Dublin is dangerous but so are many parts of Ireland like Longford or Limerick… too few guards and too few prisons means criminals know the odds are in their favour

I love bringing down my local community. I'm a criminal or scumbag as some people call me. All I know is I make the money and have the bitches.

People who say dublin is dangerous are eitherly extremely soft or extremely sheltered. The reality is 99% of people who go in Dublin city centre to work, shop, attend concerts, restaurants, pubs etc all come out unharmed. And that's the reason they do it again and again and again.

Wow, so 1 in a hundred are harmed?

    That's a shockingly high statistic.

All joking aside, there's a difference between being safe and feeling safe. There is definitely an unsafe vibe in Dublin city centre day and night, and this is especially true on main throughfares like O'Connell St and the streets off it, Parnell, Henry St, Talbot and the quays.

I do say Dublin is dangerous.

    Why is it dangerous?

Thankfully nothing has ever happened me, my family or friends when in town but we must be the lucky ones!

Move to a proper dangerous city and it will open your eyes. Ireland is a very safe country.

That shouldn't be the yardstick used to measure our capital.

Bad actors, now there’s something for the “things I hate people saying “ thread.

You can run into trouble anywhere. Unfortunately, you have to portray and utilise a certain type of persona when walking/living about anywhere in order to deflect that potential trouble. Doesn't help things a whole lot, but sure what can you do? Wait for McEntee to solve it?

A report like this commissioned by the government was only going to have one outcome in the run up to an election, I wonder how many Gardai were around the GPO for Harris's photo shoot

    Of course it should.

Ireland should be compared to other 1st world major western cities. Any who thinks Ireland is more dangerous than London, Paris, Amsterdam, Naples, Barcelona, Madrid has likely never visited any of those cities. I could list prefer every major city in the States as well.

People clearly don't enjoy Dublin and come back, as evidenced by Dublins decline, closing down businesses, pubs, restaurants and the whole defacto reason of why it needs an action plan and consultations on how to bring life back.

Sure we are ranked in the top 5 or top 7th(I forget which) safest country in the world. That's out of every country in the world. So that's pretty good if you ask me. Icelands the 1st and wins that spot every year.

1000 extra guards? How in the name of jaysis is that going to happen? They are leaving in big numbers. Their wages isn't enough to live in Dublin! Are these guys on crack?

Maybe the bad actors should go get a job somewhere else then. Not out fault if they can not get jobs in Dublin because they are bad actors.

Fairly enlightening on how the local residents and business owners feel about the city centre. Awful lot of people feeling unsafe apparently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,339 ✭✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Yeah the survey of 500 residents and business owners around Temple Bar showed that 74% felt unsafe. All depends on how it was worded I guess.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

I think the guy running those coffee shops on the quays said they will release the report this week, so we'll know more then. He had some interesting stories. Certainly wouldn't like to be encountering that whilst trying to run a business.

ive seen first hand around Dublin 1 what happens during the day and weekends - friends own a business in there. ive seen the cctv, ive been in their shops, its fuking vile what goes on - no other city would tolerate. they've been shoplifted a few times, expensive items. they cant lockup the doors, nobody will come in. Security not an option full time, they cant afford it.An innocent person got robbed and bet ot hte ground this week not far from them. they've even had ppl locked in the shop when the sh1t hits the fan outside. they cant heavily intervene with these scum, as they will smash their shop up or worse, set it alight.

i commute through the city a couple of times a week, seen it all.

cops have their hands tied, or so they say. scum walk around freely with masks / balaclavas on, more scum ride electric scooters and robbed motorbikes carrying knives. there have been guys assaulted on motorbikes, attempted bike jackings and multiple assaults while these scum rob motorbikes / scooters at will.

you are deluded if you think the city is fine. tell that to the countless irish and visiting tourists who've been assaulted and worse over the years, petty theft etc. is this balaclava mask thing accepted across europe etc?

A lot of people go on about Temple bar and Talbot street being unsafe but I just don't see it. Parts of the city are run down and you see a lot of homeless people and drug addicts. Is that what is making people feel unsafe?
