reactionary behaviours too. "The right call this thing I support in woke, and they also call this other thing I dont support woke, so therefore because the right dont like it I should"

Israel already have a blank cheque so that wouldn't be a change.

Honestly though I don't think Trump gives blank cheques to anyone, he's a businessman at heart and I think he's likely frustrated at the billions pumped into aid and weapons for what he sees as foreign wars while inflation rises and Americans feel the pinch.

I think he'll give whatever symbolic support or border recognition Israel want as he did before but will look to wrap up the arms supply.

Not to mention the fact that these companies are here TO DO BUSINESS IN EUROPE, they are here explicitly because we are a well educated english speaking country with open access to the European market in which they are operating.

Of course they are going nowhere. Their profits however might be a different matter depending on what kind of deals the Don is looking to cut and what legal loopholes might be closed.

Tariffs against China would be very much worse for China. Their housing bubble has burst, they're demographically screwed, yet facing increasing youth unemployment and their costs are way up. India's looking way better for outsourcing, or more to the point Mexico on their doorstep and already their second biggest trading partner after Canada.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

There has been a lot of hyperbole over Trump being fascist, and the end of democracy and the like.

However, what an absolute joke of a country that the best they could come up with to run the country is that complete embarrassment. You wouldn't trust him to look after your pet goldfish never mind being the president of the US.

Well they just played a massive part in getting him re-elected.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,251 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

The people who know him the best, worked the closest with him who have come out and called him an outright fascist would beg to differ.

Anyway, we'll see soon enough if he actually is one, or just cos-playing

What is not in dispute, is that 75ish million americans went to the polls and voted for a man who said he wants to deport millions of immigrants on day 1, hand over control of government accountability to Elon Musk, healthcare to RFK Jr. If he implements the Project 2025 plan (or more realistically, if he appoints people who do that for him, because Trump will delegate all the actual work in his presidency) then the people in america will see more and more of their freedoms curtailed in favour of Cromwellian religious conservativism along with dismantling most regulations that keep people safe from corporate greed and recklessness

    Chomsky(2017) on the Republican party

"Has there ever been an organisation in human history that is dedicated, with such commitment, to the destruction of organised human life on Earth?"

There's a skill shortage in the US too.

How would Trump sell reshoring to the US public? "We're bringing back the jobs, and we're filling them with immigrants!"

I think you’re giving Americans as a whole too much credit. Not saying what you wrote isn’t true but I guarantee you there are huge demographics (older generation, young males, the majority of the white population) who would never vote for a woman as president. They see the economy is in trouble, and not trending in their best interests, and think a woman won’t fix it.

To be clear, this isn’t my view but having been based in the states during the Clinton/Trump election, I on several occasions heard men say they would never vote for a woman. He’s been involved in three presidential elections now and he only lost one, to a male. People will come up with a plethora of reasons Harris didn’t win but the Americans as a country have a very different mindset to what we have in Ireland

They may not leave but they may downsize. It may also be wishful thinking to believe that they won't leave because of EU business.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭Novfith

Yeah he said he will deport illegals. Who is against that?

Trump is in because a lot of people realised that this message is exactly how a lot of the democratic party think

Trump went on many podcasts aimed at the young male voter including Joe Rogan this will be remembered as the election that social media tik tok and podcasts decided

Harris went on one podcast I think the increase in votes for trump is explained by more men black white minority who are angry at high prices cost of living high cost of housing

Gen z is facing climate change high cost of living political extremism misinformation there's a lot of men who will not vote for a black woman

Peope are blaming Biden for the high cost of living America is being effected by climate change hurricanes and dangerous fires are damaging the environment and costing billions in damage to buildings and infrastructure

IIf you are not well off and can pay a mortgage it's tough being a member of gen z

Speaks to a real failure by the Democrats to publicize the successes they've had in resuscitating the economy since 2020. Harris should ran harder on tackling the rampant price gouging and exploitation being experienced by working class people.

Who knows, maybe Democrats will finally embrace their progressive wing and stop ignoring what people tell them they want. Doubt it though.

I was led by no one.

Wokeness is now in the English dictionary.

In my 40+ years running my own company I saw wokeness emerge among some employees and customers. When explaining this I used to say "you know his general attitude to social justice, his lack of…" but then I started using the term wokeness as it saved me time and the definition fitted.

So what you have is a belief, but in my case it is wrong.

I reckon Biden is secretly smiling to himself. He clearly resents being pushed aside and never seemed to be trying to help Harris win. He can now say he's the only one who defeated Trump. It's well known his wife hates Harris.

Indeed, his record of beating Trump will never be beaten as there will be no more elections in the US (Well according to the likes of Oprah).

    Trump will rule infinitum.
