An FM radio doesn't even work in my house. Modern new builds, thick insulation, triple glazing etc… not great for getting an FM signal!

The Smart speakers are generally better all round but I find them a pain for "channel hopping". It's slow and you get ads every time you want to switch stations.

Roe is really just a broken AI. Great craic all the same. You know when shes on 95% of the vocab she will use just the only question is the order she'll use. Always satisfying when you predict it perfectly.

I have a small FM radio. Have it about 25 years, but it's finally starting to act up. If it gets a bump at all, it stops working and you have to start tapping it or taking the batteries out and fiddling with it. It's a pain. But it's great for listening to stuff around the house and not worrying about WiFi signal dropping or anything. Strangely though, while I've no problem at home with the signal, there's absolutely none at work.

Question about the beloved Cash Machine. Is there any way to check our entries, how often we've attempted it, etc? My guess is no, and my next guess is that it will come out as some thing that will have to happen in the interests of transparency and what have you.

Um. Look at your phone? Your SMS texts are all listed there.

I entered last week. There was no winner so it's rolled over. I went to enter a second time (and the second time always comes with a third time included free). Now, I accidentally managed to submit WIN twice today, but it was only the second text I got that told me I had three for the price of two; it should have been the first text today. Sorry if that's confusing.

WHy is Miquel Delaney doing Daffy Duck impressions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭robo

Is he? I thought he was talking as he normally does

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,380 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

No he definitely had a lisp issue.

Perhaps he got new braces, or Turkey teeth?

They really need to put Dee Reddy and John Caddel out to pasture. Especially when they zhave the likes of Ed Smith, Claire Beck and Dave Hanrahty ato replace them.

Find their forced banter incredibly cringey

What time are their shows? Never heard of either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,730 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

Dee Reddy and John Caddell are regular contributors to The Last Word on music items. Both were presenters with Phantom/TXFM. John had been the PD of TX FM and went back to the pirate days of Phantom. John is currently listed on Linkedin as Assistant Managing Editor of Today FM. Incidentally, Claire Beck also came from TX FM (but not Phantom). She was with Spin1038 before TX FM.

I never heard of Dave Hanratty before.

Dave does the music slot occassionally. Caddel just plays the grumpy old man shtick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,380 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Doesn't Caddell decide what music is played on TodayFM?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 232 ✭✭EveryoneKnowsNobodyCares

Who's DJ'ing right now? He's committing the cardinal sin of not mentioning the name of the song and the performer after the song.

No Foley again, is he off for the week?

    Covering breakfast for Ian

What's up today? Fierce echo/reverb over the news at 11, went away for a recorded report they went to, came back for whatever they finished with. Dead air just now from Louise Cantillon as she was cut off, then a really loud jingle before the volume was adjusted.

She's talking about water bottles having an expiry date now, so I'm just going to head to Spotify now rather than waiting for Ray and JP to start…

Pretty sure Ray is in for Ian all week so it would probably be Paula McSweeney again at 2

Heard the silence then the loudness. Odd alright

Has anyone else noticed they've new jingles/imaging this week? It doesn't sound great to me, not as polished as the old ones. It reminds me of local radio station imaging - not good.

Only heard the top of the hour but It's not the worst they've had.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 603 ✭✭✭Shan Doras

Do Today FM currently have a slogan? 2fm have been "The sound of the nation" since about 2014 despite that slogan sounding like it belongs in 1964.

They are doing something strange at the start of the news also.

At first I thought it was skipping to the middle of the bulletin but it seems he is reading out a headline before he starts.

We're the same (in the UK). Alexa is telling us that the Today FM skill isn't available any more. I reached out to Today FM on WhatsApp yesterday but haven't heard back yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,999 ✭✭✭ILikeBoats

Our Today FM skill no longer works either on Alexa - having to go through TuneIn which isn't the end of the world but it's more ads and a longer delay.

The new jingles are strange alright, but probably because we're so used to the old ones

More stupid nonsense with Today FM's sports news. Turned on the radio at 9 pm to be told that Shamrock Rovers were leading Larne 3-1 (the match started at 5.45 and had already finished 4-1) and that Man Utd's game against Fenerbahce was starting at 8. Christ.

They probably get hundreds of WhatsApp messages every day with shoutouts and competitions. You’d be better off emailing them

They responded yesterday evening to suggest using Rayo, which works fine.
