Would anyone know if you can charter an R22 heli or C152 plane in Ireland? Google doesn't give me much, but that's not to say they don't exist…

Is it a thing where if you showed up at the local aero club and offered to cover the fuel costs, would a pilot fly you across the country?

Sure, just ask any student pilot if he needs a few hours, what could go wrong?

Seriously, chartering an aircraft for transport requires an AOC (operator's license basically). No one would bother setting one up for a 152 (used to be a few 172/182s long ago for charter with Iona) as it's a two seater. Also flying a commercial flight requires the pilot to have a CPL not a PPL (commercial license). Before anyone takes offense, being flown for hire is not a trivial matter so be aware.

I think NFC has a heli for charter, not cheap at all thought. You are also very restricted on an R22 if you weigh more than a size zero model!!!!
