How much does the Saniz/Perez incident hurt Ferrari? If any.

Delighted for Piastri, really unbelievable drive to maintain that focus for 20 odd laps!

I don't think so, would have been a 3 point difference if they'd have finished as it was prior to it. (2 for position + 1 for fastest lap)

Technically no, but I think practically yes.

Norris fucked up, he should have waited a lap to overtake Max, becuase there was 23 seconds back to Alonso. So when Norris overtook Max, he was gonna pit and take fastest lap from Norris.

Norris got 3 more points than Max. Two for position and one for fastest lap. Without the crash it might have only been 1!!

Norris needs a couple wins as I think Verstappen has just about enough of a cushion

Did sainz lock up ? On the overhead shot his car turned left.

Franco Colapinto has more F1 points than Logan Sargent over his whole F1 career

    This too shall pass.

Williams could catch Haas and VCARB

Can you decide to hold back like that in reality? I feel like you have to take the chance to overtake when it's there, in case a mistake puts you out of range next lap.

I've watched the replay a good few times and don't see how anyone came blame Sainz. Perez turned (albeit slightly) into him.

The on board showed no change in steering direction I think. I thought he went left after getting rubbed by perez.

I dint think he should have tried to overtake le clerc tbh.

Perez might have turned into sainz but sainz turned noticeably towards Perez.

They were both heading towards each other before the tyres touched and made it look like Sainz made a hard left.

His steering looked consistent to me, before the car violently got turned which I assume was the accident and not input.

From the onboard Sainz looked left and turned ever so slightly. They were very close anyway so wouldn’t have taken much. Maybe Perez did the same, haven’t seen an onboard from his car.
A bloody shame regardless for Perez, he had a rare great weekend, and also lost Red Bull a load of points against McLaren.

Shite defending from Leclerc, left the door wide open.

No Perez front wheel caught his left rear causing him to spin left.

Thought Perez was far too cautious with Leclerc, was way ahead but braked too early letting Leclerc back through, should have forced Leclerc to back out of it.

Sainz tried to squeeze Perez and both paid the price. Great drive from Piastri.

Watch the helicopter shot at around 1.25. Perez is the one who moved into Sainz.

Guess it costs Sainz 15 or 12 directly and gave Norris an extra 4 so quite costly.

There’s a performance gap to McClaren on average I think so they might struggle to win the constructors but have a really good chance to overtake Red Bull soon.

To me it looked like the cars started to fishtail as they put down the power out of the corner as near the end of the race the rears were all but gone and it was the fishtailing that caused the smack.

    This too shall pass.

I am a massive Sainz fan but looking at it honestly I think Perez turned more right than he turned left.

Great drive from Piastri!! He looks like a future champion, in the right car of course.

McLaren ahead in the constructors. The Sainz-Perez accident gives a bit of cushion too.

Sainz does move in and therefore towards Perez as his wheel is well outside the whiteline at first but he is back in by the time of the collision. He had to move to avoid the wall but he still moves in.

Looking at it again I don't think either driver turned in on the other in a significant way. The.way they came.ouy of the corner Sainz was moving slightly left and Perez to the right. Neither driver took action to avoid the obvious contact that was coming.

Will be interesting to see how the stewards deal with it, they'll have more information than just the camera views

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,836 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I wonder how f sainz wasn't getting the boot from Ferrari if he'd have pulled in behind le clerc rather than try overtake and thus compromise his own exit when it didn't work, and put perez back in position to try overtake.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,159 ✭✭✭✭klose

Max has 2 podiums in his last 7 races and IIRC there was nothing of note that happened to him other then the car not being in a good place for him, if this form continues and Norris keeps going as he is I think Norris will win the drivers championship

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,830 ✭✭✭quokula

If he’d waited and then the VSC came out he’d have scored fewer points than Max. You’ve got to take the chances when they come.

I don’t think either driver did anything egregious between Perez and Sainz, but as the driver behind it was probably more on Checo to see they were close to coming together and take evasive action.

The cost of repairs from that crash will hurt both Red Bull and Ferrari in the development race with McLaren.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭thefa

Think that’s about the whole of it. Sainz increases the gap to the wall and I think Perez is trying to keep him as tight to the wall as possible.

Have seen some people saying Sainz looked in his mirror but it’s a split second before it occurs. Think they misjudged each others movements and it was an awkward crash. Maybe they will come down on Sainz or maybe not. Small margins.

He didn't really eat enough into Max's lead in my view. You really need at least 1 race of Max not scoring to really see a fight brewing.

Mind you, I didn't think he'd catch Max today and he did.

    This too shall pass.
