making electric gate smart -Remootio and alternatives

Has anyone here updated their electric gate to make them smart? It seems Remootio is the leader (well on google anyway) it connects via an app with wifi & bluetooth https://www.remootio.com/

Looks intertesting, did you run with that. Had a phone based system, but you need to remember to top up the SIM cards every 6 months and unless you depend on it, easy to forget
