Why does Irish pop-culture media constantly report on "oh look someone mentioned Ireland/Irishness"?

This is just bizarre. Accounts like Joe.ie constantly have these sorts of videos. For example:

<famous person> spotted in Ireland
<famous person> mentions their trip to Ireland
<famous person> mentions their Irish background
Remember the time <famous person> was in an Irish pub
The Brits/Americans/Aussies/French are going crazy about Hurling!!!
The most Irish looking dog of all time! (the was a real story, a video is of a dog, in a flat cap, with a Yorkshire man talking about working in a pit.)

I don't mean just reporting on Irish stories, but reporting about a time another nation mentions Ireland, or an Irish custom.

Feel free to share examples. What is with that? Why?

It's just a non powerful country thing. I've seen the meme (Leonardo DiCaprio pointing at the TV excitedly with the caption "When your country/town is mentioned internationally") pop up with regard to numerous countries, particularly eastern European ones.

Because people read it, and/or moan about it driving further engagement to it. Which gets ad revenue and pays the bills.

Stop reading it and don't moan about it and it'll go away.

It's called an inferiority complex.

Travel a bit and you'll find out a lot of people know SFA about Ireland and lump us in with thr 'Brits' (international shorthand for English) a lot of the time. It can be very frustrating when you've been brought up with how Irishness isn't Britishness being constantly reinforced but we really aren't as important as we tend to think. And with ghat said, we are still quite well-known in comparison to other countries of a similar size or population.

How much media do you consume from other countries?

Do you read Czech, Danish, Portuguese, Nigerian, Peruvian, Filipino, Syrian, Zambian papers, website, social media?

Do you watch TV or listen to radio from Iceland, St Kits and Nevis, Chad, Surinam, Kyrgyzstan etc etc.

If you don't want makes you think that other countries don't do this sort of stuff?

My friend - grew up in London and now lives in NYC, so he's obviously a totally superior being 😆 said "oh you're famous" to me recently because something I wrote was published in a tiny magazine. It's just a thing people anywhere say with minimal seriousness.

I do find the thing in question cringey but I don't see how it's something to condemn all of us, and deem us plebs in general. And as said (but ignored 😊) it's not just an Irish thing. It's a non powerful country thing.
