Hopefully WFH will continue but I know of one Department that is officiallly 2 days in the office and are pushing for new staff to come into the office 5 days a weeks for the foreseeable, no questions asked.

Would you mind saying what department this is?

Dont quote me, but I believe that Social Welfare ask staff to come to the office 5 days per week while on probation.

My own opinion on this is to not assume that you will be WFH. I would hope for 2 days WFH and anything more is a bonus.

This is true. Although it depends on the section and if the work can be done at home. I know of 2 different people with 2 different managers in the same office. One got wfh straight away and the other had to wait until they had 9 months done

correct if you are Intreo front office based .

How did everyone find the psychometric tests?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,335 ✭✭✭✭shmeee

Heard of a mobility offer for DSP, Intreo customer facing office and it's 5 days in the office for 12 months (training) and then potential WFH but would be very limited.

One department that could have trouble filing positions. Of course mobility offer was turned down by this individual. A one day per week commute is better!

I worked in DSP in a non-customer facing role and this was roughly my experience. WFH, after 12 months, was 1 day a week.

Are the DSP still stuck in the stone age with systems that they can't have more WFH options if not in a customer facing position?

Hello all, I did they tests in 2022 and was called for interview approx a month ago. I'm currently doing the pre-employment checks through Public Jobs. They want to contact my current employer (private sector) for reference, but I haven't even been offered a job or anything yet. I'm no 3 in my county panel for EO. Is this the norm that you have to get a reference from your current employer eventhough there's no job offer, don't know what department, when it might arise? I'm at odds as to whether to disclose yet to current job, because being on panel doesn't mean there will be a job. Can anyone advise me please, I'm not in public sector so don't understand the ins and outs.

PAS only reach out to your employer for a reference when there is a position for you. Once all checks are done you will be assigned your department.

Thanks @furrybones but I'm dealing with the Clearance crowd and they are saying that they have to contact my current employer and have that in place even before a job offer. It sounds wrong to me, but I've been backwards and forwards with them for the last week and this is what they keep saying to me. If I had an acutal offer I wouldn't mind, but they are insisting that the clearance has to be done first. Makes no sense. Like if I tell current employer and then nothing transpires, not only do I look like a twat I've put the nail in my coffin here. I'm quite frustrated by it because its a great opportunity and don't want to miss out on it, but don't want to shoot myself in the foot either.

If they are contacting your employer there is a position there for you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭MaryKaye79

you will have to provide details of a referee in order to pass through clearance

a colleague of mine had to provide details of a referee within the previous 12 months but she was a stay at home mum, she explained this to pas who told her no job, no reference over the phone (I was surprised to hear that). She eventually got it sorted thankfully

    Thanks @Guffy

I assume there is a position but nothing offered as of yet. I’m just taken aback because am I to say to current employer whom been with for years that I’m leaving but don’t know when or where I’m going. I’m going to email again tomorrow and try and see if there’s definitely an offer coming.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 annbkeane

thanks for the reply @MaryKaye79 I have given referee details that’s not a problem it’s the fact they want to contact my current employer but I haven’t been offered a job yet. I’m just flabbergasted by it to be honest. Maybe an offer will come this week and if it did then no problem. But the chap who has been replying to me has said they need to reference first. Was just wondering if this was what others had experienced.

there won’t be any official offer until you have passed clearance - you could ask what position you’re under consideration for I.e what department, they might be able to tell you that informally

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 annbkeane

Thanks @Pamelabeasley . I'm new to all this and find it so bizzare that I wouldn't know what/if I'm being offered a position, where, when etc. Obviously very different to the private sector. I've been trying to get talking to someone, but its quite difficult, the email replies I'm getting are just saying I need to do this in order to proceed, but they don't have any details of job offer. Thanks for your reply.

I persume you've sent an email to

    largevolumerecruitment5@publicjobs.ie

    About the current OOM?

Is it a county outside of Dublin? If so, unlikely an interview at this stage, unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 AidanBol

I had my interview last July and got results start of August '23, placed 3 OOM. Only in the last few weeks did I get an expression of interest for a position in Waterford. Only for the panel being extended until 27th Sept I'd still be waiting and hoping on the next competition

How long is the panel active for ? I placed 2nd after the interview about 2 months ago. I thought after placing so high I would have been offered a position by now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 AidanBol

Panel expires 27th September 2024, was extended from 30th June 2024

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 kateireland111

Hi, has anyone thats been interviewed recently been advised if they will keep taking off the panel on expiry? Panel expiring at the end of the month so seems like a tight turn around…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,335 ✭✭✭✭shmeee

No, once 27th September hits and you're not offered a job, that's the end of the line. People who have been interviewed in last few weeks were informed of this.

Thanks. Did EO 6 years ago but stepped back a grade as we moved to the far side of the country. Will be glad to be back to it , though it's only an extra €1000 a year for now.
