I responded to your post on its own merits, no one should be expected to go looking for other posts to try to determine the supposed intended context of each and every one of them in case someone is going to be annoyed with what is posted in response.

Either challenge the content of my post, or agree with it and add to it, or ignore it, I'm fine with whatever.

I'm gonna stick my neck on the chopping board for this and I know…I know I will be called stupid/deluded/insane but I thing this is going to be a Harris win in a landslide. The American people are not stupid and I include a section of the mad maga mob in that. I believe they will see through all the lies/bluster of the orange idiot and go big for Harris.

FYI - those early voting polls aren't exit polls, if you don't have much confidence in the general polling then I wouldn't place much confidence in the early voting polling either tbh.

Some of the data is actual voter registrations and then you've polling being done in the field asking if people voted and how they voted. The polling seems to be a bit of a mess.

I wouldn't be surprised of a wide miss!

If I'm reading that correctly, that would give Harris winning all:
    PA +2pt
    MI +8pt
    WI +2pt

PA & WI seems to be on par with the current polling, MI seems the outlier.

I like this. But there are elements that I disagree with and it's for democracy that the dirty laundry gets aired. Do not @ Dt to me. Anyone. I'm speaking about her. And the Dems. To have avoided any scrutiny at all from anyone by avoiding primaries was a disservice to democracy.

I thought the Dems would be better. I honestly wanted Pete to win it out. But this at any costs that allowed a coronation of Harris is not what the future should look like. It should have been a race and the best candidate would have won. Bidens immortal line before the last election was that he was going to beat Donald like a drum. The right candidate now would be doing that. She ain't it.

And people would do well to remember the mess, pre and post Biden debate night was. This was nothing close to strategy and has been handled so badly, that a race with a convicted felon, he has a 50/50 chance. That's on her and her nonsense rambling in interviews.

I'll disengage from the thread because newbies seem to be convinced I'm defending DT.

I won't check back in regardless of the result because its going to be all recriminations, regardless.

how much would Harris have to win by to make any legal challenges by trump pointless??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,030 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

I've already said on here I expect a Harris win and said it 'could be' a landslide for her because there's just so much in her favour and so little negative stories or events in the campaign that has been a genuine boost to Trump (The assassination attempt aside).

But I'm still nervous, I've allowed a TikTok account to trend conservative and there's no shortage of posts from colleges and the likes of young people saying they're going Trump.

With respect to the American people not being stupid, that could be the lead to an entirely new thread. I'm not calling them stupid, I don't know what it is, maybe blinkered/blinded/biased/ignorant or one of those adjectives. I can't see, and have failed to see a cogent argument as to why Trump is objectively a better option. He is not a leader, a unifier, a strategist, a producer of productive policies or a delegator. There is no mask of the unknown that he can hide behind like he had in 2016 so why will so many vote for him? I'm not saying they're stupid, but I'm pretty sure that what they think they are seeing isn't there.

A fascinating article on the game of thrones like machinations inside the Trump campaign. Various factions battling for control, funds goings missing and the realisation that when Trump does and says nothing his polling numbers get better, when he speaks, when they let Trump be Trump, the numbers aren’t so good.

Tounge-in-cheek: 1 or more electoral votes.

Reality? There's no depravity to which the GOP will won't sink. Harris could win 100% of the EC and they're challenge it.

IMO (and I'm on the record expecting Harris to win), if Harris wins without flipping a GOP 'stronghold' (FL, TX, some southern dump state), they'll challenge.

Did he wreck everything the last time he was in charge?

There were mistakes made during COVID but that applies to every single political leader in the world during that period.Nothing really changed for the good or bad during his previous term yet apparently if he gets in now it'll be the worst thing that will ever happen, just like him winning in 2016 was the worst thing that could ever happen when in reality it made little difference to anything.

He only filled the thoughts of people who are ridiculously obsessed with him and seem to want to blame him for everything wrong with the world.

The almighty algorithm. It shields people who have gone one direction or another from the follies of the respective campaigns. America is so polarised as a direct result of social media and creating these huge echo chambers where people end up doom scrolling a particular agenda, further reinforcing those ideas. I guarantee plenty of people haven't seen half of the stuff Trump has come out with and if they have it's been spun and thrown into the machine to keep it positive.

If she takes Texas of Florida, it's done and dusted. Very unlikely she will take either mind, so aside from that. If she has 3+ victories in a number of swing states then Trump isn't going to overturn that.

Marc E Elias has been doing trojan work the last 4 years in challenging Republican acts in multiple states to influence how elections might be carried out, supervised or how the electorate could participate.

So, there's been something about Trump fantasising about putting Liz Cheney in front of a firing squad and now he's pretending to have oral sex with a microphone? What is going on over there?

    uhh..

    crashed economy.

Stacked the SCOTUS with political hacks, leading to things like the Chevron defense being defenestrated.

Various corrupt/incompetent cabinet secretaries and agency heads getting up to mischief (EPA, Dept of Education).

There is absolutely zero way, legally or practically, that the Dems could have had a primary. They had one, it was over.

The only alternative was a contested convention of Biden delegates which was going to have no more " democratic legitimacy" then what happened.

    Just trying to remember.

Who did trump et al explicitly piss off.

    1. Gay people (Vance's normal gay people comment)
    2. Transgender (operations in school)
    3. Puerto Rico (eating the dogs)
    4. Jews (head examined)
    5. Women (anti abortion etc)

    Who else do we have?

dick Cheney has invited trump to go hunting quail with him after the election. Win or lose.

Military - lots of insults especially to 4-star generals (he wants Generals like Hitler had.)

    Democrats - scum.

Puerto rico was the island of trash. It was Haitians eating the pets.

    Fine people on both sides.

    Muslim ban.

Taking classified documents to his golf course.

Banning transgender people from the military.

Awful response to several natural disasters.

Sucking up to several dictators and autocrats.

    Scrapping the Iran deal.

Moving the US embassy in Israel.

    Sperating children from families.

    Jan 6th.

    Jesus, the list goes on.

Did he wreck everything the last time he was in charge?

    • He made America take backward steps with respect to identifying the need for climate action with his pulling out of the Paris Climate accord.
    • He undermined NATO significantly which is relevant with respect to Russia's actions in Ukraine.
    • He emboldened Saudi Arabia with being weak in response to their killing of Jamal Khashoggi.
    • He emboldened Israel with the moving of the US embassy to Jerusalem.
    • He disturbed the Middle East with the pulling out of the Iran Nuclear deal.
    • He facilitated the emergence of populist rhetoric that significantly influenced government strategy and environments in the UK, Ireland, Europe and beyond.
    • He criminally mismanaged Covid, but in real time, and prior to it though the disbanding of the Pandemic preparation office.
    • He stoked the fires of racial and public/police division in the US throughout his Presidency.
    • He promised a lot, and delivered very little on these promises.
    • He significantly undermined faith in the US electoral process.
    • He harmed the perceived dignity of the office of US President.
    • He massively encouraged the undermining of intellectual processes and procedures specifically relating to proven vaccines.

Most Presidents have things they shouldn't be proud of (Biden should never be revered in Ireland again after his support of a Genocide by Israel) but Trump was, by a distance, the worst president of my lifetime thus far.

For sure in terms of what happened.

I was thinking of a hypothetical eg Biden stepping aside say last November.

Wow- interesting perspective on how Harris has neglected the Arab American vote and the young students throughout the country who have protested in collage campuses .

“Harris is repeating the exact same mistake, but, in addition to alienating Michigan [which has one of the highest number of Muslim voters in the US], she’s alienated the youth vote, too, by patronising and dismissing the student protesters who have been on the streets and campuses protesting what's happening in the Middle East.

“Her messaging has been nothing short of ghoulish, effectively telling voters: “I know you don’t like genocide, but don’t you want cheaper groceries?”

This one likely hurts a lot and it’s not far from the truth given their very unbrave approach to the Israel Gaza conflict:.

“With Biden a bungling afterthought, Harris has proven herself equally as complicit, and so managed what once seemed unthinkable — posit the hitherto cartoonish Trump as an anti-war candidate.”

From alienating the ethnic and especially Muslim vote, to no longer having relevance to the blue collar worker , considering it’s the swing states that will decide, I won’t be surprised if Harris loses this election

Kurdish allies. Withdrew their us military support and left them to deal with the combined forces of the Turks, Syrian army (who love a bit of chemical warfare), and the Russians

Tried to extort a foreign leader for his own personal gain and made the US a laughing stock on the international stage. Plus the insurrection etc.

Another opinion columnist, with an obvious agenda, who doesn't get it:

two choices: Harris, or Trump. Which will be better for Gaza? I don't think there's much doubt.

Considering the state of ruin of Gaza isn’t it academic at this stage? Besides plenty of Muslim support for Trump emerging as a protest vote

The Paris Climate accord thing is a load of nonsense.China , India etc are doing whatever they like and ignoring all supposed climate action , it's just a form of virtue signalling staying in it.

Nothing wrong with populist rhetoric, that is what democracy is supposed to be although some people feel we should just listen to our "betters" in the media and politics do what they tell us.
