It was micro-drizzle. I socialised with my new rep buddies in the porch and offered them tea, which they declined since I guess they’d targets to meet. Id imagine its a pain of a job! Anyways….back on point:

    Standard Electricity

Electricity - Switched to Energia Electricity: 23.61 per unit (Considered FloGas Certa Offer Fixed @ 23.44 Standing Charge almost €20 higher, €50 exit fee, not too bad).

Gas - Switched to SSE 8.24 per unit variable (Fixed btw has a €100 termination fee).

    🙂

Whats the best dual fuel offer right now ? Thanks.

I am with BordGais and contract expiring 20 Nov. They are offering €50 credit with estimated annual bill of €2841 on smart duel fuel.

I checked Bonkers and Yuno smart duel fuel annual is €2359.

Is Yuno worth a try for a year? Any issues with them?

With a little discernment the Yuno reviews on google & trustpilot will give you an idea 🤔 Their usage ‘forecast’ has caused issues.

    They vary from a repetive

    “…… was amazing/good listener/communicator”

to the other end of the spectrum

“They say that Labour or a kick in the balls is the worst pain ever…..” 😅

I saw the reviews and wanted to get opinion from Boardsies.

As long as they don't overcharge units, I woud be happy to go with them.

Have annual average usage of 12600 kWh on Gas and 4000 kwh on elec. Currently with Bord Gais and crunched the numbers and for me Electric Ireland had the best saving of approx. €330 per year (going on the new elec rates from Nov 1st). Most of that saving is on electricity with only a slight saving on Gas, it also includes the €100 welcome bonus.

I have a Smart meter but have been on 24hr plan with BG as when I ran the numbers the split rates worked out worse. Interestingly, when I went to switch to EI tonight ('Home Dual +Saver 30%), the below optional tick box on smart insights popped up. I clicked 'No thanks' as I thought it was like an optional marketing thing but then it said they couldn't offer me the plan and instead wanted to move me to another plan that had slightly higher unit rates and a reduced welcome bonus.

    Nobody overcharges units.

You will almost certainly regret going to them.

Yuno are pre-pay Pinergy under a new name.

They will take a generous first estimated meter reading & then charge that amount with "level pay" for rest of your contract term. It will then be a battle to get the overcharge amount back from them. Avoid....

run away it’s all smoke and mirrors, the negative reviews are there for a reason

    The internet isn’t for everyone

think you were trying to sign up to dual with the smart meter option. change to standard & the bonus is only 50, energy saver dual.

that screenshot will pop up again though so look out for it. that's how you've all these people unaware they've enabled the smart meter features, it's a sneaky one

What is the issue with moving to a smart tariff? I'm aware that once you move to a smart tariff, you cant go back to 24 hour tariff. I recall this time last year, the smart plans didn't offer any value. But now when I look on energy pal, many of the the cheapest options presented to me appear to be smart plans.. So i'm leaning towards switching to one of those…

    Am I missing something? thanks

Thanks. I will avoid them so.

I have a smart electric meter, do they over estimate in this case? And the gas meter is the usual old style.

Yuno require a smart meter for all electricity plans. They should be able to bill exactly per your usage monthly/bi-monthly but instead take your money into credit as outlined above.

Its been mentioned so many times here before.

If you have smart meter, even unactivated one, go to ESB Networks site. Register account with your MPRN. Download your meter data hdf file.

Go to EnergyPal website. Upload your hdf file and filter by last 12 months. Pick cheapest plan suggested.

    Gas:

If you use <7000kwh of gas per year, Bord Gais plan with €50 cashback is cheapest

Over 7K units, SSE gas plan is cheapest

that's really it, can't change back. they'll suit a lot of people, especially if you've an ev + solar. one of the downsides is you've to manage your use to get the most out of them or if your meter has bad connectivity i think it limits your choice of plans, no ev or weekend rates

Surely you can go back to a 24 hour rate after moving to a smart plan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,625 ✭✭✭batistuta9

no not traditional 24hr plans, it changes you meter configuration code (mcc on your bill) when you go on a smart plan, this ties you to smart tariffs.

you can get a 24hr smart rate though with some suppliers not sure if they all have it. so how big an issue it is now or in the future is up to the individual

“If you accidentally sign up to a smart meter tariff you can't revert back to the standard tariff you were previously on, you’ll only be able to switch to another smart meter tariff going forward.

It's also important to note that if you choose to enable smart meter features when signing up for a new tariff, you are still signing up to a smart tariff so will not be able to change back to a standard tariff either. “

& make sure you use the same amount of electricity in the exact same time periods you did the previous year otherwise it's gak 😁

joking, but it is one people don't take into account that it is retrospective. & if you do go to a smart plan you'd potentially save more moving your use

I've moved to a smart plan after being on a 24 hour rate. I was just making sure I can go back to a 24 hour rate if I think it's worth it in the future.

EnergyPal seems to be the best way to guage options with Smart Meter. There’s a big push to switch to smart meters -adverts suggesting you can make savings and monitor your use. Good to have some data to look at-changing usage habits can save money for sure , in that way it can balance out in your favour. Bizzare, however that unit rates tend to be marginally higher.

    An aside:

I had an electrician out to prepare for a day/night meter install for an elderly relative (grounding rods etc) The wiring was so old in her house that he advised not to proceed without a full expensive rewire of the house. That surprised me! Also, strongly advised to decline smart meter…when the time comes & if it were insisted upon, to have esb n. sign a legal form that they’d be responsible should any incident arise as a direct result of having a meter installed.

Have to disagree here - I have been with Yuno a few months, yes its prepay based on your previous usage - I am a low user of electricity so I got them to change my first payment based on what I usually use. The rest of the payments were based on what I had used the previous month. I find it very handy, monthly payments, and you can see what you are using in the app. I have also read my own meter weekly for years, Yuno on the smart meter using no more units than esb ever did with the old type. I am very happy with yuno as a rural user.

As a Yuno user for the last 6 months I have had no issue with them overcharging the units, and I am happy with them

Yep, I just tell them all it’s my policy to not sign up for any service on my doorstep,

Yeah it is a bit unclear. I think part of the confusion is due to most providers asking you to select the meter type you have. I have a smart meter but I'd actually need to select 'standard meter' if I wanted to use a non-smart plan with my smart meter. They don't make it clear you can have smart or non-smart plans with a smart meter.

When I use energy pal I get a mix of smart and standard plans close to each other so it's not clear smart will be the cheapest for me each year. Nevertheless, I think I'll jump in anyway as there's usually a smart plan within ~€100 of any standard plan. This year it just happens to be the smart plan that is cheapest.

I was just making sure I can go back to a 24 hour rate if I think it's worth it in the future.

You can't. You're on a smart tariff forever.

Some providers offer a smart tariff that mirrors their 24 hour tariff.

If the provider you are with offers a smart 24hour rate you can switch to that one but you cannot just switch back to a tradional 24 hour rate. So the answer is it depends on your provider's smart options.

What's the difference between a traditional 24 hour rate and a smart 24 hour rate.
