With Casement sitting on 565mm of rainfall currently and not much if any rain forecast out to mid November it's looking like being an exceptional dry year there.

Probably even more noteworthy is the fact there were little to no extended summer warm spells and I would guess there probably wasn't any day this year above 27C possibly even 26C at Casement.

Back from Paris, weather was the same as here.

Our in park now, weather is great so mild for Nov.

I am missing a bit of sun though, haven't seen sight of it in over a week.

+1. Enjoying our weather at the moment.

Feel so sorry for all those residents in Valencia who have had their lives upturned with the terrible floods and the devastation caused to so many families who lost loved ones. It is unbelievable that heavy rain can cause so much damage and destruction to property and public facilities.

RIP to all who died. (Apologies if this should be posted somewhere else)

an hour from where my parents live was completely destroyed, they got lucky no bad downpours where they are. i've told them not to go anywhere in the car if rain is forecast, people were just wiped out in their cars.

Its been a poor week here in Donegal all week, damp constant drizzle , annoying to hear met Éireann raving on about the dry weather that we're having.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 982 ✭✭✭alentejo

It is nice to have no wind and not worry about if it going to rain later.

RIP to all in Spain. Monster rain is certainly an issue we might all have to confront over the next few years!

Nightime minimums of 13/14/15 degrees for middle of next week.Incredible.

Thank god they are ok Thelonious Monk. Yes, most of the deaths seem to have been from people getting caught in their cars. So tragic and unfortunately I don't think we have the final death toll yet.

Seen that ,at this stage I wouldn't be surprised if winter was warmer than summer, I may only be 27 but I know the seasons are out of whack , spoke to loads of people that back in the day 70s and 80s you had Warm to hot days and cold winters now we don't know any of the seasons ugh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,213 ✭✭✭compsys

The main difference is that winters in Ireland have gotten much warmer. Whereas summers have stayed almost the same. So we've got the exact opposite of what you'd want.

So the seasonal gap has changed - but not because summers are colder.

But people have very, very selective memories. It's just simply not true that the summers of the 70s, 80s and 90s were all hot and sunny. The odd one was amazing ('76 and '95 are the oft quoted classics). But most were fairly miserable and cool - just like they still are today.

Yes that's true people only remember the good ones and bad ones , I was gonna say 1976 and 1995 even 2003 was good , but for winters it would have to be 1962 into 63 , 1982 and one or two more up till 2000 etc , for me 2009 ,2010 and the snowfall of 2018 sticks out but we've had better summers the last 10 years than bad winters I know where going into la nino so that can amplify the jet stream but expected to be weak this year, i mean last year we all know about storms we had 9 or 10 between September and April, but only time will tell

The warmest overnight low of November is 15.5c at shannon airport on November 10th 2022 , (i was in Canada experiencing -25c) but i wonder if 15.5c temperature could be nearly challenged in the next few days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,053 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

In reality nothing has changed for the casual observer. We get 1 or 2 winters worth taking about every decade as we have done for donkeys. Similar to summers.

The other 8 are poor by their seasonal parameters.

Dull, damp, drizzle, North Wicklow. Yuck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,060 ✭✭✭mykrodot

I call these conditions "non weather"………..no sun, no rain, no wind, no snow, no frost…….. just nothing.

Had some nice calm sea swims this week which is unusual for November. But its a strange period too, the dullness is a bit monotonous….. at least its easy to plan stuff like hikes and to know what gear to bring.

Beats the sh*t out of the months of non stop wind we had earlier this year, this is lovely

Completely agree. Got loads done today. Dry and calm is just perfect for so many things. It gets dark early though. Next week looks lovely.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Down your neck of the woods a week ago after the wild Storm Ashleigh .

Derrynane was breathtakingly beautiful ..but still too choppy to venture in ..if I ever was going to

Fair dues for the sea swimming at this stage 👍
