Would 'bookies right, pollsters wrong' be a fair assessment? Didn't follow it closely but we kept getting told the polls couldn't separate them, in the end he romped home.

Yes but a lot of people here do support him. He has said he wants to pull American multinationals out of Ireland so why do these people support him?

Getting the excuses for a Trump failure in early are we?

A terrible day for the US and the world. They voted a convicted criminal into the White House for the first time ever over a first female President.

Voted for someone who when asked if he had a health plan said he had the 'concept' of a plan. Says he'll let RFK Jr., an anti-vaxxer who wants to take fluoride out of water, handle all that stuff.

Voted for someone who trashed the US military, mocked dead soldiers, and got out of serving himself by claiming bone spurs.

Voted for someone who wouldn't accept his previous loss and incited a riot to stop the result. Question: why would 'the deep state' or whoever steal the last election, but not this one when the stakes are much greater? Answer: it was a myth.

Voted for someone who demonises immigrants and claimed in the debate he lost that Haitian migrants were eating cats and dogs.

Voted for someone who in the campaign congratulated Elon Musk on how ruthless he is at firing striking workers.

Voted for someone who thinks climate change is a hoax and wants to let his rich pals burn the planet.

Voted for someone who bragged about grabbing women by their privates.

Voted for a guy who will be the oldest President in office despite lamenting the previous President's age.

    And that's just for starters.

But hey, at least his fans can get to 'own the libs'. Hope that makes the coming years worth it. Own it.

Overall, yeah. They didn't have him winning the popular vote.

Also they had her strong favourite for Nevada, Wisconsin and Michigan the last week or so.

Bookies decide based on where the money goes. So actually it was punters right.

Israel have free reign to finish off the remnants of Hamas and Hezbollah now.

Is that a bad thing that Islamic terrorist groups supported by Iran get defeated ?

I've already seen people say it's not a democracy because of the electoral college.

But if Kamala won, they'd be saying democracy prevailed. Also they can't lean on the popular vote this time either.

Ya would have never thought when I was younger that Republicans would be the ones helping Russia rebuild the empire.

I guess hate is an easier sell to most people than hope.

Give people someone to blame and spout easy solutions to complex problems...you can worry about the consequences after the fact

    Trump will fix it.
The only thing he’ll fix and was probably his whole motivation for running is making his legal woes go away. He promised so much to so many. He’ll spend his presidency enriching himself and his family, and golfing. He couldn’t even go through this mornings press conference without plugging Melanie’s book.

Perhaps gaslighting, projection and virtue signalling wasn't a good foundation for an election campaign after all!

    What a comeback tho'.

    Go Trump.

Well, that sums it up perfectly. The first rapist president (that we know about).

What does a candidate being a woman have anything to do with whether they should vote for them or not?

I'm glad that when America does vote for a woman, it's because she's viewed as the best for the job, not just because she's a woman president.

Damnnn the USD rose 1.5% v the Euro AND the stock futures are up 2%.

    Bitcoin also surging.

All signs the economy is going to soar under Trump.

America will likely never vote for a woman. As a nation they'd rather put a complete buffoon with a c**k in the White House than a woman, no matter how good she is

    Proof: 2016 and 2024

The only way a woman will ever become president of that once-great nation is if Biden resigns between now and January. His resignation would make Harris the 47th president - Trump would still become the 48th.

Doing so could change the first sentence in my post

    Are you for real??

I think 16,000 children have been bombed to bits by Israel. I assume you thing they were all members of some terrorist organisation.

    Sex isn't the issue.

    Kamala was just a disaster.

Harris bombed b because she wasn't a very good candidate.

In normal circumstances she would have been weeded out very early in the primaries.

The money was spot on, i followed the exchanges most of the night and as soon as i saw Trump at 1.21 i knew the game was up for Harris

She was an incredibly bad choice by the Democrats although she had little time to build momentum. Regardless, she was never going to beat Trump and he has absolutely smashed her.

A sad day, That fcuker in Israel and Putin will be rubbing their hands together with glee.

Ukraine only hope is for the EU to subsidise the differance now that they'll get no further cash from Trump and the middle east now has no hope whatsoever unless France/UK/Germany take a real stand (which won't happen)

As opposed to the convicted felon who stood idly by and watched over 250,000 deaths due to COVID during his first term, the man who rambles about immigrants eating dogs, wants to decimate abortion and LGBT rights. Organised the storming of the capitol in 2020.

    Is he a better candidate?

I disagree, America doesn't want a woman doing what they see as a mans job. No matter how bad the man is he has to win

Still in shock at the results but clearly Biden left the race too late leaving Democrats no time to select a better candidate.

Even so I still can't believe that any person of substance would vote for Trump but perhaps I and others are guilty of looking at this through broader Irish/European eyes whilst in reality Americans are extremely inward looking and vote based on their own personal finances and the price of a gallon of petrol.

That's were the sentiment was in Trump's favour and Americans have fallen for it. Don't care about his criminal record, poor performance in last term, lying, attemped coup etc. No, I had more money when he was in power so I'll vote for him.

Really fail to see how USA can be considered leader of the free world anymore.

Only thing is that the next 4 years are bound to be chaotic and like his last term he wont' deliver on half his promises but it's very bad news for Ukraine, NATO and Europe.

Makes you think how lucky we are in Ireland when it comes to politics. We don't have lunatics in the forefront like Trump/Tories/Le Pen etc

Or more that Irish people aren't as thick as the people in the countries of these mentioned.

If FG is as bad as it gets for me, then i''ll happily accept that
