The only reason I tend to steer clear of talking Trump is because, a, everyone else on the thread has pretty much banged that drum to death so there’s little else to say and b, it’s clear no matter what Trump does or says, it just doesn’t impact where he is in the polls for whatever reason- so why waste energy talking about it?

But for Harris, I was really hoping this would have been a steady rise all the way to polling day and by polling day, she’d have very much out paced Trump - I don’t see that happening and just looking for answers - I thought MAGA was strong but finite in its voter ship which is something that has been said here many a time but obviously it’s not as finite as some people think .

To quote the lad from Dads Army 'don't panic! don't panic!'

The Dems have a huge warchest of $$$. Let's see how they deploy it. Let's also remember that no-one, but no-one really knows what is going on beneath the tectonic plates of the local states.

Obama (and possibly more importantly, Michelle) are being deployed over the swing states from today. The big guns are out.

Do you know what the word "hiatus" means?

    We were never that lucky.

On Tuesday, the experts (highly qualified scientifically trained people using the latest technology to do the jobs they are hired to do) said that the storm was close to the maximum possible that can be physically created within the environment on planet earth.

Do you think they were wrong? Do you think their views influenced Biden's statement? Do you think he was wrong to make that statement on this basis?

Why on earth does this concern you?

Why are you not concerned about education, infrastructure, economic policy, trade and international relations, immigration etc?

By contrast, what does the personal and private choice of a very small and vulnerable group of people have to do with you, and why does it rank so highly in your estimation?

And while you're talking about such procedures,

    1) do you accept unequivocally that 45 has on multiple occasions and continues to do so, repeat absolute lies about kids having same day sex changes in school?

    2) do you accept unequivocally that 45 has on multiple occasions and continues to do so, repeat absolute lies about a female boxer?

Disagree. A lot of NYers (including myself) have a long-term deepseated dislike of James Dolan, owner of MSG, and hopefully Convicted Felon Trump stiffs him big time for this rally.

Sadly I can think of family members who would attend.

They seem to have hidden tampon Tim again after his demolition by Vance last week. I wonder why

Are we at the stage where Trumpers are literally blaming Biden for the weather?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,725 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

hurricane Milton literally holds the world record for the fastest hurricane ever formed and intensified into a category five from a tropical depression.

    What is your problem?

Michael Moore thinks Harris is going to win. He has some cred here, predicting Trump's victory in 2016.

    Yes!

Democrats control the weather, but also apparently Democrats don't control the weather!

Eh, he was on Jimmy Kimmel 2 or 3 nights ago. Do keep up. It's one of Trumps favourite late night talk shows and everything.

Have to say Michelle is actually a great speaker

Possibly because she is not a politician. 😀

    I agree.

    1) they haven't hidden him

    2) he wasn't demolished by Vance

    3) what's wrong with providing students with hygiene products?

I find it a little bit bizarre that Trump fans seem to have an issue with Walz making tampons readily available for students. Like that's just the norm in Ireland. Does menstruation really scare ye that much?

And if certain posters on here were to be believed, the replacement for Biden and the next presidential candidate for the Dems!

(Look how that prediction panned out)

RCP don't apply any logic or filters to their aggregation - They just get all the polls and show the average result.

They don't account for quality , type , accuracy or bias of the polling at all.

So if the DNC or GOP just ran a load of their own polling in a state , RCP would just add the results in without any filter at all.

538 and a few others apply some logic to their overall scoring based on the type of poll and who is doing the poll.

Who knows which is better , but RCP don't even try to filter out potential crud from their totals.

And it's not just students. Period poverty is a real thing. This allowed students (male and female) to take home period products to their mothers and sisters.

I mean, how AWFUL is that?!

I think MAGA is pretty finite, but the GOP is not, and as we've seen even with so many of the GOP politicians themselves (including Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney, when Trump was President), they'll wade in behind Trump so long as their overall ideals are being met. Same with voters; a lot of the population will still vote for Trump as much as they may hate the whole MAGA side of things, so long as the general Republican ideals are met. The party of Christian values and the Law & Order party… and Trump still ends up being their nominee with everything we all know about him.

And so; swing states. States where the votes and margins will always be close, and regardless of what Harris or Trump do in the next month (again, barring something completely wild) they will likely remain close. But Biden won the likes of Pennsylvania in 2020. If Harris was to now try distance herself from Biden, could risk alienating some of those voters. But while you (and all of us) may have hoped for a steady continuous rise until polling day once Harris replaced Biden as nominee, it was always likely to flatten back to uncomfortably close. Again though, look at where the polls were when Biden was the nominee to now, and it can't be denied that Harris herself has put the work in to get the polls back up to this point. The actual votes on election day could show up huge unforeseen margins between them as polls and betting odds can only show so much, but swing states are swing states for that very reason.

One party wants to help those with periods.

The other want to register when people have them.

Anyway, it is always the same with MAGA - nicknames, insults and labels. Never ever about substance.

Tim Walz was also on 60 minutes and done numerous interviews this week, including a viral rally that was co-streamed on Twitch to reach younger voters. Idk where people got the idea he was being hidden, aside from personal ignorances.

This is so silly, but I honestly just noticed how Trump's meanness, bitterness, spite and resentment really has rubbed off on his followers.

What an utterly horrible way to live and see the world.

Give me the hope of the left any day of the week. The right offer none at all.

Which is just weird for a party.

"Vote for us, it's all going to sh*t anyway"

    Good post.

I think it will come down to a very old-fashioned thing; mobilization of your vote. Do whatever you have to do but energize your voters to get off their ass and get down to the polling station (or, increasingly, the drop box).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,449 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

Liz Cheney who is campaigning for Harris, Liz Cheney? She'll wade in behind Trump? I don't think so pal.

What's rather ironic is that these religious fanatics as you call them are the most opposed to helping misfortunates that arrive in their country with little more than the clothes on their back! They are however well able to quote scripture and praise the lord! No wonder the churches nowadays are virtually empty and not before time.

But claiming that democrats control the weather and caused the hurricanes to affect the election isn't dramatic?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,594 ✭✭✭✭Penn

I meant when Trump was President, her votes aligned with Trump's policies over 90% of the time if I remember right. Sorry, I may have mangled some tenses.

My point was, even a lot of GOPers who hate Trump, will still vote for him if they believe he'll advance enough GOP policies.

The betting odds and polls are agreeing, it's a coin flip, it wont be won by attacking the other candidate unless something extraordinary comes out, it will be won by mobilizing the vote in the key states.

Unless the polls are wrong…. and the pollsters whether it will be like the last 4 elections, they didnt capture the obama vote in 2008 and 12 or the trump vote in 16 and 20

    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/us/elections/polls-president.html

    polls.png

From the most recent NYT poll info-

The margin of sampling error among likely voters is plus or minus 2.4 points for the national poll and about plus or minus five points for each state poll. In theory, this means that the results should reflect the views of the overall population most of the time, though many other challenges create additional sources of error. When the difference between two values is computed, such as a candidate’s lead in a race, the margin of error is twice as large.

All the polls have those sort of margin of error, 3-4% either way takes all those swing states, i heard nate silver say this could be a landslide either way.

    Absolutely terrifying
