Ah, sure. I guess it depends on how much gluten can be tolerated by the person; crossover can happen in the kitchen, but rice and lentils themselves are not sources of gluten.

I've really enjoyed the glass curtain, too. I've always had the tasting menu. Pricy, yet good value, imo.

Getting away from the fine dining 🙂, the Polish shop/cafe on Douglas St is worth a visit if you like pierogi (dumplings) with a variety of fillings. Pairs nicely with some fried potato cakes.

Nádúr Deli on Douglas St. The umbrellas outside were just big enough to keep the rain off 🙂

Food was tasty but a little expensive imho for a small portion. I had the pumpkin thing & my friend had the Kimchi toasty. The sandwich was a bit more substantial & a little cheaper to boot.

After last times disappointment, followed some youtubers advice to go to a f*cked up looking chinese and give it a try.
I pass "Pattaya one" in Mayfield often and decided to give it a try. Even as the name already is very negatively loaded. Large menu, quick order.
Lovely woman at the check out. Wife got Korma, me the House Special Fried Rice. Korma was okay, Rice would not pass Uncle Rodger, nice though. Nevertheless will go there again and try more of their food.
Youtube was right, dont let yourself shy away only because the location is run down.

Have been wanting to try it since it opened but because I'm only a weekend visitor at the minute (LDR) I hadn't had a chance until they decided to open today for the Bank Holiday. I had the jambayla, which was nice but nothing special. My partner had the gumbo, which was delicious! We shared a portion of hush puppies, which again were amazing and the beignets were fab.

Not really a restaurant as such since it closes at 5pm and is in Dunnes, but was in the Timepiece restaurant in Dunnes Bandon Road yesterday and had a beautiful turkey dinner for 9.95 - such good value and very tasty as carvery dinners go.

    Another closure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,029 ✭✭✭✭the beer revolu

Sorry to hear that. I was never enticed to go in the door of the city one, for some reason, despite it being very close to me!

While the number of restraunts closing is, obviously, of concern. I'd be interested in seeing the full picture of how many restraunts have closed AND how many new ones have opened. The RAI don't seem to have any interest in telling us the latter. Do we have less or more restraunts than, say, a year ago/2 years ago.

The RAI seem to bang the drum of closures and rarely mention new openings. It's possible of course that the new openings aren't choosing to pay membership fees to an organisation that campaigns almost solely against wages but holds fire when it comes to rent, insurance and energy costs.

Corkbeo had an article about Perry Street and did mention that there were a number of new places but it would be interesting to find out what the churn rate is and is it different to usual.

Surprised to see Perry St go - it seemed to have been a popular casual dining space. Been there twice this year and both times were hopping (weekend) but felt that on the second occasion the quality had dropped off a little. It was always a touch pricey but with good quality and ambience. The usual "it's the fault of the city" argument can't really be thrown out here as it also had out of town locations which haven't worked out (and had ample close parking).

To be honest I think that Perry Street went off the boil a long time ago.. I liked the one in town but it was getting very expensive and I genuinely felt that the quality of the food had gone down. I was always irked by the one in Ringaskiddy charging sourdough prices for sliced pan. I doubt a loaf of sourdough ever made it in there at all as even at 10.00 am they were always “sold out”. I feel sorry for the staff and hope that they get looked after. They are decent venues so hopefully someone will open them up again.

The sudden closure is due to a court order by Revenue. I feel for the staff, not so much the owners

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,246 ✭✭✭sporina

can you elaborate on that? like, were they not paying their taxes or?

Probably warehoused tax from Covid times that was overdue.

It's unfortunate that so many jobs will evaporate, it's the wait and kitchen staff that'll bear the brunt of this closure.

Their Ringaskiddy branch was continually a disappointment for me; the managers never, ever gave me any sense that they gave a flying f*ck about their customers. Any manager I personally interacted with in their Ringaskiddy branch needed to be retrained (or fired). This ranged from blatant unprofessional behaviour towards me (the customer) to undermining staff right in front of me. Good riddance to the Perry Street business model.
