Entertaining Junior Quarter final between Windgap and Graiguenamanagh in Inistioge earlier which Windgap winning by seven. Graigue played with the strong wind in the 1st half but they didn't do enough to build up the lead they needed with Windgap getting 3 goals to get a one point lead at halftime. Two of the Windgap goals were controversial, their 2nd goal it didn't look like the ball crossed the line from my angle but the umpire gave it and there was a possible off the ball foul in the buildup to their 3rd goal.

Windgap in the 2nd half scored enough points to keep build up a solid lead and even with Graigue getting a nice goal around the 50th minute the lead was always around five points and with Graigue going for goals in the last few minutes, Windgap stretched the lead out to seven points before the final whistle.

Well deserved Glenmore, thought their backs were outstanding in 2nd half and their forwards were out in front nearly all the time. Village went long with every puckout in 2nd half down on top of spare man. Only scored 6pts in 2nd half with the breeze. McDermott held well in 2nd half. Sending off was stupid from Village lad, headbutt in front of linesman. Kenny anonymous when needed most

A sobering day for the Village. Beaten by the better team on the day. Soft goals gave them a glimmer of hope after the sending off but Glenmore did well to keep their cool and see it out.

Was Davy Aylward in goal against Comer or did they drag him in out of the blue after a few mishaps the last day?

While they haven't been threatened with relegation directly the Village have been on a downward trend for a few years now. Whilst they had an odd county final/semi run it often papered over the lack of talent they'd been able to bring through for 10 years or so.

On the a positive note they've got some excellent young players who were good again today. And looking like winning another minor final next week. A year at a lower grade to blood those young lads and probably win it and go on an all ireland run might be what's needed for the club to reset. While I know they won't want to hear that they have a chance now to freshen things up and rebuild.

As we can see now, there is no weak team in senior at the moment who you can say are nailed on relegation certs. Any team getting dragged into relegation scrap are vulnerable. Shamrocks would have had it all to do to beat Glenmore today as well.

Good summary. Critical component for Village is to get rid of that current management team and appoint a decent management group who are capable of developing and coaching those players to play to a system of play that suits them.

Use of the ball today by the Village was awful.

Hard on Cian Kenny, thought he handled a lot of ball and tried to bring his colleagues into the game. Had little support from his senior colleagues. Glenmore by far the better team. Their use of the ball was excellent. The two Waterford boys were wonderful . I thought Dara Vereker no 2 ,Billy Reid no 7 were outstanding and two real prospects going forward. Ian Byrne and young Beirne also above average. Ed Lauhoff and the other youngsters, manogue, Bergin and McDermott showed real promise for the village. Disappointing day for them but its only a matter of time before they get back senior.

Never thought I would see see the day when the Village were relegated. Both sides played better against the wind. Some of the Village supporters around me were doing a victory dance when they got their 3rd goal but in fairness to Glenmore they fought well in the second half. Stupid of Ross Whelan to headbutt, Glenmore player went down easy. Shane Murphy came into the game in the second half and Ciaran Kirwan carried the ball well. Thought a few decisions went against James Stephens but Glenmore deserved the win. They used the additional man well in the second half to bring the ball out of defence. Ed McDermott did well against the wind in winning ball, Cian Kenny wasn't prominent and missed a couple of easy frees.

A very good crowd and a very entertaining match with 6 goals, mistakes, players giving 100%, mentors wound up, a few controversial decisions.

Cody walked off alone at the end. Is this the way the most successful managerial career ever ends?

Cracking game with everything in it in front of a good crowd.

As said both teams played better against the wind with it being slightly easier for Glenmore with the spare man.

That young Verker No 2 was very impressive and has been any time I've seen him…..maybe the modern day type of hurler we need corner back at county level if he can fill out a small bit. The pick of the bunch in my opinion.

What's gone wrong in the village, headless stuff today at times as it was very easy for Glenmore to set up for Village POs. Would it not have been an option to hit the space on either side after 10mins of 2nd half to suit Dwyer/Guilfoyle?

Poor Eoin Larkin involved in a historic relegation for the 2nd year in a row as he was a coach with Rathnure last year too.

I didn't get to see the match today but don’t see James Stephens being relegated as a shock. They have been on a downward trajectory in recent years, narrowly winning the relegation semi final in 2022 and the beating that Ballyhale gave them last year should have had alarm bells ringing.

Kenny cannot be blamed for the loss he works his socks off in every game, Whelans bollix acting didn't help and flying in a player that Cody didn't give much time to with the county was rediculous and really gave two fingers to the rest of the panel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 141 ✭✭mooz

What was Cody complaining about the sending off for? It was a clear red card and he was down berating the ref, then the Glenmore sideline. Poor form

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 141 ✭✭mooz

How did that go last year? Did they survive or were Rathnure relegated from senior?

If anything the last 2 weekends have shown how ultra competitive kk club hurling is every team needs everybody available and 100% fit and in form

Both the shamrocks and the village assumed whether through there tradition and history or just arrogance that they would win last weekend and this weekend

When I truth both have been playing terribly this year and shouldn’t be surprised how there seasons went as they say no team is to big to go down just because your a town team doesn’t mean you stay here playing senior hurling forever

I thought cian Kenny was one of the better players today kept the village in it with his free taking with one monster free in the first half also was he not carrying an injury

On flying players in for games or finals teams do it ever year I wouldn’t have an issue with it it’s happening with years

I wouldn’t see anything wrong with b Cody’s behaviour yes some of it was over the top but the stakes were high today

Some lads are just dying to stick the knife in his back after all the great days he’s given us in Croke park which is a bit sad imo

I'm definitely not one of those JB he really doesn't owe anyone in kilkenny hurling and beyond a thing

Village puck outs were very questionable in the 2nd half. All lumped as long as possible and down where Glenmore had the spare man. Left a lot of space around the middle then for them to work the ball out easily.

Unfortunately very typical of Cody's style when with KK. Sorry to see them go down with Cody at the helm. The 1st City superpower now no longer senior. Not good for KK to see it but they'll be back soon ans could easily be senior champions in the next 5 if they can bring through the talent they have

Cian Kenny had a broken toe according to an article in the Irish Independent

Have to agree with above. I have been around the county last few weeks at different games and find it strange the whole l hope cody is relegated. Don't get it at all.

Glenmore better today especially in second half. The sending off had a bearing obviously but the village must have been delighted at half time and actually looked like they could win the game.

The missed frees from Kenny in second half were very unusual for him. Gave glenmore a lift. He has been excellent for the village last few weeks.

That young verker for glen is a serious looking hurler - l have seen him a few times now and am very impressed. Hopefully he continues his development.Villages puckouts especially second half were baffling. Just lumped it long hoped for the best but glen regained possession most times then built attack after attack from the back which they greatly improved on as the half wore on.

Lots of talk about the village leading up to this game but Glenmore deserve huge credit considering the numbers they would have compared to the village.

He had that since before half time in the last game I believe, seemingly he had an injection at half time.

Obviously the relegation final took a lot of attention yesterday but congrats to both Young Irelands and Lisdowney on winning their Intermediate semis yesterday. 2 close games that were entertaining to watch
