I think she has a strong chance of doing better than Biden did. Would not shock me if she flipped one or both of Texas and Florida. Feel the swell of sentiment against Trump and the Republicans isn't being captured accurately by the media in their polling.

Just vibes, but it would be nice.

I’d love it if you’re right. But this is not my first rodeo.

I’m still upset about the Florida recount in 2000

I still can't comprehend how this is still been seen as a coin flip election.

The endorsements from multitudes of Republicans for Harris

The endorsements from people with huge followings on Social Media

The pictures and videos of the half full arenas for Trump rally's and the images of people leaving well before they're finished.

The utter shambles of a ground game that Musk has deployed through his America PAC, with people just being paid to do the work Harris has thousands of volunteers doing for free (some people driving across state lines to volunteer)

The car crash trainwreck that was Trumps MSG event.

How tired Trump looks and sounds.

    I honestly don't get it.

I think Harris is gonna get over 300 EC votes and we're all going to be talking about how did the pollsters get it so wrong (again)?

Biden won with the voters by about 4.5% and its possible Harris could get somewhere close to that if the suggestions that the polls are under counting women voting for Harris because many won't in public admit to doing so due to their maga nutter dad, boyfriend, husband, family etc are true. But we will just have to see what happens. The only thing I feel very confident of right now is that Harris will get the most votes.

I should add that I very much hope you prove to be spot on.

All very valid points. I guess we will just have to wait and see. In 2016 the polls were very wrong in reading the Republican vote lets hope they are under counting the Democratic vote and are very wrong with that this time.

I will say in particular I think the MSG hate fest may go down as a pivotal point.

The Betfair betting market has really turned towards Trump in the last few weeks.

A month or so ago both he and Harris were even money, but now Trump is 1.69 (approx 4/6 or 60% probably) while Harris has drifted to 2.44, (approx 7/5 or 40% probably)

That's a huge swing in a race that is supposed to be so tight.

And it's a mature market, €220 million has been bet on it, so it takes a lot of money to move it.

Based on that and the polling data I don't understand how people here have confidence in Harris winning, let alone winning in some sort of a landslide.

The women are pissed about Roe v Wade. They are gonna bring it home for Kamala. It's time for a new stepmomala

Well what I will say is this. Firstly Wisconsin and Michigan while not a done deal look good for Harris. That means if she wins Pennsylvania it is over. Now Trump in recent days including his unhinged deranged rants yesterday is claiming that there is fraud in the early Pennsylvania voting that suggests his internal information is telling him he is losing. Plus also in early voting data from Pennsylvania 56% of the voters are women and only 44% men. Then you have the fact that 480,000 Puerto Ricans live in that state and well its reasonable to think a good chunk of them will now vote for Harris after the hate fest at Trump's rally in New York last Sunday. So certainly nothing is a done deal but there are reasons for genuine optimism rather than someone just clutching at straws.

I think Harris will miss Michigan by a hair but clean up elsewhere with NC and GA blue. I'm more interested in how much the gap closes in red states, there seems to be plenty of momentum in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Texas.

I'm thinking Harris gets 300+ electoral college.

Based on following a lot of stuff online that's more focussed around early voting, etc... and less focussed around polling.

Also read a very interesting article around basically how Lara Trump has killed the grass roots GOP funding.

So much money pulled in from GOP coffers dealing with Trump legal stuff, as well as a focus on the "vote watchers" rather than the stuff the normal GOP kills the Dems on. Namely door-knocking style local feet on the ground, get the people out politics.

In essence, it seems that the constant nepotism from team Trump means you mostly have idiots running the show.

Women, abortion rights, etc... should still be big ticket items.

But a terrible 2-party system really does keep that doubt ticking away in the back of your mind unfortunately.

Most of us are hoping the polls are correct and Harris squeaks through.

I still remember going to bed in 2026 with Clinton signaling victory and waking up to the Time of Trump.

Trumps vote was under represented in the polls. I’m hoping this was balanced out in the recent polls.

    Hope that’s not repeated tomorrow

Fascists always target the disabled. Trump would absolutely favour a eugenics program if the Americans are stupid enough to let him seize power

I swear to God but this election is bringing up so much dejevu from 2016 it's making me very nervous.

I said on here at the weekend that I think Harris will win and still very much stand behind my logic in saying that. But to see how the narrative has shifted so much in the last couple of days to not being a toss up, but to conversations of it being a landslide, just makes me uneasy because of having been here before and seeing the impact of how that played out.

My view/hope is that the polls have over-corrected in their assessment of Trump's after under-counting it last time. With everything that's come out about his corruption, sexual assaults, racism and lack of respect since democracy he couldn't possibly be increasing his vote (and the low attendance at his rallies / having to pay people from Craigslist to attend is a signal it's fallen). Add in the fact his mishandling of Covid literally killed a decent chunk of the demographics who supported him last time (anti-vaxer idiots and the elderly) and the numbers turning out for him this year has to be lower than it was against both Clinton and Biden. Add in all the under-polled youth who'll be voting for the first time, the endorsements for Harris (or outright condemnations of Trump) from high-profile Republicans like Liz Cheney, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mike Pence etc and celebrities and the fact Harris doesn't have the baggage (or the total lack of charisma) of Hilary and hasn't had to face off against the left wing of the Democrats like she did in the primary against Sanders and it's pretty hard to see how Trump could possibly win (aside from large scale election fraud).

The majority of these predictions i'm seeing are what people are hoping will happen and are drawing their own conclusions. The fact is that Trump is favourite to win with all bookmakers, while that does not gaurentee or predict the outcome, it does say that it is more in his favour than not.

I really don't know why people care so much anyway, all this crap of people being "worried" and "i really hope he doesn't win"

Who cares? The only differance it will make to you, based on you being an Irish resident is that your social media will be filled with more bollox than usual. The planet didn't burn the last time he was in charge and if he wins it'll just be another term of bluster.

I think what we might be seeing is the 'sunk cost effect' of supporting Trump. I have been watching some interviews with supporters, mainly on YouTube, and often they are unable to justify their reason for supporting Trump when challenged. Even faced with facts they are not open to re-examining their choices. This morning I hear a voter say they had voted for trump. When asked if they agreed with Jan 6th events they said no but they 'knew' that the riots were caused by FBI agents who had infiltrated the demonstration. All the demonstrators wanted, according to him, was to take selfies. Supporting Trump has become a cult amongst some people and they will always find a reason to dismiss any criticism of him.

Thanks for the link to the Selzer interview. Interesting . She does however seem to put the swing down to the Congressional campaign as she herself notes that the presidential candidates haven't really spent much of either time or money in Ohio.

Irrespective of the outcome, and i certainly hope for a Harris victory, the American people are deeply divided with an almost messianic cult taking hold of a large section of the population.

Re Selzer, I think I read that, in essence, her poll is generally out by a margin, but that if trump were to only scrape by in Ohio that its a strong indicator that he'll be really struggling in the other swing states.

Allowing for the fact that something like 20% of reps were still writing in Nikki Haley after she'd dropped out and Trump was running unopposed, you would hope some of that will translate to a portion of reps not voting for Trump in the general.

    So let's paint a picture on how a trump presidency will affect ireland directly;

Trump slashes corporate tax rate and as a result, the apples and the googles up sticks and leave Ireland. What will that do for our tax revenues?

Trump cedes Ukraine to Putin. Do you think Putin will just stop with Ukraine? There's the Russian enclave of Transnistria, not to mention to 'reintroduce' the Baltic states to the Russian Empire. With the amount of displacement of people from those areas, how will our already-strained housing stock cope with that? Not to mention the increase in inflation that war always brings.

    So yeah, it does matter

Whataboutery, come back, if and when any of that happens. This bollox about the Apples of this world leaving Ireland has been thrown about for years. It's not gonna happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,216 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

And this bollox also about Putin, he can't even get past a rag tag army in Ukraine. If he tried anything against a UN member they would be crushed, sure Finland would smash what's left of the Russian army so i'd say come out from under your pillow. Things will be alright, whatever may happen

Also an interesting stat in terms of how they've been funded this cycle (from the FT)

Harris has exceeded the number of small donors contributions to the campaign compared to 2020, and only 6% of her money has come from billionaire groups

Whereas Trump has raised less in small donations than he did in 2020 and 34% of his haul came from billionaire groups.

It adds a but more to the idea of reduced ground level support on the Trump side.

But I guess Billionaire money can be influential in different ways in terms of the media, etc...

Tens of thousands more Ukrainians will be raped or murdered by Putin's marauding hordes but sure who cares about them?🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,216 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

What are you waffling about? I'm not going to get in to more whataboutery being bandied about left, right and centre on this thread.

"Tens of thousands" Jesus Christ, give your head a wobble

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,216 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

Where does it say these corps are moving back to America?

I'd focus your energy on the upcoming elections in Ireland rather than the drama everyone seems to adore on this thread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,021 ✭✭✭✭duploelabs

Ok, lets assume you're a serious poster.

That rag tag army is being held up a lot by american finance and weapons. Trump has said he'll withdraw that support, not to mention he tried to extort Zelensky as part of his first Impeechment.

And if you mean NATO, rather than UN, Russia was been in electronic warfare with estonia for years.

My prediction of how this will go down.

    IMG_0987.jpeg

Nevada could go red though, along with MI and WI

NC seems close enough still and PA could go either way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,216 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

Don't be so childish with this "serious poster" bollox, get away from the whataboutery, IF america pulled support and it's a big IF, you can be gaurenteed it would be subsidised from elsewhere. Like Europe.

I generally stay well clear from people with your drama queen mindset in the "real world" so i'll leave it there
