I personally think it's ridiculous that they are advertising next day delivery when it's taking up to 5 days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,711 ✭✭✭Nollog

It's also an EU law/directive that they can't say no to your german iban but they find ways around it with toothless regulators

For example gomo is unlimited data in roi, but 10gb in the eu.

I don't know really tho, I don't work for them or anything i just read the same website as everyone else a few days ago.

Hi, dont think that is accurate. The idea is you can call your home numbers (mobile/landlines) for free with your minutes from EU (and UK). But not other EU countries for free (call Cypus from France or even local french taxi). those are charged (at the same rate ( in most case 23c/min) as your international calls from Ireland to EU.

As per the sky tariff guide.

I doubt that even if you had an international call bundle included, those would be deemed free calls while roaming).

VM has 350min EU call bundle for a fiver. (350min@23c is 80 quid if used outside at international rates).

Haven't read their T&C, but wouldn't imagine it being commercially viable to offer if these mins can be used while roaming.. could be wrong tho..

Do MVNOs always roam on the underlying network's partners? So in this instance, would sky roam on Vodafone networks across Europe? Or would they use Sky Mobile in UK too (which is based on O2's network I believe there)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 494 ✭✭pfftdetail

Hmm, that's a good question. I assume they have the exact same roaming partnership as their parent network so in the UK you'd actually be connected to Vodafone rather than Sky Mobile as that's what Vodafone IE uses in the UK.

Their UK partner seems to be O2 - When crossing the border at the weekend the phone (on automatic network selection) connected to and stayed on O2 UK network. Previously when I was using Vodafone I always connected to Vodafone UK.

If you could get clarification on these when they call you back, that would be great. I would love it if calls to the UK were included, that would be unreal!

took 2 days but I managed to get a SIM card sent back out so we will see how that goes, I ain’t holding my breath to be honest.

When does the cooling off period start, is it when you activate the sim card?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,217 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

    Nope

    From the below link

Michael lives in Ireland and has a contract with an Irish mobile operator where he pays €0.10 a minute for calls and €0.05 for text messages within Ireland. When he goes on a business trip to Spain, Michael doesn't have to worry about paying extra for any calls to EU numbers he makes or receives.

Callers from Ireland will be charged the normal domestic rate when they call Michael. If he calls a local Spanish number, his family in Ireland or any other EU country, he will pay Irish domestic prices - €0.10 a minute - for these calls. His text messages within Spain, to Ireland or to any other EU country will cost €0.05 - just like at home.

Has anyone actually received their SIM? If so, how long did it take?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 953 ✭✭✭whosedaddy?

    i stand corrected!

you would think they start a new product that is compliant...

sky clearly states that if you are roaming in EU and you call any other EU country other than Ireland , you pay 23c , which happens to be the international calling rate from ireland. so being abroad is no more expensive calling an international number compared to calling from home.

    Screenshot_20240917-152837.jpg

    also they mention

Whilst in Europe and the UK, you will have unlimited calls and texts, to ‘phone home’. Outside of these countries, there may be a charge, please check out the Mobile Tariff Guide for more information on out of bundle charges.

    had a look at 48..

Minutes made to landlines including non-geographic numbers and mobiles within the Republic of Ireland and calls made while roaming in EU to other EU numbers and back to Republic of Ireland are subject to a limit of 5,000 minutes per monthly plan.

gomo has similar , but says they could be charged..

Minutes and texts included in the SIM Only Service can be used within Republic of Ireland and European Economic Area (“EEA”) zone countries while Roaming subject to fair usage. Voicemail, calls and texts / EEA landlines while Roaming in the EEA are treated as a standard call or text, deducted from the SIM Only Service plan allowances or charged at applicable standard rates, see our website for a full list of Charges.

    and VM spells it out

Roam Like At Home means that EU roaming is included in your plan so you can now use the inclusive minutes and texts in your plan while roaming in the EU at no extra cost. For example, if you are roaming in France you can call or text home, call or text another number in France or even another number in a third European Country just like you do at home. These calls and texts come out of your inclusive allowance and once you use up your inclusive allowance either at home or in the EU you will be charged our standard out of bundle rates.

Yes, now I will be the first to say these rules can be confusing for both us and Sky and that the likelihood of having to call another EU country other than Ireland (or the one you are in) while on holiday will be a very unlikely event. If I were a sky mobile customer I would question it

I got stung for roaming charges to the tune of about €5 when I was in the Turkish occupied part of Cyprus a few years back. When I queried it with Vodafone at the time it was refunded without question under these rules

Noticed when I switch to 3G it’s not switching back to 4G/5G like it should. There is definitely coverage but it’s taking much longer than it should to switch back. Anyone else notice this?

I've noticed this issue with MVNOs, had the same problem on 48.

Hasn't been an issue for me. At home I have 3G and 4G coverage depending on the room. It's switching between both quickly as it would have done with Vodafone.

Some more info from their support, which I'm getting very frustrated with!

Thank you for staying on hold as there is a issue regarding the query I suggest you not to keep trying for the codes as it might get blocked.

Our concerned team is working on the issue which will be solved in a few working days not to worry is there anything else you need me to help you with?

Make of that what you want. But if not fixed by Monday I'm cancelling and then re-ordering , just to get another 14 days cooling off.

Trouble is I don't see anyone else posting about this issue, but they confirmed others are also affected. So I won't know when it's fixed.

The only thing that'll restore my faith in Sky is if they have this fixed by Friday and actually inform me of same.

They told me to stop trying it so I can't even do that to check until I'm given the nod from them

Never had that problem with 48 myself but I remember 3 had issues getting stuck on 2G when they first launched.

Think I’ll be moving during the cooling off period. Upon more usage the coverage isn’t great in my area. On 3G a lot more than I was with 48 but also noticed some total black spots.

I had a similar issue, all SMS messages came through today around 1pm and it’s working now.

A few service messages still aren’t working like iMessage and PayPal so far.

I joined Sky Mobile last Tuesday, SIM came in the post on Friday. Ported from Vodafone on Saturday morning, and haven't had an issue… except for one minor niggle.

I'm on iPhone and the default iOS email app isn't working when I'm using 4G/5G data, but it works on WiFi. APN settings are correct, reloaded the profile a few times, but no. Mail won't send and receive.

I get this message: "Multiple Account Errors. The following accounts have errors: (all of them, in my case). Please select the individual accounts to see more information." (there's no information to show). As soon as I connect to WiFi, emails do flow.

All other apps and browsing work fine, so I dunno what's at play here. I phoned customer support, and they say they are escalating it.

Has this happened to anyone else?

P.S. I upgraded to iOS 18 too, no change.

I'm having connection issues as well with apps and the browser - putting it down to DNS issues that will hopefully get resolved

Same here, still no sign of a sim card in the post. Ordered last Tuesday. I'm now getting text messages from them reminding me to activate my sim card. Think they're just rubbing it in at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 62 ✭✭vapourer

Why don't you guys opt for an esim or I don't know if sky stores also give the sim card at point of sale but maybe cancel and sign up via a sky store and get the sim card at the shop when signing up? Maybe it could be that the address was taken down incorrectly as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 85 ✭✭PH0NER

I signed up with eSIM. It activated just fine last Tuesday, however, I tried to use the online button to replace it so I could move to a different phone. That failed to properly issue a new eSIM, yet it disconnected my service on the original eSIM. A few pages back I explained my horror story with customer support. It has been several days and I still do not have service and support is still completely incompetent. 4 days ago they said they'll send me a physical SIM. I expected it to arrive today, but it didn't.

eSIM is great in theory, but it relies too heavily on carriers to properly implement the necessary functions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 494 ✭✭pfftdetail

Not everyone has eSIM, eSIMs also have various problems as everyone else in this thread pointed out. They also keep removing the eSIM option on the website and over the phone. They don't offer eSIMs or SIM cards in stores just yet either, they can only order to your address.

Spoke to an agent earlier in relation to my SIM and advised I would receive tracking this evening - still haven’t recieved anything. Can anyone confirm if the sims come with tracking?

All the tracking in the MySky app says is "Delivered."
