Just another example of MAGA "Every accusation, is a confession." Of COURSE Convicted Felon Trump would accuse another POTUS of withholding disaster aid based on the voters in the area - HE WOULD (and did, apparently.)

So stupid and so lazy, I still think that was the only thing saved us from worse during 45's term. Another term will be so much worse.

The centrist choice eh? Only provides disaster relief to Republican areas.

I’d wonder if/how this would be presented to the electorate via the national news etc…

This perfectly illustrates the main problem with Trump that should disqualify him as an option for most voters. We might bring up his facist tendancies and general incompetence, but the fact shown here is that Donnie could only be coxed into doing his duty if it feeds his ego. He was only willing to do his job if Trump-voters were impacted. He was only going to help his fan club, because his fans make him feel good…about himself.

The leader of 300+ Million US Citizens cannot be a person who’s only motivation is make himself look good in front of a cohort of rabid hillbillies who have in some cases made him their literal messiah.

This is why he called actual Nazies “fine people”. This is why he had Immigrant children stolen from thier parents at the border without a plan to reunite them. Finally, this is why he refused to accept defeat in 2020 and even planned ahead of the loss. Everything he does is about him, and he has nothing to give to the American people or frankly to the world at large.

The Haley Voters for Harris PAC is spending its war chest now, massive ad campaign just launched with multiple commercials talking about tariffs, economics, etc.

Several of the videos are in the link:

    https://www.mediaite.com/election-2024/pro-haley-pac-drops-7-figure-ad-campaign-supporting-kamala-harris-defying-cease-and-desist-from-haleys-lawyer/

The C & D was over the use of Haley's name, which Haley has no special hold of, and the PAC is made of Haley voters, that are supporting Kamala Harris, so QED.

The strategy, Snyder said, was to point out how Harris’ positions “on major issues like fiscal responsibility and closing the border, being tough on crime” were not “radical” like Trump claimed, but actually center-left. Therefore center-right voters could “meet in the center and find some common ground” with Harris, and these ads were intended to help get voters who don’t like Trump but might have never voted for a Democratic presidential candidate be able to take that step this November.

Melania is getting a bashing from the anti-abortion activists. All that remains to see is if Melania will stand by her book and position.

Kristan Hawkins, the president of Students for Life of America, blasted Melania on X, calling her “wrong.”

“Melania Trump’s support of abortion is anti-feminist and clearly outside the teaching of our Catholic faith,” Hawkins wrote. “She is wrong.”

It seems that Elon Musk had supported Ron de Santis presidential campaign financially some years back before RDS dropped out of the race pre 2016 and has supported Stephen Millers organisation with financing for some years now. The question of whether Musk is likely to get a return for his kindness to Miller from the man Miller is a campaign planner and advisor to relevant, seeing as Trump has plans for Musk in any administration he forms if he is elected.

Tina Peters was just sentenced to 9 years in prison in Colorado for tampering with Mesa County election machines. In 2021, she gave a Mike Lindell affiliated 'expert' gain unlawful access to the machines to copy their contents and allowed him back in days later during a secured update of the machines onto a new trusted build. She never denied giving him someone else's credentials to gain entry and falsely introducing him as a county employee.

Her sentencing had been previously scheduled back in August when the jury found her guilty on 7 counts (conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation and three counts of attempting to influence a public servant, official misconduct in the first degree, violation of duty, failure to comply with an order from the Secretary of State). She was acquitted of conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation, criminal impersonation, and identity theft.

Hopefully her sentence will send a chill to all the seditionist embeds in the current elections systems of Georgia and elsewhere this cycle. Peters won't be free again until after the 2032 election, and won't be able to cast a vote again in Colorado until she has served her sentence, the next Presidential election she will get a chance to cast a ballot in will be in 2036. Non-pardonable by Trump in a theoretical 2nd term either, this was a State prosecution. And all for nothing, Mike Lindell's 'cyber ninjas' never found a lick of problems with the vote.

The Harris campaign won't be thanking Biden for his strangely casual quip today about Israel striking oil facilities which put global oil prices up 5%.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,725 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Are you suuuure it was Biden, and not eg. this lunatic hawking a strike on oil facilities on the Fear Business Network, that millions of day traders tune into? Or Lindsay Graham? Or any number of Republicans who have been urging that very thing?

    https://www.mediaite.com/tv/republican-senator-urges-biden-take-out-an-iranian-oil-asset-despite-fox-host-warning-of-global-market-shock/

Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) spoke to Fox anchor Neil Cavuto following the Iranian ballistic missile attack on Israel this week and urged the U.S. to attack Iranian “oil assets” in retaliation.

“If there’s a, you know, an attack on it, as Senator Graham has been talking about, on oil assets in Iran, which I support, by the way, or if there are further sanctions that would actually be enforced, frankly, if we were just…” began Cramer when asked Wednesday about possible U.S. actions following the attack.

Cavuto cut in and asked, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Senator, do you support going after those Iranian oil sources? And I certainly see your rationale behind that. But obviously, the impact on the global oil markets would be maybe something akin to the 1970s. Right? Prices could rocket, right?”

“It could be. No question. Yeah, we’d have to we’d have to do it surgically for sure. Neil, I wouldn’t advocate just taking out everything that they have, but we could start with enforcing the sanctions and maybe go after a refinery or two that is feeding our other enemies,” Cramer replied, doubling down.

Funny you should act like it's not a help to her campaign though, almost like we have a POTUS who isn't deciding how the job is done based on partisan or electoral calculations and scheming.

Senator Cramer is obviously struggling to differentiate sanctions from a blockade

To be absolutely clear, the oil sanctions against Iran don't really prevent it from exporting oil, they restrict foreign companies investing in oil production in Iran and consequently has negative effects on their energy industry

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_sanctions_against_Iran

While I would like to see more direct action against the Iranian government rather than it's proxies (who they view as expendable anyway), I would suggest that causing a global energy crisis is likely counterproductive

Yeah in many ways I think short term supply volatility has also been priced in, at least for Western markets

The bigger issue is to just keep the oil flowing because supply shocks will impact poorer countries more and create further instability

One thing I read recently was that the US has been using their strategic oil reserves to balance out any volatility in the market. They sell some of the reserve when prices are high and buy it back when the price drops

It's a pretty good trick, stabilises the market and turns a quick profit for the Americans

On a side note, it'd be nice if we could get a move on with that switch to renewables

At a state level election event for the downballot race in Idaho, State legislature senatorial candidates were at a "meet your candidates" local forum for Idaho's 6th district: 3 Republicans, 3 Democrats, including incumbent Republican State Sen. Dan Foreman.

Foreman was asked if discrimination existed in Ohio, he said no… and then moments later proceeded to utterly contradict himself as exhibit A: his opponent responded to his denial of discrimination by pointing out the state's weak hate crime laws and noting the Aryan Nations exist in the north of the state. This apparently enraged him and had the sheer caucacity, to clapback at his Native-American opponent, saying quote, "I'm so sick and tired of this liberal b*sh*t! Why don't you go back to where you came from?!" after which witnesses say he proceeded to angrily storm out of the event - perhaps to 'go back to where he came from?'

Boise NPR notes the Nez Perce tribe has lived there for "thousands of years."

    https://www.boisestatepublicradio.org/politics-government/2024-10-03/dan-foreman-racism-idaho-nez-perce-candidate-kendrick

Trish Carter-Goodheart, who the attack was directed at, issued a statement noting several audience members apologized for Foreman's behavior ("it's not the people in the crowd who need to apologize.") She also specifically thanks several women politicians who 'stood with her against this hate,' including Republican candidate Lori McCann.

I don't think it will make a dent in the presidential race, or major waves in Idaho, though I at least hope she takes his seat after this outburst next month, it would be very fitting.

Been policy for a while. Trump did the same thing, despite MAGA pretending like when Biden does it, it's something to freak out over:

    https://www.energy.gov/ceser/history-spr-releases

In fact the reserve exists and the diversification exists because of the oil crisis in the 70s, which was overdependence on Iran etc.

October is going to be full of surprises I think. The New York Times just released photos of Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) doing black face and a Michael Jackson costume. Lawler’s seat is considered vulnerable this election.

The New York Times reportedly obtained the photos, but I don’t see that they have published them. He has confirmed he did it.

He has come scrambling out with apologies and trying to defend his Idol worship of The popstar once acquitted of child sex charges. In fact, it is reported that he was such a fan of Michael Jackson’s that he attended the trial in 2005 and found his way in the gallery. He was removed from the gallery after muttering something audibly under his breath while a witness against Michael Jackson was testifying. It wasn’t reported what he muttered, except that it was reportedly derogatory in relation to the testimony being given. I couldn’t even tell you if that meant that he was shocked by the testimony in believing the testimony or outrage at the testimony because he believed it was false reporting otherwise says about that is it it was Michael Jackson’s biographer that got him a seat in the gallery. from that, I read into it that he was partial to Michael Jackson’s defense.

Worth noting that his Democrat opponent is a black woman, and this will probably shape the fight over the seat for the rest of the month.

with his indoor voice but yeah.

I guess it also turns out she can get out sooner than nine years with good behavior credit. He was quite agitated with her lawyer afterwards for trying to file a motion he already said was not valid.

Not defending that guy whatsoever but was he actually being racist by coloring his face?

He was 20 and dressing up as Michael Jackson. Context is everything.

I'd be holding this guy accountable for his political views first and foremost.

There's a meltdown on my local Nextdoor app of people buying into the lies of the right wing, it's the Hawaii fire all over again, with the right wing panicking victims of Hurricane Helene into thinking that $750 is all they're going to get. Tonight Fox News and other right wing outlets spent all night cheapfaking remarks made by Kamala Harris today to make it come off like the only relief victims of the disaster will ever see will be $750, which is for people's immediate needs, like food, baby formula, diapers, a change of clothes, prescriptions, etc. and people are acting as though they're helicoptering FEMA home inspectors and insurance adjustors into the disaster areas at the same time they are airlifting stranded residents out, it's absurd.

    https://www.mediaite.com/opinion/fox-news-hosts-dishonestly-cut-off-kamala-harris-speech-to-claim-hurricane-victims-are-only-getting-750/

    To wit she said:

“Federal relief and assistance that we have been providing has included FEMA providing $750 for folks who need immediate needs being met, such as food, baby formula, and the like, [Fox News cuts here] and you can apply now, for anyone who’s watching this who has been affected. There are FEMA personnel who are going door to door to interact personally with folks, especially those who do not have electricity. But also that aid, if you have electricity, can be applied for online. I encourage people do that. FEMA will just basically verify your address and the process should take hold. FEMA is also providing tens of thousands of more dollars for folks to help them be able to deal with the home repair, to be able to cover a deductible when and if they have insurance, and also hotel costs. Today, I’m also announcing that the president has approved the governor’s request for 100% federal reimbursement of local costs… Also, we will be covering 100% of the local costs for food, water, and shelter."

FEMA was also forced to post a fact check when conservatives did this hoaxing after the Hawaii fire:

    https://www.fema.gov/node/fema-only-giving-hawaii-wildfire-survivors-700-household

Rumor: FEMA is only giving Hawaii wildfire survivors $700 per household.
    Fact:
This is not true. There is a range of federal disaster assistance available. Critical Needs Assistance provides a onetime payment of $700 to address immediate needs such as food, water and clothing. This is just one of several types of federal assistance you may be eligible to receive. As applications are reviewed, you can check your application status online or call 800-###-#### to find out what types of disaster assistance you are eligible to receive.

As of last year, federal assistance had exceeded $385 million to the Maui fire.

eg. This is the Ingraham program manipulating it's viewers on it's show (@Acyn also shows the complete remarks where Ingraham does not):

The MediaITE article also has the clips from Jesse Watters on The Five, and Sean Hannity on his show, making the same spin doctoring.

Here is here complete press conference in Augusta, per ABC:

The right wing is perverse in the way that it preys on people who have lost everything to lie to them so brazenly when they are not in the mental state to be d*cked around with.

He would contend no, and he hasn't come out making many excuses or half measures about it either though to his credit. He's doing some rapid apologizing for it. He went on CNN this evening and got cross-examined by Kaitlynn Collins over it:

    https://www.mediaite.com/tv/house-republican-apologizes-for-wearing-blackface-not-something-i-would-do-today/

The photo was published in the NYT, and aired on CNN, I missed it earlier, here it is for context. MediaITE has a 6 minute clip of the full interview segment, it's not up on youtube yet.

Constituents will have their chance to weigh in next month, maybe they like his apology and owning up (maybe some of his "MAGA" base will see it as "weakness" to apologize, they're a weird movement). He is emphatic that he is a Michael Jackson fan, that he meant it as complimentary to Jackson, and states he even has Jackson memorabilia on display in his Congressional office, ie. he's a big longtime fan. He contrasts it with other examples of blackface that are deliberately derogatory, of which you can find many examples of in the wild, especially from frat parties, like mocking slave auctions and ****.

I think there's still a good chance this hurts him at the polls, and it's a tight race for that seat, but I think, just as the right thing to do, he's making the right decisions about how to handle this PR disaster for him right now. Collins is firm with him in her grilling but acknowledges his willingness to handle this matter publicly with what I would call candor: he even answered what he muttered under his breath at Jackson's 2005 and what the context was: the alleged victim's mother was testifying that in his words "Michael Jackson was gonna steal her kids in a hot air balloon" to which he muttered "yeah, okay!" and was removed from the courtroom.

I do wonder if his voters will wonder why he didn't volunteer this information sooner though, long before it became a scandal to be used in a month of October.

Oh, I can’t see Melania bothering to do anything much about that. I suspect the book amounts to the “contribution” she’d agree to give the Trump campaign, with the added bonus to her of whatever cash came in from it and counting herself as a published author. (Or whatever you call a person who puts their name on a ghost-written work)

Despite earlier speculation on this thread that the book would project a “softer” image for Donnie, low and behold it looks like it hasn’t done any of that. To boot she’s now pissed off anti-choice extremists…who to be honest will vote for Donnie anyway…so she really doesn’t need to bother to do anything…which again, I don’t think she would either way.

So what we learned (again) today was that the Republican party and it's establishment will happily put their own citizens in mortal danger just to try and get a slight edge in the polls

And some people call Democrats the dangerous ones 🙄
