    "Proportionality" in action.

If the IDF "did not know" the building was used as a shelter, and the "danger" was someone with binoculars on the roof, they shouldn't have bombed it.

Well, of course, "moral" armies wouldn't have bombed it because that would be a war crime. Perhaps the IDF are in a space were a few more war crimes added to the long list r4eally doesn't matter…

An Israeli military official has told the BBC that it carried out a deadly strike on a five-storey residential building in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza on Tuesday in response to seeing a “spotter” on the roof with binoculars observing Israeli forces.

Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry said more than 90 Palestinians, including 25 children, were killed or missing beneath the rubble of the building, which collapsed as a result of the strike.

The military official said it was not a planned strike and troops did not know the building was being used as a shelter for displaced people.

The terrorist state simply does not give a flying duck who they kill in Gaza as they are simply now enjoying the slaughter. A sick and depraved state

ask hezbollah's entire leadership how weak israel is

I disagree, the whole point is that Israel has been found out, and discovered to be a paper tiger.

Their IronDome system (or Paperdome® as I call it) failed as soon as it was tested by something more rigorous than Hamas' fireworks. Mossad is clearly linked to the CIA - it's probably a semi-autonomous branch in reality; and virtually every escalation by Israel over the past 13 months has been preceded by a visit from a senior member of Biden's administration. Join the dots: Israel is run from Washington, not the other way around, although it suits Uncle Sam for people to think Israel is running the show, and it has a high degree of autonomy in the day to day running of events.

Which leads me to think that the quality of the pro-israel posters here is in fact the true level of Hasbara abilities - with the proviso that Ireland is a sideshow for Hasbara efforts as it is much more important for them to keep enough people onside in the US, UK and the other 5 eyes states.

You can't compare Hezbollah's ability to defend against missiles, aircraft etc, with the ability the Iranians have. They're very weak now it appears in what they can do to Iran

Well I see people are back with the "Iran has a secret mythical world class army" waffle.

The delusion is really something else, it's replacing facts and logic with utter fantasy.

Tbf this conflict started thousands of years ago. Key dates include the rise of Judaism in the region followed years later by Roman and Christian conquests. Followed years later by the islamic conquests and now the past hundred years the reconquest by the Jews.

You're never going to have peace here with 2 religions fighting over land especially when the area includes some of the holiest sights for Judaism. Isn't it mad how that area is very holy for Christianity yet we don't give a bollox about conquering it anymore.

As for the recent spat with iran. Looks like Iran suffered a black eye here militarily. IMO it will be a big mistake to launch another big attack on Israel. They've clearly shown they can strike their military defense systems and weapons facilities.

Larry Murphy is a great carpenter by all accounts. That's what we should really focus on rather than any of the crimes he commited. Should the day ever come that a member of the IDF or the current Isrseli Political leadership find themselves in court on war crimes they can point to the fact that little old Israel had invented a lot of cool stuff therefore the case against them should be overlooked!

Iran’s supreme leader has ordered his military officials to prepare a reprisal attack against Israel, a report said Thursday, as senior Iranian officials warned of “harsh” and “unimaginable” responses to Israel’s strikes on Iranian military sites earlier this month.

The report in The New York Times, citing Iranian officials, said Tehran’s response would not come until after US voters go to the polls on November 5, though other news outlets have quoted sources saying Iran’s response could come ahead of the vote.

the logic is israel wont respond to iran if attacked from iraq instead ...

Those yellow belly cowards in the IDF. Brave heroes attacking hospitals and killing women and children in areas that were conquered months ago.

Israeli strikes kill 95 Palestinians across Gaza, hospital targeted | Israel-Palestine conflict News | Al Jazeera

At least 95 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli air strikes across the Gaza Strip, mainly in the north of the enclave where a hospital was attacked, medical supplies were torched and operations were disrupted, health officials said.

Meanwhile, a new United Nations report said Israel has “perpetrated a concerted policy to destroy Gaza’s healthcare system” that has included “deliberate attacks on medical personnel and facilities”, both of which are war crimes.

    ……….

Dirty fcuking cowards have normalised the murder of innocents on a daily basis. Depraved scumbags. The RTE news reported this morning that even the USA admit that Israel are not letting aid into Northern Gaza. It's genocide. Lowest of the low. Cowards.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Hezbollah is defeating the idf's conscript army in Lebanon, so their leadership knows how weak israel is. They were supposed to drive all the way north to finish off Hezbollah, having every possible advantage, but instead have been stopped at the border in humiliating fashion.

For a group who derives its "legitimacy" entirely from violence, the failures of the idf to defeat any of its opponents over the past 12 months isn't just embarrassing - its fatal to the regime. Both the north and the south of the occupied territories are unsafe for israeli settlers because the idf cannot provide security. They're under naval blockade in the red sea by the Yemenis. Their decades long effort to secure normalisation with Arab states lie in tatters. Their economy is cratering, with israel now forced to simultaneously cut spending and raise taxes to somehow deal with a huge budget deficit. The credit rating has been cut. Their leaders are facing a war crimes investigation. They've been shocked by Irans ability to defeat their air defences, while equally shocked by Iran's ability to defeat their own air strikes.

Now its clear the israel cant kill its way out of the problem, what's left other than a slow fleeing for the exits?

all of this just shows what a horrible bunch of terrorists israel is surrounded by, the jewish people are lucky to have their great friend america to supply them with the modern weapons necessary to defend themselves :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 626 ✭✭✭felonious_Gru

In truth this is good news for the world ( though very bad news for American hedgemony) and it's not a tragedy for people in Israel either with the exception of non Jewish Israelis

While Jewish Israelis could easily move to America in the morning en masse ( the wealth of the diaspora in America alone along with political power would leave it a done deal) , the fate of Arab Israelis would be a grim prospect

I don't know what world you're living in but it's not the real world.

Iran didn't "defeat" their air defences. This is a bizarre, out-of-touch sentiment echoed by a few people here. A few missiles got through - some due to overwhelming air defenses, some due to Israel chosing not to intercept due to extreme cost.

The idea that Israel's air defence network doesn't work, doesn't exist, is a sham, simply because it cannot shoot down 100% of a mass ballistic missile attack is utterly ludicrious. Not even the US, by far the most powerful and advanced military on the planet, can guarantee a 100% shoot down rate.

Iran launched several hundred ballistic missiles and did negligible damage. It is what it is. Their stockpile is finite, their ability to replenish is finite, their ability to resist Israeli attack in the event of actual war, the idea they they could just casually launch endless waves of missiles is completely implausible.

Now, that brings us on to Iran's apparent "defeat" of Israel's air strikes. Israel destroyed one of their S300 batteries a while back and the latest strike, according to intelligence sources, destroyed most of what was left. As well as missile factories and other targets.

Now let's say you claim that the US intelligence is making all this up. Let's put it down to balance of probabilities. Who's likely to come out on top, a cutting-edge air force with the best tech in the world, or a air defence network that a) dates back to the 80s and b) has very limited batteries?

I mean seriously, some critical thinking here. Russia has probably 20x the number of similar or slightly better batteries and still can't keep the skies clear.

Putting aside that the S300 is an out of date and ineffective defense system against modern planes, where are you generally pulling this nonsense from that Iran's mighty air defense network "defeated" Israel's attack? What is this air defence network, and what equipment does it involve?

Because Iran has an antiquated air force and air defense network. This isn't some state secret it's public knowledge. Iran knows this. They've chosen to invest heavily in missiles instead simply because they know they absolutely cannot compete with Israel via conventional means. This is exactly what North Korea has done as well for the same reason.

By all means hate away on Israel, I have no problem there, but I am utterly perplexed as to why you're gulping down the Iranian kool-aid. It's really weird.

Israel are certainly lucky to have America to provide them with the weaponry to commit war crimes and then to give them diplomatic cover for their crimes. They have proven themselves over the last 13 months to be every bit as horrible as their enemies.

    Not surprising but shocking nonetheless.

Israel and Israelis will carry this shame with them for along time. Abhorrent and unforgivable.

    RTE:

The situation in northern Gaza is "apocalyptic" as Israel pursues a military offensive against Hamas militants in the area, top United Nations officials has warned.

"The entire Palestinian population in North Gaza is at imminent risk of dying from disease, famine and violence," they said in a statement signed by the acting UN aid chief Joyce Msuya, heads of UN agencies, including UN children's agency UNICEF and the World Food Programme, and other aid groups.

Israel began a wide military push in northern Gaza last month. The United States has said it was watching to ensure that its ally's actions on the ground show it does not have a "policy of starvation" in the north.

"Humanitarian aid cannot keep up with the scale of the needs due to the access constraints. Basic, life-saving goods are not available. Humanitarians are not safe to do their work and are blocked by Israeli forces and by insecurity from reaching people in need," they said.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,003 ✭✭✭✭Sand

Well, not that grim. The occupiers flee, and the Palestinians recover their homeland. Yes, there will have been huge damage done. There will be much rebuilding to carry out, but if the Palestinians can survive the last 80 years of attempted extermination by zionist invaders, they can thrive in the next 800 years.

I would hope the israelis read the changing times, and that they can no longer count on US hyperpower to back their bizarre existence on Palestinian lands. It's better for everyone - even the Palestinians - if the israelis negotiate their surrender now, from a stronger position than they will ever have in future.

Another senior Hamas leader liquidated 🍾

    🤪

You're a funny guy, I will give you that!

There's only two outcomes to this war. Either Hamas surrenders, or they are completely destroyed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,617 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

Is this opinion informed from your military experience? I ask because even senior IDF personnel have repeatedly expressed doubt about being able to achieve this goal. Of course Francie Barrett the armchair general knows more. You're also a funny guy.

230 journalists have signed a petition stating the bbc is extremely biased in it's reporting of the war in Gaza in favour of Israel criticism of the IDF or the government is being muted or Limited by management this only accurs in reporting of the war in the middle east

Article by Einat Wilf. She covers northern Ireland and the (in her view incorrect) parallels that Irish people draw between it and Israel/Palestine.

Even RTE who are usually resolutely on the side of perceived left wing positions, are fairly pulling their punches when it comes to Israeli aggression

Suspect the Irish economy has been threatened behind the scenes and beit the government stalling on the occupied territories bill or RTE mildly reporting, the decision has been made to dial truth down.
