Theres no doubt that Hannon looked exposed at times this year, particularly the games v Cork. He was excellent in the Munster final though.

It's one of the big calls for next year I'd say.

Can't really be making an plans for Kyle Hates just yet. But assuming he is available I think it's something should be tried.

Ide be leaving the full backs alone though. If anything Morrissey goes back up.

We essentially didn't have the same back three at any stage either due to injuries.

Great to hear Peter Casey is available for selection again. Delighted for him after what was a horrific injury.

The centre back discussion - Hannon still our best option in my opinion - and I would feel our best like for like replacement is Barry Nash. Moving him up a line opens the door to give Fergal O’Connor more minutes and we’d still have Finn, Casey, Morrissey and English who can do a job in the full back line.

Nash could play anywhere across the half back line. If Hayes is unavailable next year we’ll need another half back option that doesn’t involve moving Dan Morrissey - our best full back option - up a line.

Byrnes had a poor season by his standards, O’Donovan’s absence was a big factor too. A rejig from 5-8 is in order and Barry Nash and Adam English could be the key to rejuvenating those two lines of the pitch.

Yes I'd like Nash to move up to the half back line too, think Hannon at 6 is OK but with Byrnes there too they can be targeted like cork did x2 this year. In fairness Byrnes to come on later on in games would be a great impact with his fielding and long range points. Adam English and Shane O'Brien to be starters and maybe T Morrissey and Flanagan to take on the impact subs roles more would give the team more energy too. Hopefully Peter Casey gets back to his best, if any guy deserves a full injury free season it's him.

After losing the final in 2021, 2022 & 2023, Croagh-Kilfinny have finally claimed the Intermediate championship.

Nothing against Na Piarsaigh but I really hope Doon get over the line tomorrow.

Congratulations to doon I had my doubts but fair play they got over the line.

long over due they nearly got caught by the trap that is derrick mcgrath ball of retreating all men behind the ball when 3 points up with 15 minutes to go , but the workrate was superb , adam english is a serious free taker especially in them conditions

after pat ryan put over a boomer from the far side of the field it was everyone back , i half feel sorry for shane dowling , he cant help himself on tv , he lets his passion get ahead of himself and knowing how passionate he is as a hurler he is hurting tonight , a great servant for the cahirdavin men for nearly 20 years , but doon have had enough of it too, to be fair darragh o'donovan is almost the opposite of dowling , he is everyone favorite hurler , a straight talker a likeable lad the bird isnt half bad either and put in another super shift tonight , gave an interview for the ages afterwards too

for a lad that missed all this year its a great finish to the year , 1968 is along time to be senior with out a title in limerick , but with adam english , ritchie english , barry murphy , o donovan and donal coughlin , there is surly another title in them ,

it was argued for years up here that today wouldn't happen , its a huge victory in fairness

Great to see Doon finally get over the line, they've a good few young lads and so could well nab a few in thr next few years too. With Doon in the harty aswell its a great breeding ground for players for them.

Great to see Peter Casey off the bench and scoring a great point too.

It was a great weekend for West hurling with NCW up Senior, Croagh Kilfinny up premier Intermediate and Feenagh Kilmeedy in the Intermediate next year.

i ment to say that about peter casey , its incredible that he came on and was back to full fitness after what looked like a career ending injury , some achievement in itsself ,

yeah underneath the top tier if limerick hurling i know nothing about what props it up , i was very surprised to see newcastle west gain senior status

Yeah Newcastle west gone up to senior and Croagh won the intermediate B championship. Signs that hurling in west Limerick is on the rise. Having a big town like NCW be competitive and producing good players would be a great plus for Limerick hurling.

Adam English had some game yesterday. A great shift by the whole team but he really was head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch.

Scored 11(8) of their 16. Scored some great frees under tough conditions.

They really needed him too because their tactics leave the inside forwards very isolated. No hope of them getting scores.

I think you could be pretty spot on there. Only thing I think will be different in O'Neill in the half backs, English midfield and Peter starting.

Apologies. I thought you were replacing him with CON

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭Tommysocks11

Yes I'd drop WOD, great player to have in a battle in Waterford or ennis but in open spaces of croke park give me a more mobile midfield any day, I think english can be our darragh fitz buzzing around midfield area and tapping over 4 or 5 points a game from play. Start o brien too and maybe o connor, Flanagan and lynch need to start on bench as we need to freshen things up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,611 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

I wouldn't. Without the likes of Hannon on the pitch we need some leadership which DOD and WOD provide. They both do all the dirty work and gave unassuming roles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,566 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Lynch has hardly played in 3 years so I don't see how he is "stale".

For the millionth time. Croke Park does not have wide open spaces. "Little" Ennis is actually the maximum pitch dimensions for a GAA pitch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 858 ✭✭✭lim4ev

I think Adam English is a superb talent I see why anyone would play him midfield but for me he'd be starting closer to the opposition goal if we're lacking anything its maybe a bit of speed up front.

The three full forward line positions are probably the line of the pitch where we have the most depth, and that’s even after Mulcahy retired. The need for change is greatest in the half back and midfield lines.

There doesn’t appear to be many new natural defensive players who look championship ready - you’d think the most logical would be Colin Coughlan but maybe there’s a reason he wasn’t included on the subs on the post that started this line of comments and nobody who posted since mentioned him. Is he good enough? Apparently not good enough to displace a very out of form Diarmuid Byrnes this year.

The team could do with a few 2020 style curveballs e.g. moving Nash and Byrnes into defensive positions. English could be one of those curveballs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,566 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

I would say it's the half not full forwards where the abundance of talent is. It's also that line Mulcahy actually spent most of his time.

Also don't understand why the midfield needs a refresh. What's wrong with DOD and WOD ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 253 ✭✭rjoe90

Darragh Langan from Monaleen looked very good in the club championship matches I watched. He was on the panel last year and played a bit of the league. Could be one to watch this year. Fergal O Connor is another who could be good enough to step up.

Graeme didn’t play any hurling in the half forward line.

The forward depth we have despite Grames retirement is still really good. Hegarty, lynch, Morrissey, O neill, O Connor, English, Reidy, Boylan, O Brien, Gillane, O Dalaigh, Gillane, Flanagan and Casey is a top class forward unit with all more than able to contribute. Some might be needed in the backs/midfield but it is still impressive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 93 ✭✭biglad40isback

i take it mul is the only retirement. On hannon he was definitely exposed v cork but imo our back 6 was missing nash. Finn was not 100 percent fit and byrnes was poor all campaign and the wheels came off. I think we need a new captain too as hannon starting is not guaranteed

Nicky Quaid should be the captain in that case.
