Can we have that discussion on the Champions League thread please, it’s nothing to do with VMTV.

Which reminds me, I watched the CL on VM2 play last week, great HD stream, but when Ruben Diaz got a Yellow Card at 33 minutes, the Card was pink. Is that a glitch in the VM stream, or my VMplay app, or is Ruben not telling us something? Maybe it was intended for Jack Grealish. Unfortunately VM don't have Catchup rights, so I couldn't replay it and get a freeze frame.

Odd that VMTV don’t have catchup rights but RTE do.

There are 1 minute catch-up highlights of selected Champions League games on VM Play if that's what you mean?

Virgin Media More have been replaying all the matches in full (the 12 games that VM2 and More showed live) as well over the past week.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 12,689 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

No, I was taking @deezell as saying that the games aren’t available as full replays on VMTV Play (which they don’t appear to be - just the one minute highlights you mentioned, plus the UCL Show).

RTE on the other hand has its full coverage still available on RTE Player - in fact, they’ve games all the way back to last February still there!

It would want to be a really shyte game if you could condense its essence in one minute of play. It's a bit like the old Monty Python gag, where one of them (Cleese?) issues the instruction, "Summarise Proust". I must look it up.

Golf isnt very popular on Virgin (Python fan will get that one)

Will they ever bloody well put VM3 in HD on sky? The football is on it tonight. Even their HD isn't great . It's almost a blur in SD.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,252 ✭✭✭deezell

It was on ITV HD on d'Satellite, if you have sky from a dish you should have that. If you prefer the VM commentary, it was on VM play in HD.

Latest Keano quote gem, when lambasting England's new style which defensively cost them the match, Ian wright scornfully prompted, "with freedom". 'Exactly' said Keane, ' it's the new Garlic Bread'. I presume garlic bread was the new Prawn Sandwich.

Yeah. In this case I wasn't watching the England game, but the highlights of the other games after it.

"Coronation Street and Emmerdale will now be available to watch first on ITVX each morning.

Fans of the long-running soaps will be able to stream episodes from 7am, ahead of their usual broadcast on ITV1."

I don't suppose Virgin Media Play will be doing the same?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,157 ✭✭✭iseegirls

They've used Virgin Media More to broadcast programmes that are on ITVX, but not yet aired on ITV1,2 etc.. previously. They could put them on at anytime during the day there.

Although I'm not sure if VM want to stop their never ending repeating of such shows like Sport Stories, UCL Defining Moments, Messi Greatest Matches, Classic 6 Nations matches which were all mainly produced in 2020 as Covid fillers - but are still rolled out daily on the channel.

VMTV will axe 2 episodes of the Tonight Show from next week, with Monday's edition being replaced by News Specials and I assume that Wednesday nights will be replaced by the Group Think.

They wrote to the minister citing the RTÉ bail out !

I wonder if they went to the CnaM about this move, I see that TSOCS is still going. I suppose you axe your main Current Affairs show to make the headlines not the 12:30 news or an hour off Ireland AM.

Does anyone know if VMplay works with Nord VPN while abroad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,252 ✭✭✭deezell

I didn't think they had any geoblock in place, and the live streams for the new app are independent of the app, they were posted here a few months ago

I really hope no political party entertains them in future with extra funding. They are a ruthless private company.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,725 ✭✭✭channelsurfer2

I agree. Their modus operando is to make the cheapest rubbish and say its public service. Most of it like the Garda programme stuff(that they repeated 100 times) was paid for by the Broadcasting fund anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,157 ✭✭✭iseegirls

Very odd move. They could have just removed either of the 12:30 or 7pm news instead. I guess the 3 main bulletins are near repeated reports across the day, so possibly no money saver there. Weekend news maybe dodged a bullet there.

The Tonight Show does get decent ratings, and would be particularly high with a GE coming up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,239 ✭✭✭RoTelly

It is in and out of the ratings, hasn't really been as popular since VB left, it dropped for MC and IY but has been down further since.

Dropping the 7pm news what would they replace it with?

VMTV have very little leeway with what programming they can replace with what.

There’s no discussion of circumventing regional restrictions here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 127 ✭✭Cian59

Anyone able to download the new app to LG TV? The old app has stopped updating programs and I can't find the app on the LG store.

    TV is LG 65NANO816NA

Of course you can be circumvented, and you don't have to be Jewish either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,239 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Sounds like a 90 minute revenge documentary that might have aired on TV3 recently :)

It does, doesn't it? I guess your region would be very unrestricted after that process. Broadband instead of Narrowband. Definitely have only Virtual Privates after that.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 12,689 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

Right. Back on topic please, bans for you both if this continues.

I wonder were they better off keeping The Tonight Show at 11pm, as it originally was for many years until Covid March 2020 happened.

How could they be in trouble? They have a major company backing them, they even renamed the company after them, if they are in trouble you have to start selling shares in liberty global.

TV3 should be doing the opposite to what they are doing.

It makes no scene what they are doing.

Perhaps someone who's worked with them might tell me why they cannot

On lets say Tuesday 19th of November cut programming such as TSOCS and the 7PM NEWS and instead host a general election leaders debate from 8pm to 9pm?
