I've done my numbers today. Flogas are offering €50 credit on gas and €220 on electricity. Slightly higher standing charge but slightly lower electricity rates. Looks like I'll be jumping to them.

Do companies recoup the welcome bonus if you leave early? Specifically Flogas. I know there is the €50 exit fee

    been watching this for weeks:

Worked out some calculations in excel and used energypal also.

Every scenario i entered, which doesn't exceed the monthly caps, Energia worked out the cheapest for electricity.

Electric Ireland & SSE were the next best.

    Day 26.71

    Peak 28

    Night 14.3

    Gas 7.99

Read the terms and conditions of your contract. I left SSE in 2022 after 6 months they billed me the €50 contract break fee but didn't recoup the welcome credit.

Bonkers have removed the day/night rate comparison, but why? It did seek day rate and night rates before

I noticed this recently but assumed it was always the case and just a shortcoming whereby only a single rate can be entered for your current supplier... If it was an option before, then I'd say they'll probably fix it once reported.

It's to confuse people who cannot look up the unit prices for each supplier.Exactly like airlines advertise a fare that bears no relation to what you end up paying.

I was with Energia and renewed with Energia last week, thought I'd share how it went. I'm on 24hr Urban, smart meter but not activated.

Spoke with Energia customer service and was offered 25.09 c/kWh with standing charge of €236.62.
4500 units per year comes out at €1365.67

Electric Ireland were offering 25.02 c/kWh + €100 cashback with standing charge €250.77
4500 units per year comes out at €1,276.67 inc. cashback

I decided to initiate the switch to EI from Energia. The next day I received a call from Energia offering the following: 23.61c/kWh with standing charge of €236.62 + €30 euro credit.

4500 units per year comes out at €1269.07 inc. cashback

In addition to this, EI have already announced their new rate beginning 1st November which was included in the calculations above. Energia have yet to announce their next price cut so it's possible the rate I agreed on could drop a little more, here's hoping.

Anyone else on the BG EV plan having trouble downloading the most recent bill? My bill was issued on the first of this month, I'm very happy with the cost but I keep getting an error when I try to download it. My total spend on the browser continues to rise when it should be starting from the beginning of the new billing period.

I had that problem on my first bill but I was told it would take a few days to resolve, which is what happened.. I presume its the same issue.

I got the 25% Black Friday deal from Bord Gais last year so on 29.5c/14.6c Electric and 8.4c Gas. They initially offered 15% discount and then got call offering 25% and €100 credit. Hoping by doing nothing I get one last call with €200 credit which I'll probably take. The Smart plans don't seem to compete at all.

one week out from end of BGE contract and still only offering 20% discount

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

Out of contract next week, will see if there's any offers for Black Friday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,931 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Same here (11th) - is it likely that there will be significant savings if you were to wait the additional 2 weeks to black Friday?

My first €125 credit is in my account today (BG).

My first 125 credit is in my energia account but I just recently switched. Can I get this money off them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,844 ✭✭✭Dr.Winston O'Boogie

What happens when you switch providers in terms of the government credit? Just switched from energia to bord gas, just before I switched I got an email from energia noting that the government credit will be applied to my next bill. I'm due a gas bill from them but it'll be for less than the credit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,833 ✭✭✭bren2001

Yes, just contact them and they will send it to you.

I was on Black Friday 25% deal from last year with BG for gas only. They are offering same plus €50 bonus and 25% off a gas boiler service (they dont service my make of boiler so thats of no benefit at all). My contract expires later this month. I will wait and see what they do for this black Friday.

I really wish all energy providers would. just be more open with their pricing and not have multi levels of discounts on offer to people at the same time. Energy is second only to health insurance for complicating or obfuscating matters for customers.

whats best to do, time of use (Day, Peak, Night) or 24hr plan, with Energia not too keen to jump ship

they're offering 25.45c KW (inc vat) and gas @ 7.99c (inc vat)

was on there EV night rate but its a PHEV we have so only take 2 hrs max to charge and not every night

so many options, last time I did switch over between clearing closing bills and new bills coming in from new supplier felt like a lot of money went out in quick succession so reason i'd like to stay put

upload your file from esb networks to energypal and see what that comes back with

    The internet isn’t for everyone

Closed my account with flogas recently, I had a credit of 200 on my account and was told it takes up to 8 weeks to get a refund.
