DLP Role

Quick question-- can't find the answer anywhere.

If the Principal is away on business, or unavailable etc, the role of Designated Liaison Person is transferred to the 'Deputy' DLP. This is straightforward.

However, what happens when both are away-- or in bigger schools, when the entire Senior Management team are 'elsewhere' -- who holds the role? In case of emergency, what happens? Thanks in advance

So the most 'senior' AP1 is the de-facto DLP?

Yes, all teachers are mandated etc; it's the chain of command I'm interested in. Sometimes 'everybody' and 'nobody' can be in charge at the same time -- it's Ireland after all.

Yes next AP1 in the very rare event that all senior management are absent which is rare. I would think and if it did happen the coincidence of a child protection issue on that very day.

Thanks for info; it is relevant as the NAPD conference is this week and I am aware of a school where Principal and all 3 deputies are attending, with 'others' filling in for the absences

That's a definite gap worth questioning, surely they could attend on different days.

Schools employ a lot of local arrangements around these issues. It's not that unusual for all senior management to be out of the building in some schools, unheard of in others.

Not in my school it isn't!!!

In reality it should be the most senior AP1, or to have it on rotation between the AP1s but that needs to be communicated to them prior to the absence (assuming the absence is planned), so the AP1s know who is in charge, but also so do the teaching staff, so they know who the point of contact is if there is an issue.
