No the delay is to avoid the appearance of election interference. The same judge will make the decision about immunity. It cannot get to the supreme court unless there is a gross miscarriage of justice - and it has to go through all the new York circuit courts before that could even be a possibility.

It will get sentenced in November, and I think the sentence will be at least a year in jail. There is no such thing as bail for a convicted felon so he will be taken to a holding cell.

Why would Russia take him in? He has served his purpose and would no longer be any use to them.

Not only would he not have access to state secrets if he lost, if he won he is not going to get international intelligence, I don't see any other countries, including NATO members, giving him access to anything useful, they know he is not safe. He probably would, without trying, effectively remove The US from NATO.

    I doubt it.

Trump manages to get away with the most outlandish of nonsense time and time again and has done for years now. Despite being known as an habitual liar and an actual convicted fraudster.

It's an astonishing place American politics finds itself in.

It's akin to the troublemaker in class being able to continually be disruptive because, well, he's known as the troublemaker. But if someone who's usually quiet steps out of line they're sent up to the principal's office.

Trump should be constantly fact checked on his bollocks talk because, well, most of what he says is bollocks talk and shouldn't be allowed to pollute impressionable minds. Of course, some of those "minds" are going to polluted by the choice of the owner anyway.

However it was, genuinely, a fine thing to see him get doorstepped in the debate when he blubbered out his bollocks talk about foreigners eating pets. That kind of thing should be par for the course when he comes out with his gibberish.

    Russia looks after their own.

They will have other people in the Senate and the House looking at how they treat Trump. If they cut him loose and leave him out to hang, they MiGhT just walk away.

There is also going to be a mini trial before the election on the federal insurrection charges. New evidence will be set out and the full details of the case will be outlined before election day. Just to remind everyone what happened and who was responsible.

This is a direct consequence of the supreme court immunity ruling.

I think this is a fair assessment - it has little to do with Trumps himself.

I don’t think he’ll ever see inside of a real prison cell no matter what happens.

The Supreme Court ruling won't make him immune from the hush money case because he wasn't President when he committed parts of those crimes.

Their argument is that evidence used in the trial was from the time he was President and therefore should not be allowed.

Whilst the path to the Supreme Court is extremely long and not definite, he is very much using the Supreme Court in this case, right now.

I'd say there is a more of a chance of a retrial then there is a years incarceration.

That new evidence in the Insurrection case could be the "October Surprise" we've all been waiting for.

You would have to get a new York circuit court to order a retrial - which I don't see happening.

The main point here is that there is no reason not to take him from the doc to a holding cell - only the judge could order that and I do not see any reason why he would be inclined to do that given Trumps beligerance to the trial process.

Depends on what grounds, if portions of the evidence presented to the Jury should never have been the conviction could be rendered unsafe and vacated.

I don't think that's right: the ancestors of today's Afro-Americans have been in the US for many generations more than most caucasian Americans' have. Aliens refers to immigrants. Mexicans for instance.

I'm not even sure it's meant as a slur, or at any rate, not any more than the other words such as immigrants or foreign would be.

They still mean "Not White" when they say it.

All those undocumented Irish people living in the US are "illegal aliens" too , but they aren't getting accused of eating pets nor are they claiming that Ireland (or any European country) is "emptying their prisons to send to America" and so on.

    It's Racism.. simple as that.

Don't really care what happens to Trump, all I passionately want is Harris, in the WH. Those who are riding on Trumps coat tails are far more dangerous than Trump. He is their, useful idiot.

Much speculation here about DJT running to Russia or wherever. What if he runs off to his property in Doonbeg, taking advantage of our well-known welcome to asylum seekers.🤑

Oh I'm not saying it's not racist - it obviously is. But it's (some) people in Europe who always assume that black people in America are recent immigrants and their first/second generation descendants, in the way that most black people in Europe are. Trump was referring to Haitians and other south and central Americans, not to Americans of colour. (He has other terms of insults for American blacks.)

It's just amusing how people so often project their own world view onto the USA, and fundamentally misunderstand the American context. It's the whites who are most often the recent immigrants there.

He's not going to run , if only because he has a permanent Secret Service detail who aren't going to allow him to go on the lam. They don't work for him anymore - They work for the DOJ and if they report "Trump is heading for the Airport" they'll be told to not let him leave.

Silly speculation anyway , he won't leave.

If Trump loses in November , his sentencing hearing on the 26th will become this cycles "January 6th".

He'll call for his base to come to NY to support him and they'll be outside in numbers.

If/When he gets a custodial sentence , they will kick off.

I fully expect the NY authorities to be "loaded for Bear" as they say on the day , but it will still get very ugly.

If Trump loses the election, he is basically a busted flush. He will blend into obscurity and plea bargain his way out of prison. He will no longer be a useful idiot. The opposite, it will be conclusive proof he is just a liability.

Who knows, President Harris may even pardon him. 😀

I think given the sentencing of the Jan 6th simpletons another attempted mass coup is unlikely.

Getting way ahead of ourselves though, this election is very much still a coin toss.

Harris on Day 1, Increases the SCOTUS to be a 13 person panel, fills it with decent, honourable judges to nullify Trump's ridiculous appointments and immediately ends all of Trump's legal efforts to subvert democracy in the single most consequential economic and military power in the western world.

This would require that Harris secures the POTUS and both congress and Senate elections with enough votes to pass through the reforms she absolutely needs to do to prevent Trump from stealing the election through Scotus like he's clearly planning to do.

then as a pure fantasy that would never actually happen…

I hope that Biden goes to Trump's banks on Jan 5th 2025, orders them to empty all of his bank accounts, deposits everything into a suitable charity like the ACLU or the National Immigration Law Centre.

Then claims that it was a presidential act so he's immune from prosecution, drops the mic and leaves Trump penniless and writhing in the consequences of his own actions.

That bit with the pet chow in Springfield showed how fundamentally unserious he is about this: even the guy running for dogcatcher in buttfcuk, Idaho, would know if you're going to throw in an incendiary but highly dubious anecdote like that you have to have a better citation than "I saw it on the telly!"…

13th November? That won't be Harris' first day…

Why would you think that? Trump is in complete and total control of the GOP. He will decide what he is going to do. I wouldn't be surprised if he simply repeats the last 4 years. Complains bitterly about the 2024 election being robbed. This will be done after months of wrangling over even getting the election certified.

Then straight into campaign mode and a call that he cannot be incarcerated etc due to being the No1 GOP nominee for POTUS.

All of the points you make were true in 2020, moreso after Jan 6th, and the GOP have shown themselves to be completely unable to move past Trump. Yet another loss won't change that.

I think it was Ian O Doherty on the Pat Kenny show the other day who said that Trump is obsessed with watching replays of his attempted assassination. True or no, the incident majorly rattled him and has in no small part helped ruin any focus he had.

Of course you know there are 2 Hopes of that happening Bob Hope and no hope.

Harris would not try to increase the Supreme Court. All atempts to do this have been met with a crap storm.

Biden too much mature to denegrate presidential office like that

I'm losing track of the different threads but recently it was asked where Trump praised white supremacists. Here's another example…

The above twitter thread is based on this page…

    Interesting excerpt…

“All of the people there, you’re amazing patriots,” Trump said in the video. “Have a great time at Bedminster.”

As part of his criminal case over Jan. 6, federal prosecutors described the rioter, Timothy Hale-Cusanelli, as a “white supremacist and Nazi sympathizer,” who told his coworkers at a naval weapons station that “Hitler should have finished the job” and “babies born with any deformities or disabilities should be shot in the forehead.”
