Paint peeling off car hood

Hi all, I was hoping to get some advice with paint peeling off the hood of my car.

I have a Jap import, and it got a dose of bird p00p over the summer. As soon as I can get to it, I sprayed WD40 over it for a few minutes, then washed it with warm soapy water. But it seems this caused the paint to peel off over time. It looks like a plastic film over the paint peeling off more than anything.

Any suggestions how I can try to fix this? Thanks!

That's the clear coat peeling, respray is your only option

Thanks @PsychoPete…do you reckon the WD40 caused it?

    It’s a 2014 @kippy, bought it late last year.

Thank you @User1998…I couldn’t think of anything else that would cause it, other than not getting rid of the p00p in time. I would have been removing it in a day or two max.

It has been very badly repainted in the past that's why it came off

The bird poo can be very acidic in the summer. Whether it’s an old wives tale or not Swallows are the worst. It caused etching on my car a few years ago when it got baked on my the sun.
That bonnet might have had a poor re spray at some point in the past and the bird poo ate through it.

Respray is your only option to get it looking well again I’m afraid.

Clear off bird poo with some detail spray and a microfibre cloth when you see it.
If it has dried, don’t scratch it. Get a cloth really, really wet and leave it on the poo for 5 or 10 mins. It’ll dissolve it.
