If you are electricity only i think the best non smart rate is SSE Fixed at 23.533 cent per kw. Much cheaper than your current rate

Best value is by switching to a non smart day/night meter, covered here many times already. (Assuming that you would want to charge your car at night)

All depends on which provider you're with, some will request one for you no bother at all, others make a big deal out of it, BG are terrible. Take into account the higher standing charges associated with the D/N plans and try to work out what percentage the car uses to see if you'll save money on the overall bill. If you've never had a meter change before it won't cost you anything.

If you actually switch, the retention team will be on to you sharpish with a 38% (it's gone up from 37%) offer. This happens if:

1) you actually make a switch to an alternative supplier;

2) your contact information is up to date and you've set things to allow them to contact you by phone;

3) you are not a dual-fuel customer.

If you are a dual-fuel customer with them, you will have to switch the gas away from them before they'll offer you the 38% discount on electricity.

At 38%, current rates are 25.89 day/12.41 night, including VAT.

I have 14 solar panels , Solis inverter 5kwh battery and export quite a lot to the grid , so a decent rate to sell back to the grid is important

58 KWH Ionic 5, dont do high milage but would like to avail of a low EV overnight rate , would prefer a longish window to charge overnight , min of 3 hours , as my wall charger is old and slow at 3.3 kwh (might eventually change the wall charger) On average I top up by 25 kwh a week

Have a smart meter live in Dublin

Have a time programmable DW and WM, would prefer not to time these to run overnight, and am in the habit of getting them to run , when solar output is high , ie after 11am

I am hoping to charge Solis battery at an EV rate , 6 to 8 cent per unit and export to the grid at 20 something, how will this work, if I am charging my car battery at the same time

I currently charge my car during the day , when we have sunny weather , but i reckon charge overnight a cheap rate is more cost effective

Car is rarely used during the week, so happy to leave it plugged into charge

I use Gas to heat hot water , as I see the cost to do this as cheap . Do not have an Eddi

We're not dual fuel but some points will still apply. So here goes..

We are high users at approx 14000kwh per year. At current D/N rates when our current offer ends this will be costing approx €2.5k to €2.7k per year.

There are a couple of plans we're looking at.

Energia - 4 hour "EV" window 2am to 6am. 7.54 cents. 33 cents rate for rest of the day. FIT is 24 cents.

At the current FIT rates it makes more sense to charge car, battery and use all appliances between 2 to 6 @ 7.54 cents and export solar as much as possible @ 24cents. We run all appliances during night rate at the moment anyway so moving them to that time window is straightforward.

Our setup will have a 10kwh battery which will charge between 2 and 6 and it will power the house the for the rest of the day. Looking at historical usage that should cover about 95% of our day usage.

Pinergy have a cheaper EV charging window between 2 and 6 but it's a 2 year contract and is a level pay plan. Your first few bills will be high but would probably work out a bit cheaper in the end.

Rambling a bit but that's the plan. Between feed in tariff and load shifting we'd hope to save between 1500 and 1800 annually.

Won't you need to request a meter change to avail of the EV plans you mentioned? I don't think the smart D/N meter can do those plans.

We got a new RM108 smart meter recently..not activated yet but Smart plans showing as available now. Data showing up on ESB network account too.

Btw If anyone is trying to get their meter changed to a smart meter. The time was wrong on our old day night meter. Reported on a Friday to ESB networks. Meter changed on Monday to new RM108 smart D/N meter.

Still waiting on a response as to whether they'll refund us due to incorrect time on meter but I won't hold my breath 🤣

Yeah, don't really expect anything though they have process. Sent off an email anyway.

Conservatively maybe 10000 to 12000kwh billed at day rate instead of night. Meter was out by 4 to 5 hours depending on daylight savings time.

The time on the meter was slow so the cheap night rate wasn't starting until 3 or 4am. It was a digital non smart meter and I used to take a few pics of the readings if I was in a rush and submit them later. Just noticed one day that the time on the meter was wrong. Definitely hadn't taken a pic at 4am 🤣. Meter had been out for a few years from looking at old pics.

We run everything on night rate from around 12am. Immersion, washing drying etc.

No one in house during the day so we didn't really benefit from having the cheap rates then.
