Trump only told Netanyahu to "do what you have to do" two weeks ago. So he's pretty clearly backing Israel and egging them on.

Francie, there's many people very informed on the make up of the US government, and Trumps thoughts and plans around this, his associates within these other branches and what he would like to do with the whole thing both in the Irish media and on this thread than you might think dropping in here for the first time on the day of the election or close to it.

And aside from the tired dismissal of negative views as to his intentions, one of the people who referred to him in the context of Hitler was the man on the ballot papers beside him, JD Vance.

It's also worth mentioning that fascism and negative governance isn't all Hitler or sunshine and lollipops, there's a very wide spectrum there and the implication that people in Irish media or on this thread think that Trump is directly comparable to Hitler is make belief. It's tiring and ignores the negative actions he carried out while in government, the direct and indirect impact of these and the intention that many close to him have for what he might do with his time if he does win today.

Where he isn't invading poland or has the concentration camps up and running now, one has to look at the years preceeding the start of World War 2 to understand the similarities between the Hitler Government and where the GOP/MAGA?Trump campaign has slipped to. I visited the memorial in Berlin recently adjacent to the last remaining piece of the Berlin wall, which detailled the actions of the Nazi party before the start of World war 2, and there's striking similarities between the two.

    Nationalism and Patriotism

Nazis: Emphasized extreme nationalism, advocating for the racial superiority of the "Aryan race" and the need to reclaim Germany's lost glory post-WWI ("Lebensraum").
MAGA: Focuses on "America First," with calls to prioritize American interests, jobs, and identity over global cooperation and foreign influence.

    Populism and Anti-Elitism

Nazis: Gained support by attacking the Weimar government, intellectual elites, and cosmopolitan cities, blaming them for economic hardship and cultural decay.
MAGA: Rallies against the so-called "deep state," liberal elites, intellectuals, and media, blaming them for economic inequality, cultural decline, and loss of American values.

    Scapegoating and Xenophobia

Nazis: Blamed Jews, communists, and minorities (e.g., Roma, disabled people) for Germany’s economic woes and social instability.
MAGA: Targets immigrants (particularly from Latin America and Muslim-majority countries), Black Lives Matter activists, and other non-white groups, claiming they undermine American society.

    Authoritarianism and Democratic Undermining

Nazis: After gaining power, the Nazis quickly dismantled the democratic Weimar Republic, centralized authority under Hitler, and suppressed political opposition.
MAGA: Trump and MAGA figures have challenged democratic institutions (e.g., attacking the legitimacy of elections, pressuring judiciary and Congress, undermining checks and balances) to consolidate power.

    Militarism and Law-and-Order Rhetoric

Nazis: Glorified the military and paramilitary groups like the SA and SS, using them to enforce political conformity and suppress dissent.
MAGA: Strong "law and order" rhetoric, glorification of military and police forces, support for armed militia groups (e.g., Proud Boys, Oath Keepers), and encouraging violence against protestors or political opponents.

    Cult of Personality

Nazis: Adolf Hitler was portrayed as a messianic leader, the singular savior of the German people.
MAGA: Donald Trump is central to the movement, seen as a strong, unassailable leader who "tells it like it is" and can "drain the swamp."

Rhetoric of National Decline and Crisis

Nazis: Promoted the idea that Germany had been humiliated by the Treaty of Versailles and undermined by internal enemies, requiring radical change to recover its past strength.
MAGA: Argues that America has lost its greatness due to globalism, immigration, and liberal policies, emphasizing a return to an idealized past ("Make America Great Again").

    Anti-Immigrant and Nativist Policies

Nazis: Passed laws to exclude and marginalize Jews and non-Germans, culminating in the Nuremberg Laws and eventually the Holocaust.
MAGA: Advocates for strict immigration policies, such as building a border wall, travel bans targeting Muslim-majority countries, and mass deportations.

    Conspiracy Theories and Disinformation

Nazis: Spread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, such as the idea that Jews were responsible for Germany’s defeat in WWI and global financial crises ("stab-in-the-back myth").
MAGA: Conspiracies like QAnon, claims of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election, and the "deep state" narrative that unseen forces are undermining Trump and American patriots.

    Use of Violence and Intimidation

Nazis: Employed paramilitary forces like the SA (Brownshirts) to intimidate opponents, disrupt opposition rallies, and enforce Nazi ideology.
MAGA: Encouragement of violence against political opponents, as seen in events like the January 6th Capitol insurrection, armed protests, and clashes with counter-protestors.

    Media Control and Propaganda

Nazis: Controlled the press, using propaganda through Joseph Goebbels to spread Nazi ideology and silence dissenting voices.
MAGA: Regular attacks on the mainstream media ("fake news"), promotion of alternative right-wing media (e.g., Fox News, Breitbart, OANN), and use of social media to spread disinformation and create an alternative reality.

    Economic Grievances

Nazis: Capitalized on Germany's hyperinflation, unemployment, and economic collapse in the 1920s and 1930s, blaming Jews, communists, and the Treaty of Versailles.
MAGA: Focused on the perceived economic decline of working-class white Americans, blaming globalization, outsourcing, and immigration for job loss, and vowing to bring back manufacturing jobs.

    Anti-Globalism

Nazis: Opposed international cooperation, arguing that Germany needed to be self-sufficient and dominate its neighbors for resources and security.
MAGA: Similarly anti-globalist, opposing trade deals (e.g., NAFTA), international agreements (e.g., the Paris Climate Accord), and multilateral organizations like the UN, promoting isolationist policies instead.

    Religious Rhetoric

Nazis: While officially secular, the Nazis exploited Christian sentiments to gain support, portraying Hitler as a figure sent to save Germany, and aligning with conservative Christians to fight "godless" communism.
MAGA: Strong ties with Christian nationalism, portraying Trump as a defender of Christian values and Western civilization against secularism, immigration, and multiculturalism.

    Gender Roles and Family Values

Nazis: Emphasized traditional gender roles, promoting women as mothers and homemakers to increase the "Aryan" birthrate and strengthen the German nation.
MAGA: Echoes traditionalist views on gender, emphasizing the preservation of traditional family structures and opposing LGBTQ+ rights and progressive gender policies.

    Patriotism vs. Cosmopolitanism

Nazis: Demonized cosmopolitanism and urban centers as decadent, Jewish-controlled spaces that eroded national values.
MAGA: Targets urban elites, liberal cities, and coastal regions, portraying them as disconnected from "real" America, which is identified with rural, white, conservative areas.

With regards to the previous Harris ad about how women can vote differently to their husbands in the booth (and how the suggestion was being made that it was encouraging women to lie to their husbands), the Harris campaign have released another ad.

    "just sayings is all"

Amazing how ye fall for misrepresentation. It reads like 17% of all votes are fraudulent, yet the reality here is a potential issue with voter registration was uncovered resulting in 2,500 ballots being investigated and 1&% of those having a issue. System detects and resolves issue doesn't have the same ring to it though

If Trump does win then this saying as never held more true -

I will be glad to see the back of Donald Trump. What a truly awful person with no redeeming quality. The fact that so many think he’s a viable alternative is some indictment on the state of things not just in USA but western Democracies.

I hope the republicans can reset and come back to reality after this and/or the Dems also do some serious self reflection on how we got here. Such a sad state of affairs that we’ve come to this.

Well it was a fair interesting and chaotic 100 odd days.

It's without doubt that Harris in the past 10 days finished the stronger with Trump crawling to the finish line and if the reports are to believed leaving his campaign team completely exacerbated and fed up.

It definitely would appear at least on the face of it that Harris has the momentum going into today.

One thing I never believed, which was a Republican false narrative of women's health care not been on the ballot.

You take away the 50 years of the majority of voters reproductive rights and their is going to be a reaction. Quite fitting if women deny Trump the White House.

Anyway may the best Woman win.

Could be the weekend or even longer before we find out.

So here are the highlights of Trump and Palestine:

    • Moved embassy to Jerusalem in a clear effort to massage Benjamin and inflame the region, despite his own embassy staff telling him not to
    • Trumps unequivocal support with a promise to Israel that if elected he is in full support of them getting it done in a few days
    • He has repeatedly given out about pro Palestine protests in the US despite the republican view on free speech
    • He has promised to screen out Muslims and Gaza refugees, particularly those sympathetic to Palestine from immigration
    • He receives huge backing from the US Zionist movement
    • He signed an executive order to recognise Israel's rights to occupied territories
    • He shut down the PLO in Washington while in office

These are just off the top of my head. Yes Harris will undoubtedly continue Bidens support but people forget that Biden got Humanitarian corridors open, made public calls to Benjamin to avoid civilian casualties, as well as Harris pointing out that the behaviour of Israel was not acceptable and the people of Palestine have a right to freedom and security from Israel.

But listen, you are right, Trump would be way better, the Palestinian would only suffer for a few weeks at most and then he can go build another few Condos and hotels over there.

Just to be clear, neither are great for Palestine but one is far worse than the other, I have my opinions on that, you have yours.

Those millions heavily made up of the 'celebrities should stay out of politics crowd'.

Republicans complained in 2020 that Twitter was turned against Trump becuase of Jack Dorsey influence. It wasn't. So they talked about removing the Section 230 protection which would massively impact social media platforms in holding the companies responsible for every piece of content on their platforms.

That didn't fly, and since then, Musk bought Twitter for 44B and has turned it in to a propaganda platform for conservative ideals and he himself has become heavily involved in pushing a lot of that propaganda.

Let's hope they're both disappointed later today and this week.

Tens of millions of backwards young men suddenly feel a bit more validated.

This election will be determined by the intelligence of women versus the stupidity and prejudice of men. Let's hope the women prevail

Joe Rogan always endorsed Trump. You just had to listen to him fawning over him for years.

Rogan thanking Trump so much for buying Twitter.

Saying he saved free speech and democracy.

    Unbelievable.

    Spotted this on twitter.

I'm not posting the link, but rather screengrabbing a quoted tweet which highlights the absolute hypocrisy of Rogan.

Wouldn't be surprised if his fragile ego felt compelled to write this after Harris decided not to go on his show...

Fair enough - there was all sorts of “distractions” lets call them throughout the campaign - but as we get to polling day the issues are:

The economy , Immigration and the border and potentially abortion.

I believe Trump is perceived as a better choice for immigration - he’s led as being better for the economy but I don’t think the perception is as strong. Which leaves abortion - are waves of republican female voters about to cross over in the privacy of the polling booth and vote Democrat? I’m not sure- it’s a good sounding story and my god would it be a coup if they pulled it off- but it’s a big ask.

I’ve always asked in this race, where are the women and the ethnic minorities for Harris? I haven’t seen them in the numbers that should have been present and reflected in the polls, given her own ethnicity and the chance to make gender history for the office of POTUS.

Safety, security, economy - these were always the key issues and that’s how Americans will vote, regardless of what other factors are present within the campaign - on that basis Trump is still in with a fair chance of winning.

Which may sound good for Musk but in reality it could open up all sorts of legal jeopardy going forward.

Primarily because his Lawyer admitted to a judge that it is not a lottery and the "winner" is hand picked. 😁

    Fraud 101.

I’ve always asked in this race, where are the women and the ethnic minorities for Harris?

    Huh?

They are very much talking about a record breaking gender gap beating any election that has gone before.

As for minorities if they rally in both Arizona and Nevada she has a very good chance of taking those states.

So what about the Muslim community urging a protest vote for Trump?

There are plenty of other ethnic minorities, especially the very poor, going on record as voting for Trump -

And where have these “record numbers” been reflected in the polls throughout? There may well be a wave of whatever coming, but the polls themselves are still neck and neck albeit changing daily .

We’ll know soon enough but “huh?” doesn’t really cut it right now .

Biden won 5-0 in Dixville New Hampshire in 2020, so technically the above result is a ~60% swing to Trump signalling a GOP landslide on the way!

    Clinton won 4-2-1-1 in 2016.
