just a dump of text and no original thought behind it.

“Trump derangement syndrome” is a coping call used by Trumpers to convince themselves that valid criticism of Donald Trump is “deranged” and therefore can be completely ignored out of hand and not necessary to factor into one’s thinking. Hence how the cult keeps its membership

    In other words:

I do love how the American President is decided on betting odds, it means anyone worldwide can affect the outcome with a $1 bet. /s

So which betting company certifies the result?

Totally ignoring the fact that the question was about his election claim that they had come to Washington to support two months after the Biden election result was in and his V/P was going along with the Chief Justice to swear Biden into office.

4 individual gamblers (rather, 4 accounts) dropping $30M on the election have decoupled the odds from anyone’s chances of actually winning the election.

    Per WSJ:

The accounts betting big on Trump—Fredi9999, Theo4, PrincessCaro, and Michie—were all funded by deposits from Kraken, a U.S.-based crypto exchange, according to Arkham. They behave in a similar fashion, systematically placing frequent bets on Trump and stepping up the size of their bets at the same time, Arkham found. The oldest of the accounts was created in June, while the newest was created this month.

The accounts have plowed most of their money into straightforward bets on Trump’s winning the presidency, but they have also put millions of dollars into bets that he will win such swing states as Pennsylvania, as well as long-shot bets on Trump’s winning the popular vote—smaller side markets also available on Polymarket.

Considering eg. Musk burned billions devaluing Twitter just to use it as propaganda, and has spent $75M on running Trump super PACs, how Thiel spent $30M buying a senate seat for JD Vance, etc you’d have to be a really foolish gambler to believe these 4 accounts, clearly in collusion, are actually expecting a return on their bet.

Though, if you want to believe the odds at the gambler markets are a true reflection of the probability of him winning I highly encourage you to max out the credit cards putting your money where the mouth is, y’all.

Plainly, the bets are a manipulation of the betting markets, which are a poor indicator of outcomes (and always have been)

It smacks of manipulation of the betting markets for sure, and with the likes of Polymarket also tracking cryptocurrency bets you’ve got plenty of Elon-bros who can also lean on the results rather easily.

Much like the increase of GOP leaning polls coming out, I suspect all of this is designed to both set up the narrative for the next #StopTheSteal, but also in itself as a campaign tactic. Touting numbers showing a Trump win might depress the Dem vote and keep the MAGA voters onboard. They may all be based on total fiction though, which is why old fashioned voter-engagement is as important this time as it always has been.

Peter thiel is a part owner of polymarket and has history of working with Cambridge analytical to manipulate data to mess with elections. So I assume he is always manipulating data via his companies to further his own ends whatever they may be. In this case though he funded JD vances senatorial campaign and apparently is who is majorly responsible for getting him in the ticket so I'd consider any polymarket data as complete horse sh1t.

It is his jacket not a towel. It is weird he doesn't know how to sit down while wearing a jacket though.

Ah I can't remember how to link from twitter, I don't use it so it rarely comes up. It shows Trump sitting down at the interview and sitting on his jacket.

I agree, I didn't think it was a discussion worth getting into. There is enough, more than enough, to criticise about him without inventing random stuff like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,934 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

I think the problem there might his weird taste in suits and insistence that they be larger and baggier than most other people would normally desire

Thanks for the correction. I'll add your correction in as a link on my comment.

Hard to believe a man who's lived his entire life in a suit...

Doesn't know how to sit in one 🤦 I mean it's not a puppy mat but, if anything? It's a damning display of a lack of basic cop on & competence. A display of a lack of self care or consequential thinking on his part.

Ref the betting on the candidates, is it usual that pollsters should take into account the percentage of bets being made on which candidate is the better when reaching conclusions on the early ballot vote results, instead of using their poll-scoring systems to actually reach figures, state by state, that show how the candidates are receiving ballot-votes to move forward to win the election? The betting is primarily a money-making exercise for the bookies and the gamblers and secondly, only then taken to be some sort of star-led guide to the election winner.

Ask a bookie which system would he place his bet on to estimate who the ultimate election winner would be and I reckon he'll say the gambling route would be a fools game over a poll of the voters. He wont refuse to take bets on the outcome though as it's the way he earns his living.

He’s sitting on his jacket so his nappy doesn’t leak on the sofa. It’s an easy way for him to avoid talking about his violent, amphetamine-induced diarrhoea.

Donald has clearly lost he is now talking about a dead man's manhood in the golf showers, it's time someone told him enough is enough, go home to Merde de Lardo, get your divorce sorted and become a recluse with that other nutter, Laura Loomer.

Trump has objected to the Dems and Harris displaying him as a target in their election Ads making a link with the assassination attempt on him but has no objection to forming his right hand into the handgun emoji while saying "Harris, you're fired" at the same time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,408 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

Essentially a bookie earns money on the difference between the odds and the overall odds being slightly favourable to the house, they don't care who wins, just that the bets on harris would cover a trump win and vice versa (promotions and marketing and other bets which may cover certain wins and losses from the same or related events aside).

Betting markets, if not manipulated, can be an insight into polling, but not when people are putting bets on purely to move the market to make it look like their candidate is favoured.

It also doesn't work if one side is more likely to place a bet.

people are putting bets on purely to move the market to make it look like their candidate is favoured.

I don't really see the advantage of this as long as the preferred candidate is in reasonably close contention. It seems to me the best place for your candidate to be in the betting market in order to maximise his vote on election day is marginally behind…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,805 ✭✭✭✭banie01

A lot of the bets are on intra-day polling performance and lead rather than actual result on November 5th.

Bets placed on who leads and that favoured "spread" type bet of the Yanks are what is driving the market pricing currently rather than who wins come election day.

Least there's a bit more meat on the bones compared to the likes of 'Trump being given a towel to sit on so he don't **** on the Fox sofa'……but you're ok with that, and all the other childish link dumps
