Does anyone think that Elon Musk is getting ahead of some sort of news or event with his pandering to Trump the last few weeks.

He joked about it on some interview that he is finished if Trump loses 'because the big bad Dem's will go after him', but I've been wondering is he mad/bad/stupid enough to be doing this so that if he does come under media or legal pressure/focus in the coming years, he can point to this as some sort of an explanation.

Maybe I'm way off but he doesn't look comfortable at the events I've seen him at so I've been wondering why has he invested himself in this as much as he has.

No shortage of things there to give holders of Tesla stock concerns.

I'm thinking something more on a personal level, he's basically debasing himself in an environment he is not at all suited for.

Could be just one more person to burn up after moving too close in to Trump's orbit a-la Rudy Giuliani.

He seemed to have voluntarily debased himself, I think it's a combination of delusions of grandeur and his woke mind virus tourette is going doo-lally by the fact a progressive woman is running.

@PopePalpatine With all the stuff in your link, it still doesn't mention the below!

    • Producer of "Blade Runner 2049" sues Elon Musk, Tesla, and Warner Bros. Discovery for using images of the film without permission during Tesla's Cybercab promo event.
    • EU Warns Elon Musk’s Companies of Potential Fines
      • Authorities have alerted that revenue generated from this platform, along with earnings from Musk’s enterprises like SpaceX and Neuralink, might incur penalties under the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA).

^^ Getting the Idea from Brazil who went after his other companies.

@Tell me how Maybe I'm way off but he doesn't look comfortable at the events I've seen him at so I've been wondering why has he invested himself in this as much as he has.

    He gave reasons for it?

Simply put, I don't believe him. Well, I do that he hates politics, but it's what exactly he means by 'the stakes are too high' I'm wondering about.

Trump has said he will reward him so it might just be supporting Trump is a bribe and supporting Kamala won't see the same favours.

Firstly, using movie footage at a promotional event with no permission is a big no no so that's pretty normal that he would be sued.

In terms of him getting involved in an election. He's actively spreading disinformation and conspiracy theories. If Trump loses in two weeks, he will continue to try to put the result in doubt. That should be concerning for most people.

    Jesus fcuking Christ.

    https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2024/oct/25/elon-musk-has-been-in-regular-contact-with-putin-for-two-years-say-reports

The Wall Street Journal, citing several in-post and former US, European and Russian officials, reported that the conversations between the two men ranged from the personal to the geopolitical and included a request from the Russian leader not to activate his Starlink satellite internet service over Taiwan as a favour to the Chinese leader and Putin ally, Xi Jinping.

The implications of a secret channel of communication between Musk and Putin are enormous for western security. The Tesla tycoon is a key player in the US space programme and has a high-level security clearance. His company SpaceX launches US national security satellites, his Starlink satellite communications system is critical to the war in Ukraine, and he runs one of the world’s biggest and most influential social media platforms, X, which has provided a vehicle for Russian disinformation campaigns.

    If that's true….. It's just insane.

I doubt the WSJ would have published if not true, and it's no real suprise either considering his cosy relationships over the past few years.

    So what?

An investigation will start, either Trump wins in 2 weeks and the investigation is shut down, or Harris wins and Musk jets off to Dubai.

None of it matters, he's perfectly aware of this.

    From today's Guardian

The district attorney’s office in Philadelphia filed a lawsuit Monday seeking to shut down billionaire Elon Musk’s controversial $1m giveaways to voters in Pennsylvania and other swing states, calling the gimmick “an illegal lottery

I don't know why the general public just don't shut this clown down. How many of the slack jawed yokels who vote for Trump actually buy Teslas. It's F150s all the way for them. All his buyers are mainly democrat leaning so stop buying them. Same in Europe, Trump is 95% reviled as is Musk, stop buying his crap and stop using Twitter. Within a few years SpaceX will be taken from him too.

Nothing would give me more pleasure than to see this waste of space go broke.

He almost treats tesla like a tech company than a car company, he's going balls deep for robo taxis and robots; oh and those toaster looking buses. Their next quarter earnings call should be fun.

    You must have missed this

Elon Musk, already the richest man in the world, saw his wealth grow by an astonishing $34 billion in a single day on Thursday, cementing his lead atop the ultrarich rankings. The surge in his net worth followed a blockbuster earnings report from Tesla that sent the company’s stock soaring by 22%, marking its best performance since 2013.

I think when Tesla starts to lose those subsidies is when they start to end up in trouble. The EV market has drastically improved to the point where they're not the only player in town.

Wow. I guess there’s money to be made in robotaxis after all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,981 ✭✭✭threeball

Yes, but my point is, he's such a hateful c@#t that people should wipe him out now. There's tons of better options than a Tesla, the Koreans and Chinese are building better cars than Tesla. It's surviving off propaganda and being a first mover.

Same with Twitter, there's other options, move there. I have no idea why anyone would use or associate themselves with any product this fool provides. I wouldn't give him a cent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,930 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

Oh totally, I'd agree. My Twitter is long gone and I will never be going near a Tesla. I think it's more the quality of his products which will ultimately lead to their failure though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,981 ✭✭✭threeball

All imaginary money, it could disappear in the morning if half his customers just decided to go elsewhere. And Tesla was the cash cow that allows him to get funds into his other projects including Twitter.

Space X and the ability to fill space with satellites is going to be a huge issue in the future. Not content with covering the earth with crap, we've now moved on to space.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,683 ✭✭✭Cordell

It's not now, we've been doing it for almost 70 years. SpaceX just saved some stranded astronauts, and Starlink brought fast and reliable broadband Internet to rural and isolated areas.

Elon's attempt to buy the election could land him in hot water:

A PHILADELPHIA JUDGE has ordered all parties, including Elon Musk, to attend a court hearing in a lawsuit aimed at shutting down the billionaire’s $1 million-a-day (€920,000) sweepstakes in battleground states. The giveaways come from Musk’s political organisation, which aims to boost Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

Only if Trump gets into Office and clears all of the multitude of regulatory barriers currently in Musks way.

Right now , his Robo-taxis are illegal for public road in almost every country in the world.

He has bet the house on them so he needs major legislative change to get them going - along with huge technological improvements as well.

He is bank-rolling Trump in return for getting suitable doormats installed in the various regulatory bodies that will approve his robo-taxis for general use along with massive subsidies for Tesla and SpaceX

I commented yesterday but it either didn’t post or was deleted by a mod. Robots and robo-taxis are all pie in the sky. They want to create these products and use cheap offshore labour to remotely pilot them.
That’s what Musk and Bezos want.
Take the guard rails and regulation off AI development (which Trump will also do for them) and in a couple of years they can get rid of that workforce too.
How the feudal serfs left behind by their actions will ever have enough money to buy any of their products is a worry for another day.

    Can you remember joining twitter?

I don't actually remember it, but found my first few tweets.

    I joined May 29th 2009.

Strangely, I tweet this in June 19th of that year!

    image.png

Now it has me wondering what I was so excited about then? Checking his post from the same time period I was quoting him and asking what was happening.

    Another memory from June 26th

    image.png

Also google wave was the latest craze of that year.

Remember if your quitting or leaving the platform, request a download of data? Could be good memories buried in your tweets over the years?
