You don't a clue what you are talking about. Hundreds of military and security officials in the US, including Republicans have endorsed Harris.

there is a neocon segment in the US, what do you expect? the gravy train being turned off would be a horrible prospect for some

Conspiracy theory drivel. Your opinion has no foundation, and no standing in comparison with those of senior military and security officials.

Trump is utterly clueless about foreign policy, and can be easily manipulated by whoever has his ear, and approaches everything from the perspective of his own personal gain. He effectively surrendered to the Taliban.

He was refusing to send Federal help to disaster stricken areas in the US if he thought only Democrats lived there. He cares not a jot about the fate of Ukrainian people, as evidenced by him attempts to hold up aid to them if they didn't try to dig up dirt on his political rivals.
If Harris is a 'lightweight' what does that say about Trump that she played him like a violin?

Trump not winning would be a horrible prospect for some.

Wow. Heavy hitting arguments right there. "as far as I'm concerned" … "I don't buy"… well, ok then. You have me convinced the insurrection supporter is the better statesman.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,544 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

You don't "buy" the compromised argument when there's clear evidence of Trump passing classified information to the Russians? So does that mean you just think he's a useful idiot who does Putin's bidding out of admiration for a mafia dictator whose death toll must me nearing the million mark? Is it as simple as you're a racist or sexist who couldn't bear to see a woman of colour in the oval office? Or is there anything approaching a logical reason for your support of Trump?

Does he have to start dancing Swan Lake while waving the Russian tricolour before you'll "buy" that's he's a traitor to his nation who's in the pocket of said maniacal dictator?

It's not like he's some CJH figure who's a brilliant leader if you can look past his corruption (I never could myself but your mileage may vary). Trump is a dangerous, volatile, stupid, charlatan whose only loyalty is to himself.

I don't agree with your assessment of Harris as a lightweight, but even if we were to accept it as true, I'd still vote for the honest, principled and well-intentioned lightweight over the dishonest, self-serving, dangerous idiot.

how is it working out for the US? 25 years of failed wars and ballooning debt , not agreeing with is not a conspiracy just pointing out that they havnt been well guided imo.

Biggest economy in the world, that’s how it’s working out for them.

It's not CT drivel .... US neocons were responsible for the illegal invasion into Iraq, by creating false evidence as a pre text to go to war... Its actually pretty well documented.

Liz Cheney is a Neocon, endorsing Harris. Who would have thought that would ever be possible. That's how utterly uncapable Trump is to be president

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,854 ✭✭✭✭silverharp

whats that pesky national debt running at now? near $26trillion and ballooning interest payments to boot , Im not sure what your point is, the question is are they doing everything to sustain their position as number 1 or do they risk losing that position much like the brits after ww2 somewhere down the road, even if they keep the number 1 slot their hegemony seems to be weakening , its not like old times.

You still playing that tired and broken far left “but but whataboutism USA foreign policy” record?

Ukraine war is dragging on needlessly precisely because the US doesn’t want to get involved (and they are busy with domestic numpties) and Europe is dragging feet despite the existential dangers to us in Europe

Middle East is on fire precisely because US abandoned its interventionist foreign policies where both its enemies and “allies” in region simply ignore the US presidential proclamations these days, and once again Europe which not only supplies weapons to region but has a much larger volume of trade just looks on and tut tuts

Some people like our president are still stuck in the Cold War era mentally and are unable to accept that the world “order” has fundamentally changed now to “disorder” that no one wants to waste their men and money policing it, while criminals like Putin and Islamic terrorists want to exploit

Are these neocons in the room with you now?

Seriously it’s 2024 not 2004, you would think you just woke up after being asleep for last two decades

And it's pretty safe to say electing a leader who admires tyrants such as Orban and Putin is more likely to have a long term negative impact on the US. He's already said he doesn't really care if Putin invades places that he doesn't view to be spending enough on defence.…

So nah, he's not gonna keep Putin in check and he will hand Putin whatever he wants. Posters such as yourself don't seem to mind about the genocide from such a false peace.

Yes they did. And when was that? Do you see them doing that still? Do you see anyone else doing that sort of thing? Because if you apply the "hurt me once, burnt forever" strategy… oh boy oh boy, do the Finns and the Vietnamese have news for you… And whatever you do not get a Paraguaio started on how South America is filled with "horrible, despicable" people.

Best if you dispense with all the "isms" especially German isms - those tend to talk about "People" and "Dictatorship" and also try to convince you that between those two, the People is the operative word. Right. Don't deal in such absolutes. You'll have a clearer mind and you'll be able to change your position faster when the facts change.

All 'liberations' concern assets. Land, Gold or Slaves. Or some other resource that thy neighbor craves. There has never been a different motive. If you pay attention, there are plenty of examples in current news.

Has the war ended? There's been no news on Ukrainian progress in about 30 posts and this thread is usually very helpful (especially for those of us who don't speak Russian) to piece together whats going on.

it’s combined with the failure of globalisation. Big business tried to sanitise Russia and China using sporting events and the like to espouse the new potential of BRIC markets. In the case of Russia and China ignoring the fact they despicable regimes. The mask slipped and the western companies are trying to untangle business models from China and most have exited Russia.

There’s certainly a dearth of news about the war. Okay, I admittedly only checked ntv Nachrichten, a German news station, but their live ticker only contains one actual “operational” event, and that’s a report about an overnight drone strike in Voronezh region. All the other messages are political posturing and background information.

There’s not much on other news sources either, although I admittedly haven’t checked X/Twitter yet. It looks like the escalating Middle East conflict is dominating the news, and that’s one hornets’ nest I’m staying well away from. I can only handle so many crises at once…

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

That seems to be an air to air attack. You can see the second jet veering off to the right after the missile is fired.

It looks like history is starting up again.

strangely, the lead aircraft took no evasive manoeuvres. Accidental release of armaments (fat fingers?) or deliberate fragging?

Or the lead aircraft didn’t know they were being followed. Accidental fire seems the most plausible.

Only small gains in recent days for Ukraine from what I could see in the media.

    https://united24media.com/latest-news/ukrainian-forces-capture-strategic-gas-platforms-near-snake-island-video-2811

The losses of putin's terrorist forces seems to be at a steadily higher level since the Kursk offensive by Ukraine so I get the impression that their efforts at attrition of putin's forces offensive potential is going well. Particularly good number of putin's terrorist's artillery systems eliminated yesterday.

Looks like it wasn't a plane, but a super duper drone worth $15m.

Bit stupid if there testing it over donesk part of Ukraine. You would think more over eastern Russia would of been doing their testing unless they wanted to have it testing somewhere near front line conditions.

Saudi Arabia should be support Ukraine more, they're on their side, have given aid in the past, but surely they should be going a lot more, as in 500 billion

The Saudis only like spending money on luxurious mansions, drugs, hookers, alcohol and flash cars for themselves. (all of this usually done in western countries!)

    The-Combination-of-UAV-S-70-and-Su-57-Turns-the-Latter-Into-a-Fighter-of-the-5-Gen.jpg

That's very much an untested prototype and has not been used before on actual combat missions. The concept of the is very interesting. It's designed to be an auto-piloted "loyal wingman" of the piloted Su-57, Russia's most advanced fighter aircraft, and stay on its tail defending its rear and carrying more bombs/missiles. It's a very rare piece of kit and only around 3 prototypes in existence.

Reports are that the Russian Su-57 shot it down deep into Ukrainian held territory. The theory is that it was on mission to accompany the piloted Su-57 and fire its missiles somewhere near the frontline but became unresponsive. The Russian pilot followed it into Ukrainian held territory to destroy it to prevent it being captured by the Ukrainians and shipped off to an American lab for analysis.

Why they were using this rare and experimental drone, who knows? But its a major intelligence boost for NATO who undoubtedly will sift through the wreckage with a fine tooth comb uncovering weaknesses in the best military technology that Russia can produce. A catastrophic blunder by the Russians
