The live bus location is available in Google Maps now.

    Looks good

    Screenshot_20240124-141709.png

Even shows the locations of all busses for each route due to serve a stop!

The issue of services showing their full duty for the day rather than just the route map for that particular service is still present however.

Dublin Bus tracking down most of the day again, Go Ahead working grand. Any reason one company can manage to keep theirs working whilst other company can't? very frustrating that it takes so long to sort it out too.

It's not showing for me. Are you on Android or iPhone, or other?..

Get the transit app, it was working prefect on this while it was down on TFI app

    No it wasn’t unfortunately.

It was Dublin Bus’ own live tracking that was down for most of Monday.

All of the apps (including Transit) were consequently displaying scheduled times for most of the day rather than live data until Dublin Bus did a reboot of their system in the early evening.

Ah right, that's weird I swore it was working for me obviously not 🤦

Dublin Bus live vehicle tracking not working all day. Vehicles are appearing on bustimes map, but not assigned to routes so fairly pointless. Go Ahead working fine as usual.

This seems to happen at least once a month, which is fairly shoddy.

Can't understand how if this app is both inclusive and independent of each transport provider why an integration for so called bus connects isn't being used across the board.

Surely that's what an app like this should be being used for, I myself miss countless Luas from broombridge every month due to the 40e running late with it being the shuttle bus service for the Luas it's incredibly frustrating that the service isn't synchronised more efficiently.

Why is it that Dublin Express gets the perk of appearing on the TFI app yet refuse to accept the TFI Leap Card on its services?

Is it possible to embed any of these live timing sources into a website.

When I am leaving the apartment to go to work I have to make a decision which of three ways to walk based on two bus stops and a luas stop. I have an old Android tablet lying around, and I'd love put it in display mode, stick it on the wall with the live timing for those three stops, plus maybe the weather and my calendar on it.

Not directly answering the question, but perhaps use the Transit App on your phone just as you are leaving, it should show you which option is fastest.

Why wouldn’t they, very different things.

Ideally the TFI app should include every type of transport service, PSO or commercial and also things like rental bikes, etc. The app should primarily be about getting you from a to b in the quickest way possible.

Of course it should also tell you the cost of the journey and if Leap is accepted or not. And perhaps a filter option to not show non leap options.

The old app used to show the journey cost, but they stupidly dropped that from the new app, which is very annoying.

Ideally if you were at Dublin Airport it would show you multiple options with the journey and cost:

    • Dublin Express fastest, but €8
    • 16/41 slower, but €2

Empower people with all the info to make an informed decision.

Their services are shown top of the list before DB services. Why should they get top billing on TFIs app and not be party to TFIs leap card?? It's annoying and disingenuous from a consumer pov

That entirely depends on what settings you use.

    The default is the fastest.

You need to go into the settings on the journey planner tab and play around with the “advanced options” as you see fit.

You can set it for example to make Dublin Bus the preferred operator.

Can't see how to do this at all so I'm just going to go with Google maps and actually have a hope of finding a non Dublin Express service.

Go onto the Journey Planner tab and to the right of the “from” and “to” boxes click on the settings icon (the top one).

Then click on “advanced options” and then change them as you see fit.

As for getting to the airport from town, it’s either the 16 or 41.

Stop by stop timetables for all routes are on www.bustimes.org:

Was down again this morning, both Go Ahead & Dublin Bus. Ended up getting soaked at the stop waiting on a phantom 13 for 20 mins (usually check its location on bustimes to see if its actually running and head off to L54 stop if it isn't!) before paying €10 on freenow to taxi to the Luas. Great service as usual from TFI/DB or whoever is refusing responsibility for the RTPI feeds this week.

If they're updating, can they at least not do it on a pissing rain weekday morning? do it on a weekend when it causes less impact? too sensible for public transport in Ireland I know!

Is there a reason why some bus stops are not showing all buses (those operating) where as the TFI app does?

Absolute chaos on Sowrds road this evening with DCU students Christmas Day. Within 20 mins, there was 1, 44, 13, 11 all cancelled, just took 6 other buses before one would stop. It was mostly 41/16 and as they serve the airport they are always well loaded.

Never had this many cancellations together.

There was an app update the last day and they had the servers down for maintenance just before it, and it seems to be gone to shite again.

A journey I take occasionally in which I know the bus leg meets up with a train service that runs every 10 minutes or so in the mornings is now showing the only train connection is before 7am or after 9am and tries to get you to take a bunch of convoluted bus trips to get to the final destination that's less than a 10 minute ride on the train.

If you remove the bus leg from the planner it only then shows all the trains available from the connection point.

Check the minimum connection time and that it is set to use “all operators” in the advanced settings (via the cog wheel beside the “from” box on the journey planner).

Just tried it there, and all other variables, and it's still not suggesting the journey which I'm about to take which involves a train changeover (which is just a 6 minute trip), it's still all bus transfers. It's nearly 9 now by the time the train pops up as an option.

It definitely gave me the better options pre app and server updates.
