So who has the caught the various eyes during the championships. Admittedly I was only at the Ramor games this year but from our side I do think Matthew Smith could be looking at a call up for the county. Especially if the new rules come in, young Nulty caught the eye whenever he came on the sheer pace alone although I would say next year will tell a lot with him. Young mc Crystal had a good year also. The two Bradys from Ballyhaise seemed to have good competitions also.

If the new rules come in it could be brilliant for us as we have plenty of speedy corner forwards who may be a bit light for intercounty football as it stands but the new rules will open it up again for speedy corner forwards.

On a side note some of them scores in the minor game yesterday while wind assisted were top drawer and them lads will give the stars a fair boost over the next few years

Be interesting to see how Crosserlough do against Kilcoo . Kilcoo hammered Kingscourt and Ramor before and those games were in Breffni. Crosserlough have a lot players over 6th and probaly a bigger team in size then kilcoo who are a through the hands running team.

Yes watched the minor game yesterday and the long range shooting especially with the wind was excellent- the Kingscourt full forward scored a beautiful line ball with his weak foot late in the game.

Not sure if it went from a wind that was straight behind to more blustery for senior game but didnt help them, especially Ramor in first half, didnt seem like they could judge it at all and 10 wides kicked on a day like that, was always going to leave them with too much to do.

Think Luke Molloy from Gaels definitely worth a senior call up, impressed in the Senior championship for them. David Brady has gone abroad for the forseeable afaik so wont be around for county, I believe Michael played in the trial game with new rules versus Kildare recently and should be there or thereabouts. You would also think someone like Darragh Lovett will be able to thrive under these new rules if adopted.

Mckeon was very good for Kingscourt. Good size and both feet. They have 5 or 6 players who will be looking to get onto their Senior team next year. Shekelton solid at centre back. Southern Gaels lost their best forward in training last week. Shane Donahoe, dislocated the shoulder.

Yes, they had some nice footballers on the team. Thought their full back McAvinney should of been MOTM, kicked a beauty of a score at the end and was very solid throughout. Yeah big loss that and Joe Crowe earlier in the year too. Jake Brady was their main threat and still u15 so has another 3 years at that age grade, very nice footballer though

Southern Gaels would probaly be unhappy with a few of the goals conceded. Was it the first or 2nd goal that was punched into the net on the ground? Looked a bit controversial. The 3rd goal was poor defending.

On the commentary there were surely ‘pockets picked’ on the ‘three quarters line’

I know the attendance was poor but was there any sightings of Geoff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭tazman06

Not sure, he had a lot to shoulder the last while

You could ask his 2nd reincarnation who recently joined here.

Mickey Graham to be part of the Galway set up replacing Cian O Neill. Emlyn Mulligan and a few others not happy with his move

Poor form. Obviously it wasn't personal issues rather €€€

Mickey never said it was personal issues in fairness. He said circumstances outside of his control. And the decisions of the Leitrim players are outside of his control.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,349 ✭✭✭rrs

Taking the Leitrim job wasn't outside of his control though. There was other jobs available instead of taking up the offer of Leitrim, like Westmeath, or a coach with Roscommon. But just leaving after 2 monthd looks poor.

Taken it wasn't outside his control but what happened after was and he was going to be setup to fail there after that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,349 ✭✭✭rrs

If players weren't going to commit , he should have discussed before taking over. He was in the backroom team in 23 so would know the players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,736 ✭✭✭celt262

Maybe the players didn't disclose what their intentions were prior to him taking over ? Either way if he is going to Galway and is getting more money for that the best of luck to him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,349 ✭✭✭rrs

You would usually know unless he didn't discuss it with the players beforehand. Dessie Dolan stepped down in Westmeath because there was going to be departures.

Be interesting to see what he can bring to the Galway attack. They were very wasteful in the All Ireland final.

Great win for the Lough at the weekend. Monster first half from their defence. Tackled hard, turned over and used possession very well into a gale. Laid the foundation for the win. Ramor will be very disappointed. Something looked off with them, a lot of first half substitutions that didn't make sense and could not use the wind to their advantage at all. Some horrific shooting too to only collect 2 points in 30 mins of football and at half time you felt their goose was cooked.

But conditions were awful for football and it took the Kilnaleck men a while to find their groove second half. They fell into the same trap Ramor did first half. Took some silly shots at goal that went wide and you could sense a bit of panic and frustration setting in but once they tagged on a couple of points lead it looked like only one winner. The goal was huge too in a game like that and combined with some very useful substitutions, they ran out convincing winners. Very deserved MOM for Conor Rehill who was a colossus throughout.

It was an unusual county final and very strange to see so many supporters streaming out the gates before the game even started but a brilliant day none the less for the team and supporters from Skintown who get to properly celebrate this time despite the storm. Hope they don't overdo it and give Ulster their best. Would be brilliant to see a Cavan team finally pick up a win in this competition and there's no bigger stage than Kilcoo in Newry.

I think it's poor form but probably the best decision for both parties long term even though there might be sour grapes now.

Mickey is not a man to build from scratch and once a lot of the lads he had in mind weren't available it was no longer a job for him. Additionally if Leitrim can find a man who's genuinely enthused by the task and is looking to make a name for himself, they're better off than stuck with someone who's heart is not in it.

Ramor had a sickness in camp affected nearly every player. Another reason to delay the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,365 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Why would a sports game be delayed because a few lads claim to have had a tummy bug? From the look of the size of their panel before the game, Ramor had more than enough lads available.

Bad form from their management with their interview after the game bemoaning the weather. It was the same for both teams when the ball was thrown in.

Forget the excuses. The better team on the day won.

A great few days in Skintown and a superb way to round off the week with the stand opening in honour of a tremendous clubman on Saturday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,349 ✭✭✭rrs

He was entitled to his opinion in fairness. The chairmen of both Clubs felt the game should have been called off beforehand. Crosserlough did deserve to win .

Susan Brady must not look at the weather, going on about the conditions being ok in the morning. It was later in the day when the high winds were predicted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,365 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Nobody said he wasn’t entitled to an opinion but don’t use the weather as an excuse. His players weren’t doing what he told them and that wasn’t down to the weather. He was shouting at them to move the ball through the hands quickly and they didn’t.

Also, Liam Brady came out to the middle of the field and only made a few handpasses but blocked up the whole running channel for them.

For our potential county goalkeeper, he was very poor on the first goal. Why in gods name did a player of his experience allow that ball to bounce in those conditions? Sure with the wet sod, it could slip anywhere, like it did.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,349 ✭✭✭rrs

Yeah shouldn't be letting it bounce. Its probaly up in the air who will be keeper for Cavan next year. O Rouke from Ballyhaise hasn't been convincing. Maybe O Hara from Arva could be looked at.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭tazman06

I agree on the weather, but blaming Brady for the goal is very harsh. Ball was carried by a gale force wind and James Smith was under it. Sure, he didn't get a touch it looks like, but Brady couldn't have known that. It happened very fast and if he went for the bouncing ball he could well have been caught by Smith getting a fist to the ball. It was very dynamic and had to choose. It was a very tough choice in the conditions

Yeah was a bad bug doing the rounds in the Ramor camp all week and that explains the substitutions. No excuses though lack of a mobile full forward really cost Ramor. Ado is lethal if the ball is played to him but it was impossible to judge in that wind.

Also the Lough defended so well in the first half they left Ramor with no option but to try the long shots, i think 11 wides in the first half.

The weather according to the Ballyhaise Met Eireann station didn't record a gust within yellow warning territory, still had a massive impact on the game & it could have been postponed but with tickets already sold it was never going to happen. If it was cash at the gate id imagine it may have been different.

Both teams had to play the conditions and the better team throughout the competition won so no complaints from me.

Tynan missed the game, he was back in hospital so his alter ego was correct.

For me, he’s experienced enough to know he has to come for that ball. In training up and down the country, keepers are constantly told it’s your square and you have to command it.

I wouldn’t agree it was “very dynamic”. The ball came from beyond the 45. A ball is coming towards his square, he has to be ready to command it, no matter who or what is in his way.
