Pumas get their 3rd try, 10 points in it with 5 mins left

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,204 ✭✭✭✭phog

Thats a penalty try and a YC for the Pumas player, didn't see it live because of buffering

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,204 ✭✭✭✭phog

I actually missed the PT being awarded too 🙈

    36-19 with 3 mins left

Unless there's some magic from the lick off that's the last score of the game to the Pumas

Decent enough performance. Some good showings especially from Culhane who really should get more of a look in with Leinster. Also have to disagree re Prendergast. Thought he looked quite decent. Maybe a bit too trigger happy on the cross field kicks. But a decent performance all the same. Looked better against Edinburgh in the league tho.

Alex Usanov added a lot of impact on the time he was on the pitch.

I didnt expect Kendellen to sound like that!

Building connections on and off the pitch x2. Sexton would be furious!

Usanov. Recently turned 19. He looks promising. I know he went to Belvedere anyone know his back story?

Malahide rugby club is where he started along with Spicer.

Didn't think Prendergast had a good game but that should stand to him. The talent was evident but he definitely got too trigger happy. A lesson in pragmatism is no harm anyway.

Usanov was great. Lots to be excited by there if his scrummaging improves.

    did anyone play poorly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,385 ✭✭✭SqueakyKneecap

I didn't see a huge amount but I saw Prendergast forcing crossfields and missing his mark significantly a couple of times. A game like today is the time to chance your arm.

Biased obviously but thought Aungier, Murray, Devine and Gavin had good outings. Ben O'Connor has a lot of positives with ball in hand but he has a lot of work to do on his defensive side yet. Was very impressed by Ward at times in the second half too. Young Usanov had a super outing.

The Pumas fullback destroyed EI all day.

Prendergast very slightly overcooked a couple of crossfield kicks, which is somewhat understandable given the game was played at altitude. Still good to me that he’s seeing the options. He played well otherwise IMO and generally steered the attack well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 149 ✭✭thePigeon_

The altitude aspect is a good point. To be fair it was very small margins between efforts being successful or not. Awful bounce on the first cross kick denied a try for Ward. Then a couple minutes later he has a bridge pass again to Ward in space which was apparently forward. Looked like there was very little in that but the ref was right there so fair enough. Again a fiercely unlucky bounce ruined what really should have been a beautiful touch finder. Finally the cross field to SOB was a bit too flat but in combination with the other near misses it’s just a frustrating picture over all.

I’m a big fan but trying to look at his game with a critical lens because of the potential there. Whether he starts or benches on Sunday I’d like to see him hold the ball more and focus on putting Gavin etc through gaps. Do that consistently first and it’ll just open up more space for those cross fields.

Rob Russell out of the tour with a hand injury.

George Hadden called up as a precaution for an ankle injury to Mark Donnelly (who is not yet deemed out of the tour).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,331 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Unfortunate for Russell. Was a big opportunity for him having gotten to this point via the road less travelled. He doesn't have the athleticism of a Shayne Bolton that would catch Farrell's eye, so his best chance of staking a claim was probably impressing on this tour, be that through on-pitch performances or attitude in camp.

Probably no harm bringing Hadden in even if Donnelly is ok. Usanov looked absolutely out on his feet at points, huge ask for a teenage prop to play three senior games in 7 days at altitude. Major credit to him that he managed to keep producing effective tackles and carries despite being so gassed.

Next match is on at the moment by the way.

Ireland look like they are about to throw away a 19-0 lead…remarkable they've had that lead to begin with considering its basically been all Wester Force this game.

Where is it on? Can't find it on www.irishrugby.ie

    Edit: Found it at

Like a lot of what I see from this Emerging Ireland side. But we were parked on the WF line for about 8 phases with no penetration. By the time we went wide we actually had no players to pass to beyond 10. Completely shot ourselves in the foot there.

Prendergast just kicked a 50-22 from his own 22.

Ireland with a line out 5m from the Forces line.

What a 50/22 by Prendergast, from our 22 to about 5m out. Poor missed place kick beforehand though. Needs to be nailing those

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,044 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Ireland fail to convert the try. Scrum half anip d off the back of the maul, made it to just before the try line. Edogbo then penalised for taking out a Force tackler off the ball.

His goal-kicking is still too inconsistent. It is the main black mark against him. Though he looked absolutely knackered walking away from it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,331 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

That seemed extremely harsh but never got a replay to confirm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,041 ✭✭✭clsmooth

Fair play to putting that one over. Looked knackered trotting back there too 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,044 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

    Prendergast converts a penalty.

29-21 to Ireland with 10 minutes to go.

Held on in the end. Only saw second half and it was enjoyable. Kendellen and Prendergast excellent

Saw the last 24 mins of the game.

Prendergasts defense has really come on, he was imperious in these minutes
