So my porting saga is over. I got a text from Vodafone at 10 this morning (on my other number) to say my eSIM was provisioned. At least my number is back up and running. I'm surprised that they did anything on a Saturday.

Yeah I have a OnePlus 11 5G, so it might have been me you saw earlier in the thread.

Ive been reading their documents. Cooling off period starts when you activate your sim. So no activation, no service.

But in my mysky it says billing starts automatically if you haven't activated it within 14 days which sounds bizarre if you've not got a service.

I'll ring them anyways on Mon and gather they'll tell me there's nothing to cancel but it will cover myself.

Been with them a week now and haven't seen any issues - 2FA texts working, bank app push verifications working, signal seems OK anywhere I've been.

    Happy enough I think.

signed up for Sky mobile on the website - no issue getting eSIM and filled out the port form. No sign of anything porting though so assume they may not do it on a Saturday.

    Anyone having data issues today?

I've had no mobile data since lunchtime, only ported over yesterday. I spent the afternoon on the phone to customer service trying silly troubleshooting that I had already tried before ringing. Still no data connection tonight.

If you put your phone into Airplane Mode and then back out again that will get your Internet back working again. That worked for me. This happens every day for me since porting over to Sky Mobile.

Pls let us know what they tell you. I have a sim as well that I won't activate based on reading of all the issues people have with sky.

Gomo have matched it re unlimited EU roaming data, new signups only tho.

For anyone who signed back to GoMo this week, what name is on your plan on the dashboard, is it go more 3?

I've tried airplane mode, restarting the phone, re-adding APN settings, nothing seems to work and still no data today.

It seems I'm the only one or is anyone else having issues? It's been 24 hours now

I switched from AnPost Mobile (also uses Vodafone) because after the demise of 3G all my calls were degraded to 2G. Post mobile wouldn't or couldn't implement VoLte, or WiFi calling, so during 2G calls your data is turned off. Just what you need if taking a call and using a laptop on hotspot, or driving using maps. Guess what? Sky is just the same. 5G symbol, but poor data rates in my 'fair' reception area, and poor enough in good signal areas. I've only just discovered this idea of whitelisted phones. I'd purchased an unlocked 5g S21 for this change, it doesnt even offer the VoLte/ WiFi calling menu items which my old S9 did on AnPost Mobile, even if they didn't actually work. Their help pages explain how to turn on VoLte and WiFi calling on phones, but no mention that it's availability is selective. No improvement over postmobile for me unless things change

Where can you see this? :)

EDIT 1: Found it! It's in their T&Cs on allowances, fair usage and roaming. https://gomo.ie/terms/ "6.4A. For Customers signing up from 1st October 2024, the fair usage data limits referred to in this agreement, including in Clauses 6.4, and 6.6 do not apply. We retain the right to take appropriate steps for traffic management, where for example other users are likely to be adversely affected by a Customer’s actions."

EDIT 2: This might make me switch to GoMo if I am being honest, sure the network is probably not as good as Vodafone's, but you aren't locked in a 12 month contract and don't have to deal with the Sky Mobile issues. Along with that it's cheaper than paying Vodafone 20/month to have caps on calling and texts and EU roaming data. I am glad I cancelled and ported out, I knew someone in the market will try and match their offer. The best part is if I join GoMo, I am not locked in a contract, and if Vodafone or Three try and match this offer too, I can immediately switch to them as well!

EDIT 3: Confirmed this with GoMo support, who you know, actually know their product.

just back from a trip to the UK, the roaming was a pain, with Vodafone it would automatically switch to Vodafone uk, it took a age and resets and apn settings to get it to work, then back arrived back in Dublin the same in reverse just wouldn’t switch back to SKY IE right away.

Eir have also updated their prepay 20 euro a month plan offer to offer unlimited data. https://www.eir.ie/opencms/export/sites/default/.content/pdf/terms/meteor/simplicity_offer.pdf

Well spotted EryykTV, surely GoMo 15 plan will include it for everyone already on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 683 ✭✭✭pfftdetail

More than likely, probably just need to update their websites and they haven't had the time yet but they wanted to match the Sky Mobile offer ASAP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,937 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

I suspect us eager T&C readers got to it before they've published their offers. I see eir says it's not enforcing caps for existing customers. Bet GoMo will say it for 15 plan to entice ppl away from 10 plan

In fairness to Sky, while they are having some teething issues they are shaking things up and making the other providers sharpen their pencil a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,937 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

It is indeed great that we're seeing a big shakeup. I do think sky are having more than teething issues however.

EU roaming- I really don't get how they can have unlimited data? Every European citizen will want a GoMo/eir/sky mobile account.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 683 ✭✭✭pfftdetail

Most Irish people don't really go abroad to be honest. They also have roaming period limits, think under EU law they can monitor your roaming usage 4 months in a row and if you spend more time or data abroad than you do in Ireland they can charge you extra.

Pretty sure GoMo and Sky Mobile in Ireland are now one of the cheapest plans in Europe with absolutely everything unlimited both in home and abroad usage with 5G included.

I'd say in the next few months or years, the rest of the Irish providers will follow with unlimited everything and so will every other EU country.

They can truly make everything unlimited now because data is cheaper than ever, and on top of that most people never really use that much data anyways, a lot of people work from home now and barely use data.

I rang and they cancelled my unactivated sim. Had to wait 10mins and said my friend was having awful problems so they didn't keep trying to sell it. It did seem like I was right to ring so id recommend anyone else in my position to do the same to cover yourself

I was in London for a few days last week. Sky took about 5 minutes to connect to a network upon landing but I didn't need to mess with any settings. All worked fine but I did notice that my 3 sim was getting better speeds on 3UK whereas Sky were roaming on EE most the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,254 ✭✭✭Chris_5339762

Sky were roaming on Tele2 for me in London. I had to find WiFi and manually put in the Tele2 Sweden APN data - which was 4G. So no 5G roaming for me.

Anyone know how to turn off voicemail with Sky? Do I need to ring them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 752 ✭✭✭waxmelts2000

Yes, I rang this morning , 50 minutes being passed from team to team in India, I did get the hard sell but after 50 minutes and speaking to 6 different people my patience was wearing thin ! Email received to confirm cancellation
