St Pats could nick this yet.

3 very winnable games for them. Of course it would mean the 3 above them all dropping points, but it could happen easily with Derry and Shels. It's Rovers they would have to hope wouldn't win their 3 games.

Would be some story to see SK and his team come up round the outside to steal the title.

Too many variables really for it to happen. At least one of the top 3 teams will have enough points (surely) to outpoint Pat's although they have a chance of Europe, but Pat's also have some really tough games coming up

It's getting to squeaky bum time, so I'd like to take this opportunity to wish everyone's team the best of luck*

*except Sligo, Derry, Galway, Pats, Shels, Bohs, Dundalk, Drogheda, Waterford, and Bohs again coz they're Bohs.

😂 Rovers will have their full allocation up in Drogheda no doubt tomorrow night. Was always a good place for a few sherries after a game up there

Pats have Galway at home, very winnable

Derry at home, very winnable the way we are playing

Sligo away, yes a toughie, but would hardly be a major shock if they won that too.

Admittedly that would be 9 consecutive wins, which is always a hard ask.

I think tomorrow night is ultimately the most decisive one. I’d consider it a given that Derry will win, but it’s Rovers’ biggest banana skin for me of the remaining ones.

If Rovers even draw in Drogheda and we manage to beat Waterford, then the conversation would rightly shift towards whether we could actually win the title with a game left. Whereas if Rovers win and we don’t, then Rovers really just need to win 2 games that they should win and they’re probably champions.

Although, there’s absolutely a scenario where we both slip up, and all negativity in Derry goes right out the window.

A lot depends on whether Shels beat Waterford tomorrow. If they do it probably rules out us and Galway regardless of which of us wins. As we'd need Shels to slip up in both of the last two matches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,524 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Yeah, you and Galway are requiring multiple slip ups and pretty much a perfect finish. This is the season of kindness in terms of offering up opportunities, but surely one of us, Rovers and Derry takes the initiative from this point out.

The way this season has gone, it’s hard to see any side winning 9 games in a row. If Pats manage that, fair play to them, I think tomorrow against Galway will be their toughest remaining game.
It really is the season that nobody wants to win the title!
Shels/ Derry really let it slip, Rovers chave long through late on also.
Im still hopeful of 4th for Galway and a cup win for Derry, that’s realistically as good as we can hope for now, but last Feb I’d have been delighted to not be involved in the playoffs, and we’re over that now!

In their defence, its 2 from 10, still chronic though.

Jesus, I didn’t realise Waterford’s form was actually worse than ours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,186 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

Waterford are a better side than them form figures also, not sure if they have suffered with injuries etc

    Current betting on paddy power

    Rovers 13/8

    Derry 2/1

    Shels 9/4

    Pats 9/1

Nothing between the top 3, Pats worth a punt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,186 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

Pat's should be closer to 50/1 imo. They not only have to get results from difficult games but also rely on 3 good teams slipping up. Not gonna happen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,107 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

I have a tenner on each of Rovers at 13/8 and Pats at 10/1. so if either win the league I profit.

Obviously I'd rather only have the €6.25 profit of a Rovers win.

    Rovers

I've said it from way back that this will go to the last day. Still plenty of twists to come and tomorrow could be the most decisive night. It will be a very tough game in Drogheda and I dont care where they are in the league.

Derry are bottlers and dont want the Champions to be a team that lost to a Gibraltar side in Europe. Plus McEleney is a cheat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,020 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Gotta laugh, you'd think McEleney was the first ever player to dive in the LOI.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,477 ✭✭✭topmanamillion

I'm not convinced it's going to be all that tight in the end. Derry and Shels are going to pick up feck all points in the run in. If Shams can do better than that they'll win the league.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,020 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Well they have to pick up some points, as they are playing each other.

Waterford have switched off for the season, if Shels can't get a result from that tomorrow then they really don't deserve to win it out. We battered them down there a few weeks back in the second half and it was all about mentality and who wanted it more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,477 ✭✭✭topmanamillion

A point, they're guaranteed a point from the last 3 games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭waynescales1

That dive was a disgrace and deserves to be brought up again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,422 ✭✭✭trashcan

I think the top 4 will win tonight, leaving it as you were, but with less opportunity to overtake.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,186 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

Nah, league is too volatile, at least 1 side will slip up. Shels & Derry can't be trusted to win, regardless of why they are playing

    EDIT

8/1 on all 4 winning tonight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 358 ✭✭srfc d16

I've changed my mind on it so many times but at the moment I think Shels will win it. I think they will beat Waterford tonight and I think Rovers will beat Drogheda. If Bohs take something in Sligo it is extremely hard to see Drogheda catch Bohs and they may have an eye on the cup final and playoff game which could make next weeks game between Shels and Drogs a bit easier for Shels. I think Derry lose or at least drop points to Pats and that would mean they cannot catch Shels and may rest players for the cup final. The caveat there would be if Derry are in danger of needing points to get Europe guaranteed before the cup they may need to go all out against Shels on the final day.

Whatever happens it will be fun and more than likely every prediction I have just made will be incorrect

It's going to be a very important set of matches this evening anyway, with some very tense crowds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,186 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

Thankfully Virgin have Shels on tonight. RTE's coverage in general this year has been pretty sh!t. When you consider the amount of games they show that the majority of people gives two fcuks about (Ladies national team) they really should be investing more money in to showing at least 1 game every couple of weeks (at a minimum)

Virgin are showing goals as they go in from all the other games too

Nice one, although these days it's not really needed other than to see what the goal was like.
