Would this leave any time for Gaelic football to be played though?

I'm joking of course, literally none of us in Kilkenny give a rats ass about football.

Now is the time to form a new a club in that area. Population is increasing and now is the time to develop it.

Thanks for reply’s. I get why at first one would say no and yes I don’t think it should be every year maybe every fifth year.so tullogher went up last year and are absolutely flying it. Arguably there was nothing between Tullogher, Freahford and Windgap last two years. Everyone knows how hard it is to get out of junior and any team that goes down it takes a long time to get back out. I reckon if the likes of carrick shock or conaghy had to play the losers of junior final they would be in trouble. Maybe that would be an interesting way of doing it. Obviously intermediate clubs are going to hate this but they are getting to stay intermediate and play at a higher level when the teams coming up could potentially flourish in intermediate like Tullogher

They gave them on the KCLR podcast today, Ballyhale/ Village is in Callan on Sunday at 4, think the other 3 are Saturday but can't remember the times. Glenmore/ Comer is in Kells Road, Boro/ Ballycallan in Freshford and Bennettsbridge/ Clara in Thomastown.

There’s a lot of ifs in your suggested changes every team that wins a grade in Kilkenny usually gets a run in Leinster and goes close to winning an all Ireland and tend to get a savage bounce for 18 months to a year as the team get to stay together train longer and there panel and community and more together and there’s greater buy in from everyone as well as the added fitness benefits

That’s why the likes of thomastown and tullougher are flying and look better than other teams

They usually comfortably stay up in the new grade the first few years and go deep in the championship but then there’s a drop off after that and they find there level

It’s very rare you see and team go up and come straight back down anymore

Every team is in there grade on merit you can’t just put a team up because you think they might beat a team at the bottom of the higher grade

If the likes of freshford or windgap want to be in intermediate they have to get to a final and win it

when the building boom was up in the Village with Loughboy and later on behind smith lands and the Waterford road area, things were brilliant, not a peep out of ye. O’loughlins then expanded in the two thousands all around the Johnswell road area and beyond again not a peep. Oh ye but when it starts happening at the Boro side of town we had better do something to stop it. Don’t forget St. Mary’s parish is totally enclosed.

That’s a brutal comment coming from a hurling man. Cut off that left hand you don’t deserve to have it anymore 😀.

Think yourself and Marrooned should take on that job. Sure it would be no bother .Ye would do it better than anyone else.

Thanks for engaging Mr bond. Thomastown were a team stuck in intermediate and couldn’t get out for years also. They would have been capable of hurling senior last couple of years. I would agree there is a bounce but ya need to have hurlers coming through to bed in at a higher level.

Blacks and whites got out scraped of junior (hit form at right time) but didn’t have the population of hurlers coming through.

But if you do have a few you will stay up for years as only one will drop even if there is better teams in junior.

Well IMO the top teams in junior are more than capable of mixing with the intermediates but it’s just an opinion and the way the gaa works I doubt things will change anyway.

what we have we hold.anyway someone suggested a while back that anything past the ring road goes back to the country clubs ie ballycallan,Tullaroan and threecastles, in the Boro area. Ballycallan,Danesfort and Bennettsbridge in the village area and in O’loughlins Muckalee, and Conahy and maybe bits of Clara. How does that grab you “never bet”.

Now I’ll probably be ate again but sure here it goes.I was out in Danesfort last night for the U14 Boro v Loughs, no charge on the gate. I really think there should be, if not for the host club well then the two participants? I’m just of the opinion there shouldn’t be no free entry like we got great entertainment there for over an hour last night. This is just an opinion.

    Charge for Juvenile matches ??

    No way.

Shur its usually only parents of players that go to them - Usually.

Why charge parents , when they have to drive the kid to the game, wait in the car while changing , warm ups, watch the game, wait for them to get changed and then drive home.

Up to 3 hours of the evening gone..

Well spurs that’s the other side of it, as I said it’s just an opinion but there was a lot more than parents there last night.Maybe just charge for the finals then. Do you think many parents would object, they could spend money on worse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,293 ✭✭✭Marrooned

By the way I was one of those parents and that wouldn’t change my mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,150 ✭✭✭Ceist_Beag

No way should we be charging anyone for juvenile games other than the finals. We need to encourage people to come watch those games, not discourage them. They are the potential volunteers of the future.

Most finals have an entrance fee … even at underage?

All the lgfa finals at underage , usually played in Dunmore, have €5 fee.

May be mad but I give the Village a decent chance against Shamrocks even though they were truly trounced last year.

There may be doubts about Eoin Cody starting. Adrian Mullen hasn't played for over 4 weeks. Paddy Mullen has very little hurling done nor has Joey Holden.

Glenmore may be missing Eoin Murphy. They should still have enough to beat Comer but these relegation playoffs can be very nervy affairs

I've seen both the Village and Shamrocks a few times now and I'd be giving a slight nod to the Village. Just think they were in the tougher group and these games will stand to them. Just feel the Shamrocks are getting lads back a lot later than usual and some are not at 100%.

As previous poster mentioned, Shamrocks will probably make a fool out of me yet. Should be a good game

We ll have to agree to disagree 🤣

I think the current system works fine admitedly one of the intermediate groups was lobsided but there other group was very entertaining everyone beat everyone apart from lisdowney

Blacks and whites have been hit with injuries and immigration similarly to c shock last year but last year they were flying most smaller clubs have a different deck of cards to play with every year

Each year should be taken on its own merits I don’t think any team in any grade right now is lucky to be in the grade there there because they deserve to be there

Whether they be a big club or a small club yes some clubs might be junior and view themselves as an intermediate club but it’s up to them to get up to a higher level

I think two up and two down from intermediate to junior would lead to a bigger turnover of players and set smaller clubs back

The intermediate and junior championships are the most competitive every year when compared with the senior championship imo

Walsh cup gone? This only demeans the league. I for one loved the Walsh cup competition and looked forward to the first day out after the Christmas picking out contenders to make it onto the team. When are they going to blood players now if relegation is a real threat in the league.

Only gone for certain for 1 year, will be assessed then at the end of the season, I'd imagine the intercounty challenge game circuit will replace it, 3rd level competitions and conclusion of the All Ireland Club Championships will be the competitive action in January. There was already some cases where teams were prioritising challenge games, I think last year Meath footballers played Longford in a O'Byrne Cup semi final on a Friday evening and Galway in a challenge game the day after, they played their 1st team against Galway and a 2nd/3rd team in the O'Byrne Cup.

ye Billy but what’s the purpose, usually they change what they shouldn’t change and don’t change what they should.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,318 ✭✭✭blackcard

I think the Village scored 1-21 against Glenmore and 1-20 against Tullaroan in their last 2 matches. Glenmore had plenty to play for. It definitely would not shock me if the Village won

Apologies, only seeing this now, sorry to drag it up again.
The 2 lads have assisted clubs in previous years. Harney - Dunhill, Kirwan - Clonea. Both wanted to assist Clonea this year. As you point out the board had made it clear last year that it would not be permitted this year. Last year was considered an exception as the new club was formed late in the day and would have left Dunhill in an even worse position than they ended up finding themselves.

Both could probably have gotten transfers through to Clonea I would imagine, but never went this route.

I actually think the board did well to hold their ground on this one in the face of a fair bit of public pressure. The new club had to be backed IMO or it will never get off the ground.

GPA have pushed for this for a good few years, January between 3rd level competitions and pre season competitions was the busiest month of the year for the players overlapping in both.

I can see both sides lads just want to play at the highest level possible

And the county board have to promote the new club and abide by the rules and regulations from Croke park

I suppose it’s just a messy situation for everyone
