Lovely October day in Galway. Great visibility too.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Very nice autumn day in Greystones. 10.0c atm. The sun makes up for the low temperature.

Is there a time range for when it will be at its best?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,758 ✭✭✭Dazler97

I'd personally say between 8pm and maybe 3am there's already 33% chance in the horizon which is good

Baltic. 1c, real taste of a January morning out there this morning. Hats and gloves were seen out while out for my coffee. People must think i was a bit mental in shorts and half zip top. N Kildare

A very chilly morning in Tralee, but sunny and bright. This has been a good week here.

Have to admit it's a lovely sunny day here in Dublin, although only 12 degrees, so we will pay for this later in the form of a very cold evening. Still nice to see a nice cloudless sky, and there's even a bit of heat in the shade.

Lovely heat in the sun in NCD.

A few weeks of this over winter sporadically would be perfect.

Beautiful autumn weather. Bill Carson must be sitting on a park bench somewhere puffing a cigar enjoying the leaves tumbling down around him.😀

Really nice day in Kerry after a bright chilly start, heard of people locally having to scrape ice off cars in a few sheltered spots today and yesterday .

    Down to 6.0c now

Feels like there's been far more sunshine and calm weather in Autumn than we had in 'summer' despite the significantly shorter days, I'm not a fan of the colder temperatures and there've been a few really bad days here and there but in general the weather's been far better in Autumn overall. More of the same over the coming months hopefully

Another lovely Autumn day. Great for gardening. October has been really nice apart from the storm in the south.

Mace Head still leading a charmed life with only 8.5mm of rain so far. Average is 144mm for the whole month.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

It certainly has been a very dry 2 months on the West coast but Mace Head is a funny station - it's a flat bit of land jutting out with sea all around it - you'd almost certainly get a different rainfall reading 20 miles inland in Connemara.

It's the same with windspeeds, as it's flat and jutting into the sea it always picks up the highest gusts, especially with a NW wind. Handy to know what the maxima are way out west but not really indicative of what West Galway's weather really is like for most people there.

Mace Head usually gets it's fair share of rainfall. 132mm last October at Mace. I find it a very good indicator of what's coming for Connemara. The rivers and lakes are very low for this time of year. I have rarely seen Lough Corrib so low in mid October.

For example, Annaghdown pier is just hovering above the 95th percentile for water levels.

    Realtime waterlevel

Belmullet is similar with only 13mm. Athenry is higher with 22mm and I think a lot of that was in the recent storm. It certainly has been a dry 2 months.
