Probably a bit of a left field question but any advice appreciated…

I am about to book flights for 7-8k / accommodation 4k and car 1k so around 12k euro all in

So, is it worthwhile upgrading my revolut plan so I can make savings by accruing revpoints and any other benefits from upgrading (would have to be metal or ultra to make sense I think)

If I read the T&Cs correctly I can get 1:1 spend / rev points, included travel insurance and no fault cancellation up to 5k euro

Do I need to book direct with the airline or does it matter if I use intermediary?

This is a once off holiday so would look to step back on the plan in 12 months (unless I see the benefit of holding it longer)

If I just use the credit card to book I get nothing but also not locked into a premium revolut plan that could cost me up to 630 euro

Also do all 4 of us come under the premium plan (Metal or Ultra if I upgrade)

Yeah it must be new as I book a Ryanair flight mist months and pay with debit card, never had targeted emails from them before.

As for the price, their algorithm is slightly out as it suggested a hotel for 2 nights when I am away for 3 hence it was cheaper.

    Are you going outside eu?

You get much more Cashback (1%) outside eu so maybe rev points are better also?

If you book the hotel in stays, you will get double the Rev points,so double avios

I'm not sure but I've always took it that accomadation and flights you book are covered by the Rev ultra insurance,I don't know

Incidentally if anyone is looking to opt out then you need to tap your initials in the top left, then go into account and privacy

I've unticked the social media and marketing which should turn most of the trackers off

thanks for letting me know this. I just went in and turned it off

Requiring people to opt out is not compliant with the GDPR. Informed consent is required for such marketing communications.

before our summer holiday, I took a 2-month free trial of Premium, signed up for RevPoints (but had to accept Spare Change, then switch it off afterwards) and got two challenges - spend 2k for 2500 points, and 150 transactions for 3000 points. Easily done buying drinks and ice creams etc for family. That’s €55 worth of avios by my reckoning for a free trial and overcoming the Spare Change trap.

Yeah I'm not sure it'll turn everything off since trackers and data mining are so completely ingrained into smartphones nowadays

I'm seriously considering changing OS to avoid them

Bank of Ireland customer here. Until about a week ago, I used to be able to top up my revolut balance from my BOI MasterCard in a matter of seconds. Now there's a change to the flow in both revolut and BOI that results in the operation going to a "Pending" state and the funds not arriving until hours later.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm guessing my bank has forced this regression?

Edit: Never mind, my BOI card had expired and Revolut was defaulting to my current account.

Maybe he had Ultra, Metal has no lounge access. If you have only small amounts then basic plan meets your needs.

My brother is the kind of person who would go for ultra. He was telling me he was getting multiples of euros in interest a few times a day with his investment/savings thing too, so I'd imagine he has a bit of money in there alright...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,883 ✭✭✭pureza

If he's getting multiples of euro's in interest a day,he'd have to have 100k or more on deposit with them,a lot more

    Go him!

Wouldn't surprise me. If only I had the work ethic or drive he has... 😕

Switch to topping up with Google/Apple Pay and in future when your card expires the new one will update on your xPay automatically

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 254 ✭✭OO7FITZY

Yes, outside EU so free currency conversion also

The lounge access is attractive and I believe all family members have access if travelling with you

If you opt for ULTRA, how does that affect other family members?

    - wife is on Revolut (individual), and kids are under my account - I assume kids come under your regardless but would I need to create joint account with wife first before upgrading and is the plan then charged as two people or one joint account?

What do you lose by turning off spare change roundup for revpoints?

From a t&cs perspective the devil really is in the detail for Revolut accounts - I seem to only get the t&cs via scrolling through my account on the phone and have to "almost" sign up to a new plan before I see a link for the fine print

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 309 ✭✭cagefactor

Incorrect. Only card member has access to lounge.

Joint account is a separate thing to users individual account (which could be ultra, metal etc).

Using spare change to buy revpoints makes no sense as will be very expensive over time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,883 ✭✭✭pureza

Only the cardholder gets free lounge access on ultra

Not every airport has a lounge available to their partner providing that access but most do

You can buy 1 guest for €24,which is about a €20 discount

Trying to transfer my Revpoints to AerClub but keep getting the message “We couldn’t find your account”.

Anyone else come across this issue?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 254 ✭✭OO7FITZY

thx - below is confusing when you read the Ts&Cs

Has anyone done a compare on car hire excess and travel insurance Vs std offering in Ireland

WW car hire excess for family is 120 euro and WW travel insurance for family is 120 euro

Annual fee for metal is 540 euro or 300 euro if you net off what I would pay anyway for the car/travel insurance each year

Still not sure what I lose out on by not turning on rounding up on rev points - if I can just accrue points based on my daily spend on a 1:1 ratio then I could build a lot of points each year and use as air miles

I could tap with my phone and wife can use card to tap so no need for 2 ultra accounts

    Hi guys.

I need to download statements from revo.Ive been using polish language on my phone(android) and was told to change to english to have statements in english.I have done that.Waited 12h and now this is strange one.

My current account statements are generating in english but Credit Cards statements are not.

CS didnt help much(delete app, cache etc) and told me to wait 10 working days for answer.

They cant post my statements either.

Does anyone have any idea how to get it sorted?

    Badly needed for mortgage application.

If you are currently using a Visa Credit card to top up your Revolut card, you want to reconsider.

As of 30 September, Revolut will now have to use a merchant code that makes it look like a cash transaction which might result in your card being declined or attract cash advance fees (Avant is already doing that).

This is also the case for usage of a Visa Card for revolut.me payments.

Good to know, thanks. It was handy to be able to do instant transfers with Google pay. I think the bank transfers aren't instant. Where did you see it announced?

You'll still be able to. There'll still be no charge when you use a debit card

Sorry replies don't seem to be working on my phone but thank you both. @bennyx_o and @Yggr of Asgard

Cheers for the heads up! Hopefully Bank of Ireland don't start charging too! I know they do already on a regular cash advance
