Was about 30 minutes away from home today at a pitch. We were lashed on , really windy beside the sea. Got home , they'd got no rain at all just windy, great drying, we won 7-2

Yeah - its been a right horror show. especcially in the North and West. I can count on one hand the number of dry days had since the end of May in North Mayo. At least in the East it has been alot drier but there too the lack of any summer temps and even averge sunshine has really crimped grass growth etc. 😔

Wind at the moment is originating from north Canada. Funny winds this year, for some reason. We could do with the old reliable south westerlies.

Called up to Caron in the Burren today.
there was a furnace fest at the caherconnell ring fort. It was only ok- could have been spread out a bit better. One blacksmith was making arrow heads.

The sheepdog demonstrations was great as usual though. Popped over to poulnabrone dolmen.

It’s been a horrible year weather wise. Getting anything done out on land has been a struggle.

Good bit of our place is heavy ground and I’m sick of trudging through it.

Have a digger in and we raised a nice bit of stone I was going to dump in a gap that needs it but I couldn’t cross the field with a half trailer load of stone as ground is too bad, in fcuking august !! Working in trenches laying pipes after the digger has been heavy sticky mucky going.

THe dark mornings came in very quickly this year. Youngest back to school today, back to the same routine. Horrible day to bring them back , full week of it and it's still only August

Some secondary schools were back last Wednesday.

Totally agree, school shouldn't start back until September, it takes the good out of August.

that’s old news in that they have been issuing proceeding for past year. Has there been a development by the judge in the case to allow them to proceed?

The only way youd move stone across a field around here at the minute would be to carry it a handful at a time. Cant even get in to move a creep feeder.

The fees for secondary school this year are 150, doesn't have to be paid in one go but is to be paid before they go back or they wont get their books , locker, etc. We were getting a good few texts the last while about it. Young lad said alot didn't get their books yesterday. Just wondering what is a fair system in this scenario. It's not the kids fault if money isn't paid.

Who's providing the books, the school or the government. It's the school should be called out for shaming the kids.

Talking to oil man and he said over the last year he never seen so many people only put in a few hundred into their tanks. He reckoned people don't have the money

It amazes me to this day how we're absolutely swimming in money as a country yet so many are struggling. In the last 5 years the spend by government is gone from 70bn to 105bn or something like that. And what has it been spent on? What is there to show for all that extra spend? I'm not seeing it in any obvious way at least.

BTW, this isn't a go at government. An awful lot of people or pissing money away on lots of shite day in and day out. Be that subscriptions to stuff, fancy clothes, phones, etc. And the same people whinge about a bag of carrots for 50c. My sympathy levels for many is quiet low.

In the case of the school fees it's to cover locker, insurance, journal etc. It could have been paid weekly etc over the summer. 10 euro a week, less than the cost of 2 pints.

Whelan, you might get two pints for a tenner now.

Govt spending seems to go more on management jobs with frontline work (especially in the HSE) being outsourced to contracting companies - at an additional cost of course!

14 billion on debt/intrest repayments yearly, 223 billion owed of latest figures…

If the Irish goverment ever got into a position of having to pay 4 plus % on the above it would be game over, unless the corporation tax take keeps growing to match spending

Very valid, how much notice were parents given for the exact price

Got a text at the start of the holidays, so 3 months. The uniform shop also said people are only buying 1 set , no spares this year. The uniform wouldnt be overly expensive, only crested jumper, rest could be bought anywhere. It's across the board all schools.

Have a friend driving an oil truck here, says the same, bmw and Mercedes parked outside but only €200-250 into the tank.

Kids started back today, the youngest into senior infants, her teacher is pregnant and young one is giving out that she's not having a gender reveal party. Yanks on YouTube have a lot to answer for!

Spent a few days on holiday in the country. restaurants were noticeably quieter than the exact same days last year, and the spell of weather we had this year was noticeably better. And I don't believe the VAT rate from 9% to 13% is the reason. €4 on top of a €100 bill is stopping no one. People just don't have the money

are kids in doing more days in school these days to be going back earlier than before?

Think of the increase in many things in the last 5 years and thats probably less of an actual spend than 5 years ago, or not a significant increase anyway… Costs of existing is just banannas
