Great post - science has been way ahead of this fiction for many years now. I know it’s a small thing but calling masterbation a sin and placing so much guilt on a 12/13 year old as they start to go through puberty is psychological child abuse in my view

I’d say he would too - I reckon he’s a fair whiz when it comes to knowledge of the law

Getting carried out of court by your ankles makes you the opposite of a good barrister.

The system is all based on trust, at the end of the day. As we have seen with them all abusing the courts to disrupt as much as possible, there is not much a judge can do except leave the court or just send them to prison, which is not working in this case. If the judge says be quiet you need to be quiet and listen. It's not like the movies with them all shouting at each other.

Would any law firm want to take that risk? I personally wouldn't, All it would take is for you to take him on and then him make a fool of you or your firm in court and you can say goodbye to becoming that judge you always wanted.

It's not like Ryanair where any news even the bad news is good news.

You really want a barrister who demonstrates such poor judgement as to get himself in trouble with the courts to advise and represent you???? I've dealt with 50 or more lawyers during my career and no there is no way I'd put this guy in charge of the morning tea trolly, never mind a court case.

I think how ironic it is that they are mad keen to get involve in any auld law suit, but the minute they get into court they can't abide by the rules. Like someone saying "I want to play sport, but now way am I going to listen to that fukkin referee".

Even turning up at court all 'suited and booted'. Do you see the state of yer way Ami, all dressed in black. All she's missing is the wig!.

Knowledge of the law is an essential for a barrrister, but so too is advocacy. Successful advocacy requires empathy and the ability to convince others of your point of view. Nothing we have seen from any of the Burkes, including Simeon, suggests that they have any great strength in the area. Quite the opposite in fact. He made an ass of himself in the SU elections in Galway, and his public appearances since don’t suggest that he has copped on. If he follows in the family mold of aggressive confrontation every time he comes before a judge I can see why he would have extreme difficulty getting a position devilling. Who would want to be dealing with them.

It’s interesting that rather than a period of self reflection and introspection to see where the issue may lie he is on the attack, essentially accusing the Law Library of a conspiracy against him. As I said previously, Enoch, Jemima and Ammi are all pretty much unemployable at this stage, and this lad may well be on his way. A terrible waste of talent, but their profound inability to respect others and behave like adults has probably damaged them beyond repair. The Ma and Da have a lot to answer for.

All good points in fairness - the how you do things is as important if not more so than the what .

I'm delighted that poor Simeon can't find a mentor.

Maybe now he will accept there's consequences to your actions.

If he wants to stand by his outdated beliefs and act the maggot in the courts, rub it up him I say.

Called this a few weeks back, no barrister will be willing to take this idiot on with the reputation that follows him and his family around.

Anyone who calls this discrimination is deluded, this is the consequences of his and his families actions nothing more.

I went to a certain christian Bros. school (on the Long Mile road) in the 1990s. Was in 1st year (iirc) when the 3 referendums in relation to abortion were held in 1992.

One of our lay teachers at the time told the class he was voting for all 3 amendments to the constitution as the ban on abortion would be ineffective without the ban on travel or providing information in place either.

Also told us at one point that rape never results in pregnancy as 'the body shuts down due to the trauma' - FFS!

Its almost like Mammy and Daddy didn't teach their children one of the most important lessons in life….

    Actions have consequences.

“I am deeply concerned that I am receiving differing treatment to that experienced by other applicants for membership of the Law Library,” he said.

Cue > "The Bar of Ireland is discriminating against me because of my religious beliefs".

Some of us here on the thread predicted this would happen back in March 2023 when he was dragged out of the High Court.

No doubt he is angling for a "I'm being discriminated against ".

Can anyone be forced to mentor him? Is he entitled to receive a mentor by law? Or will he just have to accept that he's toxic.

Yep that's the angle. Can't figure out how to link it but they're tweeting about a Christian barrister being discriminated against.

Who would take any of these loopers on at this stage? If their firm took on a transgender client suing their neighbour over a boundary issue or something not remotely related to gender issues Simeon would end up stood outside the office for the next two years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 611 ✭✭✭feelings

Why should anyone be forced to mentor him? You'd be sure that person would challenge it. Maybe Simeon will finally learn that actions have consequences. 🙄

See mammy Burke and the clowns were at the ploughing with their usual side show of shouting at the law society and others about transgender and Gays, one guy asked them did they believe in gay people and they scurried away as quick as they could, security seemed to stand up to them.

Random thing, I can think of two Michaels who are female, just a point. A name is just a name, I once dated someone of the opposite gender with the same name as me, I thought it was funny, she didn't even notice.

Watched the ploughing championships video, because of my own grim fascination with them.

That particular tone of shrillness that Mammy Burke uses when haranguing someone or fulminating straight to the camera just instantly hits me directly in the brain each time. An awful screech that sends a shiver up my spine, like hearing cutlery being rubbed together or a child crying on a plane.

Thought she was genuinely spiteful and nasty towards the guy who was volunteering and had the misfortune of engaging with them - "You know nothing about anything."

I thought that was interesting. Typically they lambast people by telling them they should be ashamed, or that they aren't living up the abstracted ideals of the behaviour or ethics of their position - be that a judge, a principal, a guard ,or a… eh, postman…

That gives them a bit of cover in their argument. Even if they're deluded, they can still argue that there's a moral position in what they are saying. To just blatantly call someone stupid to their face, well, that's different. It's a bit more raw.

Ah, they're an awful crowd. Even the insidious way they always make a deliberate point of mentioning the other person's name on camera whenever they are "debating" something with some poor misfortunate.

But, gotta admit, that I find them incredibly entertaining.

What is the story with the comments under the vids on YouTube? Wall to wall support, nothing but praise. I cycled through them for a few seconds and nothing even remotely sane to be found there, you know, something reasonable, along the lines of - "Amni, let me rescue you from this madness(Your hair looks great)" or "You guys are the biggest bunch of tossers ever."

I know YouTube comments are always going to attract pure unfiltered headers, but it can't be legit: it's not just blanket support, it's King-size Duvet support.

I presume it's bots? Would be interested to know if anyone has more insight.

I wonder if this might be the straw that break's Simeon's back and makes him realise just how much this is **** him up? Maybe I'm being optimistic, but he's young, we were all a bit delusional at that age.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

If I was a betting man, I'd wager money that at least 1 Burke child is gay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,514 ✭✭✭BK5

As I said earlier in the thread, plenty of people on Youtube, X etc writing supportive messages and saying what wonderful people they are without even bothering to do a bit of background information or finding out some of the disgraceful things the Burkes have done over the years.

Not one of these "supporters" will ever give any of the Burkes a job for all their messages of support.

Since all barristers are sole traders/independent contractors the Bar Council can force any of their members to take him on. He can cry discrimination but he can’t force himself into the profession on that basis.
No more than Enoch’s shenanigans, this thing will roll on and on for years. It’ll probably end up in Europe….

I wonder if it years to come, in hindsight, will it lead to resentment between the siblings.

Enoch's situation will eventually be resolved, one way or the other.

But Simeon has torpedoed his career before it even started, for his brother.

The only way to force someone would be consequences.

I can't see there being a mechanism there to do that.

Something like 10% of the world identfiies as gay or bi (or something else) and they have ten kids, so…
