    I agree

I'm looking for them to build on last weekends performance after the shipping of a huge points in the first 2 rounds & avoid adding to the injury list.

Sign of the times on here how little chat this fixture now generates compared with a few years ago, this place is gone fierce quiet, especially this thread. Lot of good posters have jumped ship...

We've a horrendous injury list so I don't expect a win, we've proven ourselves to be able to go on a run once we get our key players back over the course of a season so I'm not too concerned about early season jitters (but that Zebre match and general defence has been extremely poor).

We used regularly lose or under-perform in games in the league before important European nights from 2000-2008, even when our team was one of the very best in Europe, but you'd like to think this fixture in particular they'll leave it all out on the pitch. Whether that's enough to win we'll see, but that's all you want them to do and whatever after that will be. Our first 15 should be good enough (announcement pending), it's the bench and the last 15-20 is where it'll be in the balance. I hope Ross or Harry starts.

I'd considered going to this but I genuinely can't be arsed with Dublin at all and matches there. Match itself should be a great occasion, fantastic numbers attending which is great to see, good for the league - enjoy if you're going to it!

Good summary there, leaky, I'd pretty much agree with all of that.

Hopefully the Zebre game was a complete anomaly defensively; we've had a couple of games where defence slipped under Leamy but he's always put it right (resulting in best defence in the league last season I think) so you'd back him to fix it, and nilling Ospreys is a good step in that direction.

The injury list is chronic tho… still, I'd rather have it at this time in the season than later on during the knock-outs.

Great to see Nankivell back and Ahern on the bench.

Good to see Ahern back & Nanks wlll be crucial in the centre for us.

Not a bad side considering the sh1tshow of injuries

Light on bench impact in the forwards tho

Surprised to see both Byrnes on the leinster bench when goin 5-3

Great to see Nakivell back, we needed him back. also happy to see Ahern on the bench, hopefully, he'll get a run of games for us now. I thought Shay McCarthy might have done enough to be ahead of O'Brien but it's also good to have SOB available.

This must be a first, a Japanese ref officiating at a game in Thomond Park

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,004 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

First for thomond I think. There was a Japanese ref who did a 20s game in Musgrave recently as well as a game or two in munster schools/youths competitions in prep for that game

    On route to Dublin

Be nice to put the D4 lads back on their box, must be killing them crossing the canal for the day

    Safe travels to everyone

On Route here, stopped for so fuel and tea. Form is all over the place, along with the injury list damped the spirits but Derbys are usually tight affairs. Gotten just chase each point. Take a lossing bonus point and work from there. Stamp out the silly handling errors and make any territory count in the scoreboard and we will be close enough I hope

Embarrassing performance. What excuses will Graham Rowntree now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 606 ✭✭✭CptMonkey

That match was depressing. Ref gave us little. More injuries again. Seems never ending

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 13,223 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

The better team won. Simple as. Rowntree doesn't need excuses.

Not that he he actually ever comes out with them anyways

Tough day in the office. It was always going to be difficult to compete with Leinster’s power, nevermind having to do it with Archer and Scannell (almost) playing 80. I felt like we tried to play too much rugby in our own half and it played into Leinster’s defense hands. It’s risky because a jackel penalty and your defending from 5m out. But the issues in the lineout really hurt us though and we need to be much more clinical from close range.

I’d credit the lads for their effort though, when it looked ominous after Q1. 14 points was the bookies margin going into it. I think the big positive for is was that our midfield looked good in attack. We really need some of the injuries in the forwards to start clearing up, we’re so underpowered up front.

100% agree with this. You could go back 7,8 years and we still had Niall Scannell, Archer and John Ryan in squads when our front-row was still flagged as a problem.

Not too disheartened with that in the end tho, after the awful start. Beirne was great and thought Haley had a fine game. Crowley was excellent in the first half (missed conversion aside) and thought Coombes had a good game too. We had to force it a fair bit, but Farrell and Nankivell have the makings of a very good midfield, you'd hope we'd make things stick a bit better offensively as the season progresses.

Set-piece-wise, the scrum is looking excellent but the lineout continues to be a major problem for us. Which is compounding things because our maul, and particularly set plays off it, look really good.

A mix of emotions. Need to point out that it's very hard deal with Leinster and the talent at their disposal but thought we played really well at times. Crucial moments in attack we chose the wrong option or just panicked. Really impressed with Farrell and SOB. There's green shots there but we really need injury's to clear up and spout wings.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 13,223 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

That was actually one of the better performances in this fixture in recent years, despite the score line. There were some really good performances. We should have scored more than two trys, but as others have said decision making at key moments was off.

Unfortunately though if you cough up a 21 point lead, it's very hard to come back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,415 ✭✭✭letowski

Yeah, Farrell has some really nice ball skills, we were able to beat the Leinster blitz and get to the edges on a few occasions, which is impressive against a Nienbar D and Ringrose at 13. Frustratingly couldn’t convert on a few chances. Jeez the Nanks forward pass I though look really marginal, and maybe Nankivell could have put Ahern in the Hogan Stand corner in the second half too off that Farrell break from midfield.

Just think up front, I really hope Loughman, Scannell, Jager Kleyn and Beirne can stay fit for most of this season if possible. Was good to see Ahern back but the depth just isn’t there unfortunately.

first 20 killed us ….centers look like they could be a force ….crowley stays improving …Beirne is beirne ……we showed good character after that first 20’……one thing that is and has been obvious a while now is that we are very light in the forwards injuries aside .we need props and utility back /second row cover …..ultimately lack of quality options in the pack (Britney/kleyn )aside mean we will ever only do so well

After 15 mins I wouldve taken that result but in the end I was disappointed. There was a lbp there for us. Thought we got little from the ref. Didn't understand jgp knock on not being a yellow but I was at the opposite corner of the stadium.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,552 ✭✭✭JanuarySnowstor

Was surprised how few munster fans were at the game. OK maybe 10k but vast majority were Leinster!

As others have said poor start but overall tried their best. What was Crowley at going for 3pts so far out in first half and then turning down an attempt in front of the posts a minute later! A crazy minute by him imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,567 ✭✭✭niallm77

JGP tried to catch the ball with two hands so wasn't a deliberate knock on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 405 ✭✭ingo1984

when Crowley went for the 3pts from far out was when we had both our hookers off for HIAs.

hard to compete with the Leinster money .

    The sarries/toulon of our time.

Munster played well with what players they had left standing.
